Blind Item #17

This former A list singer who has not had a hit in awhile but still has really good name recognition had a bunch of people from the cult out and about at a concert this weekend convincing people to give their contact information for a fan club for the singer. Nope. All those people can expect constant phone calls and e-mails now.

    2. 'fan club' made me laugh. Is this 1991? Can they sign my copy of 'TigerBeat' magazine!?!? Sounds like Scientology....they are always decades behind the times. #TweetUsCult :P
Hate to say it but I think its: Beck.

  4. I was thinking Beck too. He's the only Scio singer I can think of. I love him, but dang why is he in the cult??

  8. But Beck did not have a show in the last week from what I can tell... Although he is always my go-to in weird Scio singer BS

  9. Beck is amazingly talented so I can ignore the fact he's a scientologist, just as long as he doesn't enforce his beliefs. His new stuff is brilliant.

  10. I'm not seeing Beck having a concert this past weekend. Most people are too lazy for cults nowadays, all the meetings, the fees, etc. They should really stake out gyms, now there's folks with energy and the ability to stick to a regimen.

  11. Beck was at All Points East festival in London on Sunday.

A festival atmosphere would lend itself to that activity, I'd think.

But.... I guess it could be a different cult? What other ones are there?

  16. Beck was here 2 weeks ago. He did a few dinner/interviews with fans and radio personalities. Now it makes sense.

  17. It's sure as shit not the Mellow Gold or Odelay years but I thought his last one actually had a hit or two because he specifically went for it; "Dreams" had a very bizarre moment where people were paying attention to it. Beyond that, I don't know if he'd be credited as a "singer" since he does play instruments. Not that his Scientology-since-birth scenario isn't still weird as shit, but I just don't think this one's him.

Was whatever cult there actually affiliated with who they were bilking for contact information, or were they just preying on a captive audience as an unrelated scam. Was the singer even aware it was happening? Also, the gender's never mentioned, so don't get boxed in thinking it's a guy.

  18. Beck was raised in $cientology and then his Scio girlfriend got knocked up, they got married and now he's stuck.

It would be lovely if he could shake that shit.

  19. Whatever Beck album begins with "The Golden Age" is one of the best albums of the 21st Century. Can't remember which one that is. Like them all, but that one's the keeper of all keepers.

    I didn't even know he was a $cio. Wish I still didn't know.

    1. @Ddonna,
That's "Sea Change". Total knockout, amazing album.

    2. Yep. Brilliant.

    3. Sea Change is exceptional. One that I listen to the whole way through (not skipping around like I usually do). The Scio shit is weird with him, especially considering some of the lyrics/ stories in his songs.

  20. Diane Kruger is preggo, so i am expecting a blind tomorrow that Reedus is not the real baby daddy! Keeping my fingers crossed!

  21. Unless Beck is using Scientology to cover crimes and misdeeds, I do not give a chicken-fried cluck what his religion is.

  22. Someone needs to sit Beck down and make him watch every single episode of Leah Reminis Scientology show. No one with two brain cells to rub together could watch that expose and stay with that horrible, creepy cult.

  23. Beck came to mind. He's in that cult with Tommy Girl. That is one scary cult. They have a tv channel now, which is frightening. They bullied the IRS and won. Yikes.

  24. I seem to remember a blind recently, somebody commented that Giovanni Ribisi (Beck's brother in law) was hardcore trying to recruit someone, or was being used to recruit someone. I wish I could remember the blind, but.... yeah, Beck's in for life.
I don't judge people on their religion, but cults are a different thing. And the anti-gay stance is disappointing. *sigh*
