Blind Item #2
This permanent A+ list mostly movie director is rebooting an old Broadway hit for the movies. The star of the Broadway revival that led to the new movie thought he had a chance at the role, but the director is totally blowing him off for his own favorites and only gave the actor an audition to make himself look good in case anyone asked.
Spielberg for director. Don’t know about Broadway actor. West Side Story
ReplyDeleteSpielberg, West Side Story reboot, Matt Cavenaugh original Tony in 2009 Broadway revival.
ReplyDeleteSpielberg's a pedophile
ReplyDeleteHe will find a way to evolve the storyline into a movie requiring a cast of children...
DeleteNO REBOOT OF WEST SIDE STORY!!! GAH!!!
ReplyDeleteIt is unnecessary. The 1960 movie is PERFECTION.
Are there any little blonde girls being cast in this production? I'm sure Spielberg could write one in. If a famous A+ list Director takes a giant steaming shit on an underage girl in the woods, and no one is there to see it happen, did the famous A+ list Director REALLY take a shit on an underage girl in the woods? Philosophy is hard.
ReplyDeleteI’m with Parissucks. Some films should never ever be remade. I mean will smiths brat in the new karate kid. That was a sacrilege and I don’t think I’ll ever get over it 😤
ReplyDeleteWhy can't these guys do a little personal film or something - something with a story and characters for like 1 Million or 2, instead of destroying perfection. This is what the come up with? All their resources and creativity and this is all they got? Unimpressed.
ReplyDeleteI agree with ParisSucks and NewDean. Except I hate all reboots. For the most part, they suck and it shows H-wood can't come up with anything original anymore.

ReplyDeleteI hate the original and am sure I’ll hate the remake. Shocked that SS signed on to direct. Still am confused about it. Still cant believe the SS pedo claims.
ReplyDeleteSS is a pedo. Needs to be exposed like Harvey.
ReplyDeleteI never thought WSS was a great movie to begin with. It certainly hasn't aged well, and I'm surprised that there haven't been a whole lot of people screaming and kicking about the casting of whitebread Natalie Wood playing a Puerto Rican girl, with bad accent, in that movie. "The King and I" got more flack than WSS did.
ReplyDeleteSince we're speaking directors, countdown to a Terry Gilliam blind 3...2...1...
ReplyDeleteWhat is with SS and Broadway lately? Didn't he produce that horrible Broadway TV show...researching...Smash, yeah that was it.
ReplyDeleteLooking through his latest projects, there is not a one that sounds interesting. I boycott Spielberg anyway, but his recent titles all seem like dreck.
And he should stay far, far away from TV. His productions there are all horrible. The man cannot tell a story.
The 'Spielberg is a secret pedo' stories that people pass around here are hilarious. You keep doing you CDAN.
ReplyDelete@plot. Spielberg did band of brothers. Best thing I have ever watched movie or tv hands down. The man does know how to tell a story and when he’s on, he can not be surpassed.
ReplyDelete@Marlin
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree! Forgot about that.
BoB was great TV, but I think Spielberg backed off there, letting the Stephen Ambrose story tell itself rather than add any of his usual, nauseating, bathos. BoB is the one glaring exception to my thesis about SS.
I had a huge argument with my mothers husband about saving private Ryan on Memorial Day a few years ago. He couldn’t believe I wasn’t shitting my pants about that movie like everyone else. Like we are supposed to have some kind of Pavlov dog response to that movie or something. I still think it’s ridiculous.
DeleteThere's an interesting analysis of Saving Private Ryan by Rob Ager on YouTube that shows how it's blatant pro-war propaganda.
Delete@Plot. Not really, it greatly depends on a producers involvement in the production. Look at Martin Scorcese. Both BOARDWALK EMPIRE and VINYL were pretty stagnant as TV shows, yet no one is doubting his bonafides.
ReplyDeleteVessimede... I'm a fan of yours here. Can you give anything substantial re SS?
ReplyDeleteOtherwise, it lacks cred.
A friend worked closely and personally for him/the fam many years and says only good things.
I mean he was really up close.
Of course we know anyone can have secret/hidden behavior.
You're insistent, but do you have more to go on?
west side story is so freakn gay. blah.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Spielberg. I couldn't figure out why Anna Paquin was randomly thrown into Amistad. It didn't seem like her role was necessary.
ReplyDeletePerfection except for the fact that apparently there was only one actual Puerto Rican in Hollywood, and a bunch of other actors in brownface. I'd love to see a remake if only to cast actual Latinos.
ReplyDeleteSS is an annoying hack. An amazingly successful hack, but a hack nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea if he is actually a pedo. The only “dirt” I have on him is that when he and his family (wife, kids, entourage ) visited Universal Studios FL years ago and got the VIVIP Tour, everyone (including his wife Kate Capshaw and the guides —who were execs—) had to walk behind him the entire time. My friend’s SIL, who was one of the guides, said it was really weird but that everyone knew their place.
The point of a West Side Story reboot is to have Puerto Ricans play Puerto Ricans. The original was amazing but the brownface looks ridiculous now. Hope Rita Moreno gets to be in it.
ReplyDeleteIn my humble opinion, SS wants to jump on the new, lucrative diversity trend in Hollywood. Look at the success of HAMILTON and BLACK PANTHER. I'm sorry to be so cynical, but I think this is just a money grab. "Diversity is sooo hot right now!"
ReplyDelete@Cail Corishev
ReplyDeleteInteresting! Thanks for sharing that video.
Yeah, Spielberg is a propagandist in most of his movies. He's right up there with Wagner in hammering away at cultural stereotypes, flogging them till they are properly dead.
What I hated about Saving Private Ryan is it was such a fanboy homage to WW2, typical of the post WW2 generation that likes to pretend they stormed the beaches at Normandy in their diapers. Spielberg does this in all his movies - plays fanboy fiction with an attitude of a 12 year old.
Newbies, plenty of previous blinds intimating SS likes 'em young.
