At a recent comic con, this permanent A+ list celebrity/writer/creator was basically signing an X in lieu of his name and also disappointing hundreds of fans by leaving early or not able to make it to his assigned time at all. The thing is though, his handlers are trying to make as much cash from him as they can before he passes so keep trotting him out to these events.

Unfortunately this gets to be the case with the elderly, they lose their reality, but can be lucid at times, meanwhile people they thought could be trusted to handle their affairs are robbing them blind. It happened a little bit to an aunt of mine when she was 90. But the person who did it was eventually found out.
ReplyDeleteThe original X-man
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, he cancelled on the con I went to at the end of March. So, he's not making all his appearances.
ReplyDeleteYou guys, he is getting old. Give him a break. Isnt it enough he gave all those characters already. He should be at home resting and with his family. Poor guy :(
ReplyDeleteI didn't mean to sound bitter about him cancelling. Dude needs to watch his health and being around thousands of people isn't a good way to do that.
ReplyDeleteyeah i agree.
DeleteSo Stan Lee, the creator of Black Panther, is accused of sexual assault.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the woke thing to do??
Doesn't living a long life look great! I think I'm going to buy a pack of cigarettes and start smoking.
ReplyDeleteLiving to your Nineties is a punishment not an accomplishment.
ReplyDeleteSometimes Braysin. My neighbors are very active 90 year olds. They walk several miles a day and volunteer at the library. You can do it!!!
DeleteThere was a story in last Sunday's NY Times about all the controversy and issues surrounding Stan and his handlers. The story made it sound like his daughter and manager have their claws in him, and have gotten rid of everyone he had working for him for years to lock down their hold.

ReplyDeleteJerry Pournelle. Famous sci-fi writer among other things, 84 yeas old, went to a sci-fi con last winter, caught a bad flu. and died.

ReplyDeleteHis massage therapist is suing because he apparently harassed her during a session He's senile enough to have done it, but her description of the incident makes him sound uncommonly spry physically for someone his age.
ReplyDelete@SD you're only proving my point, having to walk several miles a day as a senior, I'd rather go for a drive in the garage with the door closed lol
ReplyDeleteBut yeah there are some seniors who won the genetic lottery, it's better when your significant other is still alive. It would be funny if they spent their entire marriage waiting for the other one to die because they didn't believe in divorce.
sucks being old. everything hurts, the plumbing goes south, and your brain flickers all the time, at least you're only occasionally aware of that, that's a blessing.
ReplyDeleteHe's old cut him some slack ..lucky he could even be there
ReplyDeleteLooks like the commenters here missed the elder abuse story: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/features/stan-lee-needs-a-hero-elder-abuse-claims-a-battle-aging-marvel-creator-1101229
ReplyDeleteHis "handlers" aren't just squeezing blood from a stone. They're literally abusing the poor man.
Textbook financial elder abuse (there are 6 different kinds of elder abuse)
ReplyDeletePeople over 85% have greater than 50% rates of dementia (and if you look at the oldest old living in facilities that rate can jump to 80% or more, the new Green House Project homes have 85% dementia rates in their residents)
Family & anyone in geographic proximity (caregivers, neighbors, etc) are the usual most likely suspects. And when it rises to the level of criminality it is rarely prosecuted.
I do hope this lawsuit Stan Lee has filed against Olivarez (PR dude who took a vial of Stan Lee blood & mixed into comic book ink to make limited edition comic books) makes the judge in the case sua sponte (Latin for on his or her own initiative) AUDIT those books & figure out which of the flunkies, lackeys, minions & relatives of Stan Lee (if any) have his best interests at heart & is capable of helping Stan finish out the end of his life in a fashion Stan would have wanted to. Stan may need a guardian of some kind & my take is ZERO of the people currently around him is fit to do that job.
