  16. I just hit mute. I started watching because I heard it was going to be more positive. But it isn't. Why does it have to get political. We know his agenda. I just want to watch the awards.

  19. Good for Sam Rockwell!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. yay sam! well deserved

  21. What a weird night so far. The E Red Carpet show was super awkward. The last 45 minutes was just Gulliana sitting at a table with stylists analyzing photos of celebs. They stopped "sending it over to Ryan" for interviews at that point. As far as I saw, he didn't get any of the big names. I did see Mary J., Taraji, Whoopi, the chick from Baby Driver, Common and a few others.

  22. Refuse to Watch.
The Oscars have become a political rally I'm not interested in attending.
Hollywood used to be about entertainment and glamour,
now it's about Jimmy Kimmel crying and spewing his latest talking points from
    the political propaganda machine.
Rachel Maddow puts on a better show than any of these fools ever would or could.

    ReplyDelete
  23. So about 3 people here are actually watching? Lol

I personally don't care - the Oscars are just to sell movie tickets and for the 'elite" to pat themselves on the back. I'd rather just watch a movie. Have your party, but I just don't have any fucks to give. Especially when they start preaching. Until people like Schneider and Geffen and the rest of them are in jail, because the people in that industry put morals and principle ahead of money and DO something about it, they've got nothing to say I want to hear.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Omg, the montages are really good.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Dunkirk wins for sound editing! Well deserved - old fashioned big screen movie!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Baby Driver actress in yellow is so hot, but I don't like something about Ansel's tux.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Whoa - double win - for sound mixing! Dunkirk!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. dunkirk sweep baby!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Academy loves a good war flick.

    ReplyDelete

  48. Dunkirk is the dirty, gritty side of Mrs. Miniver.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I was dying for Seacrest to ask Christopher Plummer how he landed his role in All the money in the world. Meh, coward.

Margot Robbie looks unwell. She's paler than usual and looks like she's lost 10lbs in a fitted white dress nonetheless. Anyone else notice?

    ReplyDelete
  53. Don't know about Margot, but Gael has let himself go.

    ReplyDelete
  54. OMG, the guy who started 'remember me' was TERRIBLE!

    ReplyDelete
  55. There's so much paleness tonight, my least favorite is Nicole Kidman - chick needs a new hair color.

    Gael was not very good.

I will enjoy this thread, however.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Let's just say Rita Moreno is a gift to the world. Damn. We would all like to look like that at 83.

    ReplyDelete
  67. kimmel ups the stakes for shortest speech... Lake Havasu!! maybe a new kia sportage is next

    ReplyDelete
  68. actress in a supporting role goes to........
    Allison Janney

    ReplyDelete
  69. Sam Rockwell...glad he's being given attention. He's been sadly typed, but is a damn good actor.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Rita Moreno is 86!!!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Great performance. Go Janney Go!!

    ReplyDelete
  72. I'm watching now. My thoughts: I loved the montage. I love old movies and that's why I watch. I adore Sam Rockwell and am thrilled he won, but didn't like the movie. Mary J Blige song was ok but the Coco one, eek, it was terrible. Love Allison Janney in everything she's in. Never saw the movie though. Eva Marie Saint still is fabulous, so is Rita Moreno.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I want to know how Alison's dress stays put......

    ReplyDelete
  74. greatest oscar opening speech ever 'i did this all by myself..'

  76. @T.W. being here because you enjoy the commentary is great! I'm annoyed by those who jump in to bitch/brag about how much they hate the show &/or don't watch movies. Go read about something you do enjoy then, it's pretty simple.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. @Squee - Thanks. You have a valid point and so do others. A lot of us refuse to pay to see movies for various reasons. Reasons range from "today's films suck" to "I have a streaming service and/or access to bootlegs" to "I don't want to support Hollywood pervs."

As far as not watching the Oscars, I agree with others in that they have been rigged for a long time. Even if that is no reason to quit watching, myself and others feel like the Hollywood elite are preaching an agenda. These are not the only reasons people have stopped watching.

I have no access to ABC Network so I can't watch even if I wanted. Spending time with friends, acquaintances, and loved ones is more important to me.

I pray you and everyone here have a blessed week. See you in a while.

  77. I am happy for Allison! I am willing to pay money to see I, Tonya & Black Panther. You know BP is getting an Oscar for costume design next year.

  87. I don't have cable, but there are free live streams of the Oscars all over the place.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. @Do Tell - what are the free live streams? Google is no help. The streaming sites want a code from the cable or satellite provider. I have Roku and it asks for the same. I do have Amazon Prime...

  88. Kobe Bryant won for best documentary short. That's nice because at least it's not make believe (I hope). Documentaries are underrated.

When is the Academy going to have a category for best comedy? Think of all the comedies that should have won best picture. I would rather laugh than cry any day.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Google sucks. Kobe won for "Dear Basketball." My second search says it is an animated short film, not a short documentary. All I know is it is short and it won.

  89. Yay Allison!! She's a great actress...very good comedic actress too. Love her in Mom, glad she won!

What's up with that Hawkins woman? My God, she looks skeletal. I'm thinking bulimia because her teeth look discolored. She looks like a dish rag.

I'm flipping back and forth and only caught the tail end...did Kimmel call some young kid a little bastard?

    ReplyDelete
  92. Think I am more excited about CDAN after th Oscars rather than the Oscars themselves. Trying to figure out how to get through work without getting caught

    ReplyDelete
  93. I don't care what anybody says, I love Mark Hamil. Always have. Always will. Luke, Han and Leia will always be A+ to me. With that said, I didn't really like that song from Call Me By Your Name. Only animated feature I saw was Fernando (which I liked). Heard Coco was good, maybe i should find it and see it.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I vote for Fred Flintstone for best actor. Grandpa from the Munster's for supporting actor. Best Actress I'll have to go with Jeannie from I Dream of Jeannie and supporting it's a toss up between Daisy Duke, and Diana Prince Of Wonder Woman.

Seriously Lets not forget these great actors and performances of the past (Al Lettieri Godfather, was so underrated, as was Richard Ward Brubaker, Sydney Lassick (One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest), John Cazale..so damn good. Fredo? Not easy to be pathetic. Bill Nunn Radio Raheem, Giancarlo Esposito, Buggin Out, Yaphet Kotto, Across 110th Street - he and Quinn? Anyone see Tim Heidecker in The Comedy/ Amazing performance. Jason Patric in Narc and Rush. Why is he not working more?? All phenomenal actors never won Oscars and enriched our lives and so many more!

Best Picture was the woman on beach still photo used at the end of Barton Fink, or best Picture should be Groundhog Day which got overlooked and robbed. As did Shawshank, 12 Angry Men. Se7en, Dr Strangelove, Citizen Kane, Boogie Nights, Do The Right Thing...etc..

Best VFX the explosion of crimson mist jettisoning from Silozzo's head in the Godfather. Still incredible to this day. The fly on Jack Elam's face in Once Upon a Time in the West.? Or the ticket stub in that film flying off frame? Incredible stuff...

Best Comedy performance would be the Paperboy in "Better Off Dead" who is still looking for his Two Dollars, or Dan Aykroyd in Neighbors, Dudley Moore in "!0," Woody in Kingpin, Griffin Dunne, After Hours, Kurt Russel, Used Cars..etc...oh Matthau in Bad News or Odd Couple..Gene Wilder Wonka, Young Frakenstein...Sandra Bernhard The King Of Comedy. Susan Peretz Chris Sarandon, Judith Malina all amazing in Dog Day Afternoon.... C'mon man...

Best Director hands down would be Stanley Kubrick, Welles, Hitchcock, Lumet (See Prince of the City now, or any of his greats) Leone, Fellini...

If I could I would give an Oscar to these folks and so many more - way to many many to mention. Just remember these GIANTS of the past tonite...amazing artists who have gone forgotten, but their artistry continues on...

    Thanks guys!

  95. Fuck the Academy Museum. Debbie Reynolds tried her whole life to put one together and even asked the Academy to help her and they wouldn't. I hope Todd Fisher gives them NOTHING from what he still has of her memorabilia.

But haha at the Overlook Hotel ad.

  126. This show just gets more heavyhanded, pretentious, selfrighteous, offbase and annoying every year.

    ReplyDelete
  127. mira sorvino has had so much botox she can hardly move a muscle on her face

    ReplyDelete
  128. Could not stand the music from the Greatest Showman. So out of place for a period piece, so generic.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Emily Blinds dress is a NO...

    ReplyDelete
  143. Well, it's time to go see Greatest Showman for the 5th time. The fabulous music lifted me up in that short performance as much as when I saw the film. Speaking of Blade Runner 2049. We left in the middle because it was so bad. Did I miss something? Should I have seen the original to have understood it? Is it worth another shot?

    ReplyDelete
  144. Ashley Judd has so many fillers in her face - it looks like she’s storing acorns for the winter

    ReplyDelete
  145. Did not realize Rocky the Squirrel passed.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Who was left out of In Memory segment?

    ReplyDelete
  147. @Julia H - I think Ashley actually got a new face for the event. It's longer, thinner and waxier than it used to be. If you watch the video of her screeching her woman's march poem, it looks like her cheeks are about to tear apart, they're so tight. Now she looks more... elongated. It strikes me as being very similar to Nicole Kidman's latest face, so maybe the same surgeon did both.

Her dress is actually very nice. Shame about her personality.

I wish Rose McGowan would crash the event and freak out on stage calling everyone out for their Harvey hypocrisy!

    ReplyDelete
  148. Isn't Eddy Veder the Pearl Jam guy?
