Blind Item #16
Apparently this A- list designer who probably won't be running a line for much longer will not knowingly sell any pieces to women of color. Things are about to come down hard on the designer because it is about to become public knowledge.
Georgina Chapman?
ReplyDeleteMarchessa
ReplyDeleteA lot of them don't want us to wear their clothes. The joke is on them. We spend cash money.
ReplyDeleteThis person needs to be exposed.
Ivanka Trump
ReplyDeleteIvanka wants anyone willing to pay for her clothes. They’re mass marketed.
DeleteIvanka??? She sells her clothes everywhere!
DeleteWonder if it will become public knowledge through Ms. Markle’s experiences.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I’m sure there are other candidates than Marchesa.
Just throwing our Elie Saab as an A but not (imo) A+ designer with conspicuously few women of color popping up as models or red carpet celebs. He’s very conscious about which celebrities wear his clothes as making people aspire via celebs is openly his marketing plan.
DeleteAlso John Galliano is well known for being racist. Is he downgraded to A- yet?
DeleteThen there’s talk about Tommy Hilfiger and Herve Leger and while I was looking up details there I found this fun slideshow of designers who have said questionable things about women of color wearing their designs which my browser loathes.
Be ready for reloads. 🙄

ReplyDeleteOctavia Spencer wore Marchesa not long ago. Not sure this blind is Georgina but could be of course.
ReplyDeleteJohn Galliano was anti-semitic, not racist
ReplyDeleteI think Marhesa was more appalled about it being worn by a Real Housewife, not cause of her color.
Do your research. Tommy Hilfiger is not racist. Hilfiger regularly used African-American as runway models and in his print ad campaigns. Those accusations were false and unfortunately are still circulating today.
ReplyDelete@so outrageous
DeleteYeah, I did do my research. Into designers who have been called out by women of color as problematical. As I’m not a WoC, I’m going to rely on their voices rather than pitch in with mine.
Hilfiger actively recruited hiphop artists to wear his clothes back in the day, if he's racist, it's reflected in an entirely different way than this blinds actions
Delete100% Agree
DeleteLagerfeld? He is close to retirement
ReplyDeleteHeres a shortlist:
Iman Names Fashion Houses Guilty Of Racism
https://www.refinery29.com/iman-racism-row-fashion-brands-celine
So who are the main offenders? Well pretty much all the biggies. The designers and fashion houses that the coalition believes are “guilty of this racist act” include Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Chanel, Armani, Gucci, Saint Laurent, Victoria Beckham, Roberto Cavalli and Marc by Marc Jacobs.
Of all the names mentioned, it’s Céline that gets slammed the hardest.
Donna Karan? She defended Weinstein.
ReplyDeleteThat predator enabler's time is up, she only left him because he got caught.
ReplyDeleteKeep in mind that slander is a classic method of trashing the competition. The K on the Snapple bottle stands for the Ku Klux Klan, stuff like that.
ReplyDeleteSo true CJ, they say the bottom of the PM emblem on Marlboro packs looks like two klansmen holding a banner, personally I think it's two ghosts ;)
ReplyDeleteVera Wang but most of the racism is fashion is systematic
ReplyDeleteWith that mug of hers, Vera should be more gracious if true. She is HARD to.look at. I'm am sorry...so sorry
DeleteThe only reason anyone wore Marchessa is to get on the good side of Weinstein. Now the women of Walmart don't want that. She should be happy anyone wears it.
ReplyDeleteShe probably is. If Georgina has any sense, she'll pleasantly surprised ANYONE'S wearing her stuff.
DeleteVera Wang is cursed. Don't buy her stuff. Seriously.
ReplyDeleteThe Tommy Hilfiger "rumors" have been around for 20 years or so. His clothes are ugly anyway.
I say buy what you want because if you boycott companies on moral issues and whatnot you will have to avoid every company.
Cash is green, people.
ReplyDeleteIvanka Trump. Trump family = criminal and racist
ReplyDeleteI call bull~
ReplyDeleteReynolds Woodcock ?

ReplyDeleteI worked for TH and he is a gentleman and a genuinely nice man. His company/employees are also diverse and his inspiration/appreciation of and for urban America is what placed him in perm A designer status. He is no way A- anything... and the company is in danger of going nowhere-still
DeleteMassive success
@Tricia The more recent issue I recall with TH are his statements about Urban design and fashion. He said he regrets getting into Urban design and using hip hop inspiration and if he had to do it differently, he would not have done so.
DeleteLike I said, I’m not the targeted class in this case (except for the brain trusts at Herve Leger), so I defer to those who are and their experiences/concerns.
This could be so many in the industry, definitely needs to be exposed. Just because a designer has WOC and/or women with curves on their runway and in their ads, it doesn’t mean that’s who they really want buying their pieces. And A- rating counts for name recognition only if it’s Georgina or Ivanka IMHO
ReplyDeletethis is easily marchesa's georgina chapman being upset about nene leakes wearing a marchesa gown on-air, and giving the excuse that marchesa is 'above' dressing reality tv stars - when in reality, thats a cover for her not wanting black women wearing her dresses. if you are a super famous award winning movie star like octavia, who is also black, my guess is you get one of those rare passes in her dumb racist head
ReplyDeleteThis is a trick blind because many designers are known racists. Just look it up
ReplyDelete@Brad Pitt, I like your guess. That was such an interesting movie.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone find her anti-reality show star position a tad hypocritical when she herself is on a fashion reality show as a judge?
ReplyDeleteThinking this might be tied to the royal wedding, I immediately go to Vera Wang if she has issues with Meagan M wearing her gown.
ReplyDeleteBut the other obvious answer is the aging designer who had WASP aspirations, none other than Mr. Lipschitz.
@Bubbles I was wondering about that, too. Meagan Markle seems to be a lightning rod for DL racists.
DeleteLast I checked Zendaya is black and she wore Marchesa (I'm not dealing with what that meant)
ReplyDeleteElie Saab was made famous by Halle Berry.
Real Housewives are not considered "classy" in many circles, not just fashion.
Galliano was exposed as being anti semitic. Racism goes hand in hand with that perspective.
A little story about Vera Wang. After 9/11 almost every store had an American flag in it's window or on display. I took an express bus home from work that ran up Madison Avenue, home of haute couture and five star hotels. Vera's store was the last store to put a flag up and the first one to take it down less than a month after it was put up. Someone said she's cursed? I wouldn't be surprised.
Hmmm... women of color? Or just the trashy Real Housewives? Bc I can maybe see not wanting to associate your brand with a bunch of gold-digging women that spend their days fighting, flipping tables, trying not to be tardy to the party, etc.
ReplyDeleteWendy Williams was talking about it and it sounds like it was specifically directed at Nene... who just went out and bought her own dress at Neiman Marcus anyway. I mean... if you're dressing someone complimentary for whatever event it is, and you feel like it could diminish the brand based on the audience, it's a valid reason. If it's actually a racially-biased decision, then that's just sad and disgusting in this day and age, and really, who is throwing stones considering the despicable company she chose to keep and share a bed?!?!?
How about Stella McCartney?
ReplyDeleteRalph Lauren. Also, RL company is closing down flagship stores left and right. In fact, a former landlord is suing them over unpaid rent.
ReplyDeleteI cannot imagine it would be Ralph Lauren, I see people of color in his ads. Anyway I just have never been able to understand this kind of thing. Women are beautiful no matter what their ethnicity.
ReplyDelete@Rafael seems to be unaware that the exact same accusations have been leveled at the Clintons by black Americans. Watch your step there.
