No one could even figure out why this foreign born former A+ list singer was at a party in the desert. She crashed it. No one was going to kick her out, but it was the most random thing ever. Apparently she wanted selfies with everyone there who is famous now. Trying to appeal to a younger audience? Trying to find a producer who will do what her ex did and let her take the credit for what he did?
Shania Twain

Shania Twain
Another performer who wants us to care about her politics.
ReplyDeleteI really laughed at that Nicki Minaj guess though
ReplyDeleteSomeone guessed Nicki for this? Interesting.
ReplyDeleteSHania was chillin with Nicki and her crew, now that is RANDOM
That don't impress me much
ReplyDeleteComing out as a Trump supporter surprised no one. Her grovelling apology on Twitter for coming out as a Trump supporter is what's done for her. She could have carved out a nice career for herself in the red states, get herself an NRA membership and buy a MAGA hat. Trump followers are loyal and because most of showbiz hates them they're vastly underserved. But no, instead she's decided to listen to her publicist and issue an apology that liberals won't accept because they don't believe her and conservatives will hate because why the fuck would someone be apologizing for views shared by half the country? What an idiot.
ReplyDeleteOne half of the country? Oookay ..
DeleteI agree...if you want to throw your support to a party/politician, so be it - you know there will be disagreement, but walking it back makes you look phony.
ReplyDeleteSo, you're only allowed to attend live music if you're younger?
ReplyDeleteInteresting.
She was also on last week's RuPaul's Drag Race episode. Making the rounds.
ReplyDeleteNever apologize. Makes it worse.
ReplyDeleteShe was only looking for attention with Trump comment, and she got it, mission accomplished.
ReplyDeletemutt lange
ReplyDelete@Simon, exactly. Never apologize. It only makes them smell blood in the water. No one ever said, "Let's get that horrible guy fired -- oh wait, he apologized? Never mind then, give him a second chance."
ReplyDeleteIf you wade into the political arena, there is no backing away. She just destroyed her comeback, most likely.
ReplyDelete@ Vessimede
ReplyDeleteBecause it's not half the country supporting Trump and the Reich which is why Twain changed her tune. There aren't enough Trumpies to foster a career much less a come back. If they had that kind of power, through numbers or spending power, Scott Baio would be the lead of a new TV show and Ted Nugent would be in the current top ten.
Why is the Canadian Twain commenting on US politics in the first place?
Another crazy Canadian. Just smoke some dope with Snoop and everything will be alright.
ReplyDeleteShe's a Canadian, and lives in a castle in Switzerland. Doubtful she even votes.
ReplyDeleteShe did an ep of Broad City too, which was just random. She seems to be trying to get in with the kids.
The Broad City appearance was because of a running joke for multiple seasons where Abby's go-to lie was that she met Shania Twain, so they finally had them meet for real.
DeleteIf you are an entertainer with broad popular support, the quickest way to make your appeal more selective is to talk politics.
ReplyDeleteAnd if you do go public with your political beliefs, don't whine about your First Amendment rights when your former fans try to take away your career. That amendment is meant to protect you from government interference only. It says nothing about employers or fans or customers. They can do whatever they damn well please about how they feel about your political stance.
With that kind of lifetime earnings, I would just go away. Maybe write for other people. Kauai would be nice. Some people just gotta be seen I guess.
ReplyDeleteBut the real question is who's bed have her boots been under
ReplyDeleteI don 't see liberals garnering an audience either - even though all tv is filled with them.
ReplyDeleteI am in agreement she should have stuck to her original opinion and come across as sincere. Having said that and off topic, Shania had an unbelievable upbringing, literally dirt poor, domestic abuse, and then her parents were both killed when she was still a teen. She was left to support her younger siblings. Its unfortunate she didn't stand by her original comments because she must be made of some tough mettle to overcome what she has in life.
ReplyDeleteWhat I am not understanding is the taking credit part?
@plot We Canadians have a LOT of opinions about American politics. Every time you guys fuck up, there are consequences to us.
ReplyDeleteAs to Shania, meh. She's been away from the scene for a long time and knows that publicity makes the world go around. So what?
She took off a decade and a half to do whatever, lost her producer/husband in the process, and now she has no career. Her album came out at number one but dropped to 29 the next week and has only sold about 222,000 copies in the US. That's not chicken feed in today's market, but a far cry from when she was the hottest thing around.
ReplyDeleteSo now she's trying to create some noise to re-energize her career and remind people she's touring.
Good luck.
@BestMan
ReplyDelete"That means, in language that maybe you'd understand, that the Democrats don't offer anything for anybody but a bunch of Lie"
That may be in your language, that defies logic and simple rhetoric.
@Cee Kay
I get that but it seemed unnecessary for Shania to venture so deeply in a huge fissure in US politics at this time. It may have been an off hand comment. Maybe she is saying anything at this point for attention. But you have to admit it's weird as hell.
The simplest way to handle such a question would be to not answer it at all by saying something like “sorry, i dont keep up with US politics, so i cant offer an opinion”
ReplyDeleteThe fact that she didnt do the simplest, smartest thing indicates to me that it was a stunt. Free publicity is the best publicity. How else could she possibly get to trend on twitter?
She was an idiot for commenting on American politics. She could have easily sidestepped that with "I'm a Canadian and can't vote, so my opinion does not count." Heck even if she was an American she should have said:"Voting is a private matter."
ReplyDeleteHere's a music exercise, for those so inclined: Look at the sales success for records of acts that mutt lange produced: before mutt, during and after him. Notice a pattern? Yeah.
ReplyDeleteI can't find anything with Mutt Lange sales figures but he really did produce a shit ton of music.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, he also worked with Nickelback, for which he earns many downvotes.
She said that Trump was honest. Which is so laughable people questioned her sanity. She tried to walk it back, but too late. The cat is out of the bag: Shania Twain is crazy.
