This now aging A+ list athlete in his corner of the entertainment world is making a money grab. He is going to announce a big event and ask to be paid a guarantee upfront. He will then bail on the event before it occurs, but keep the money.

Doesn't he need the money for his tax debt?
ReplyDeleteSounds like The Producers
ReplyDeleteThe fight wouldnt last 10 seconds.
ReplyDeleteI'm just going to say it. It looks a little weird when they grapple.
ReplyDeleteEver see the nude wrestling match in “women in love?”
DeleteMayweather would get destroyed in UFC and he knows it.
ReplyDeleteHe would get a very small amount of respect from me if he did do the fight.
ReplyDelete@Brayson - I'm a die hard MMA fan and practitioner and it's the part of the sport that holds it back, even though BBJ and Wrestling are amazing nuanced arts, they fail to translate to the average sport fan.
ReplyDeleteHow much of a fix is an "undefeated" record?
ReplyDeleteOr an Eagles Superbowl victory?
Who controls the betting?
The guy embraced the nickname "Money." His web site brags about his $30,000 ping pong table, and that his kitchen is so much bigger than yours that you can hear an echo in it. If he can get the same amount of money for not fighting that he can get for fighting and losing (which he absolutely would, and he knows it), he will take it and laugh all the way to the bank. Some athletes might go through with it out of an obligation to the fans, or to test themselves and see who would win, like in the classic 80's film Any Which Way You Can. Floyd's not gonna be doing that. And he's honest about it, so if they give him a guarantee, it's on them.
ReplyDeleteThey're talking about matching him with CM Punk for the UFC fight because that's the worst fighter in the organization, and it would actually be a pretty close fight. If Floyd tried to fight Conor, it wouldn't even last 1 round, and Mayweather isn't going to sign up to look foolish.
