This former A list mostly movie actor is probably still A- list and he is definitely still closeted. Apparently he and his loooooooong time boyfriend split and our actor has a brand new love.
Leo and Lukas is such a good guess. HJ seems to have been with his BF forever, as well. It doesn’t seem like the other usual suspects have had long term relationships that we know of... hmmmm.
have no idea but again, my naive stupid question...WHY is it so bad to admit they're gay or lesbian or whatever these days? back in the old days yeah i get it, their'image' but it's the 21st century so why do they think they'll have no fans if it gets out they're not straight? REAL fans won't car and will love 'em anyway.
@Nature Probably because the money behind the movies is homophobic and won’t back gay actors for fear “middle America” and places like China won’t want to watch a movie with an out gay actor.
I vote for the foreign born heartthrob type who starred in two franchises of different genres. Early in his career people thought he wasn't so bright, largely because of the character he played in the breakout role. It's ironic too that this role other role he played - in a movie that came out the same year as the sequel - he turns out to prefer women.
There is good reason to believe that a lot of female fans will disown a leading man who is gay.
Rent a movie called Man of the Year, about a Playgirl centerfold who, though posing as a fantasy figure for straight women, was actually gay. The filmmakers made this documentary as a sort of coming-out party. They interviewed some of his co-workers, and in the last two minutes of the film,
SPOILER!
...one of the women, a waitress that the centerfold used to work with, loses her cool at the filmmakers and accuses them of slandering the centerfold's good name. She could not, and would not, believe that her dreamboat was gay. In an odd way, she needed him to be straight.
I think one of the main problems for established actors is that they have been telling lies for too long. Take Leo, for example. I'm still not convinced he's really closeted, but suppose he is. If he came out now, he would have to admit to over 20 years of faking relationships. How many models has he dated ('dated') during that time? Probably dozens (I can't keep up). It would make them look bad, too. I don't know how these bearding relationships work, but maybe they could even sue him for breach of contract if he came out.
And there's a snowball effect. If Bradley Cooper came out, people would start asking questions about Irina Shayk, which would then raise questions about Ronaldo.
As for young newcomers, I'm not sure. For someone handsome with 'heartthrob potential', there's probably still lots of pressure from managers to stay in the closet.
Ok, if one of these actors came out, they wouldn't necessarily have to admit that all their heterosexual relationships were contractual. They could claim that they struggled to accept their sexuality and 'really tried to make it work' with women or something. But then people might accuse them of not having been honest with women that really loved them.
Anyway, I think the longer you wait, the more difficult it becomes to come out.
I guess some countries would not like it so the head honchos who like the $$ persuade them to stay in the closet. Which is so sad, what an awful lie to have to endure year after year. I feel sorry for them.
I think this is Jeremy Renner he had a long term gay lover Kristofer Winters. Leo DiCaprio and Hugh Jackman are definitely still A list. Jackman last two films monster hits. Logan made $600 million worldwide and The Greatest showman over $424 million worldwide. This is Jeremy Renner who I hear used to be a makeup artist when he was young in Hollywood.
I can see how Renner and Tom Cruise and others 'pass'.
But how can any adult, conscious human take one look at Jackman or Cooper and not see their reality? It's all over them.
It's their and their teams choice for business reasons to do what they do the way they do it. If it wasn't a potential issue (problem) for their careers, then they wouldn't go through it all.
No one's forcing anyone to do anything- they're choosing to do it.
Renner?

ReplyDeleteI've explained 'suspension of disbelief' someplace here before. It's vital to entertainment, which is not only escapism, but also fantasy projection.

There is this strange phenomena where they will casting couch male actors but then insist the actors pretend to be straight, like make up your mind.

ReplyDeleteI wish these dudes would just be openly gay. Travolta would be 10000x more likeable IMO
