Blind Item #26 - Oscars

Multiple people said that this permanent A list mostly movie actress who is an Academy Award winner looked not well. She said she was recovering from the flu, but others were whispering that she has something much more serious. She seemed to be in a lot of pain.

  1. Margot Robbie? She has looked really ill for a couple of weeks now!

  2. In other news Oscars ratings tanked to an all time low this year! Any guesses as to the reason(s)?

    1. Music to my ears🎼Although I watched some,it wasn’t the same.... it was more out of abject curiousity than the awe and respect I once had:(

    2. Really? I haven’t seen the numbers.
      Busy news day.
      Some good films this year.

    3. Because people are tired of actors spouting off political rhetoric and their damn virtue signaling. They are all hypocrites.

  3. Meryl Streep? She wasn't looking too good at the Golden Globes either.

  4. Frances McDormand

  5. It could be Whoopi as well.... looked off

  6. Whoopie has an intense fear of flying...was she pressed to attend to do Seacrest damage control? THought Bullock & Jodie Foster looked 'off'.

  7. http://deadline.com/2018/03/oscar-ratings-down-all-time-low-viewership-1202310775/ Down almost 20% since last year!

  8. I thought Margot Robbie and Meryl Streep looked great—relaxed, normal, pretty. Nicole Kidman seemed pale and looked very thin.

  11. +1 slits ... Jane Fonda

  12. IMO the only ones who have A list rating stood out as being in pain...
1.Jodie Foster, but that was bc of the crutches
    2. Jane Fonda. I couldn't quite put my finger on it...

  13. McDormand did not look well to me either. Was Jolie there? Whomever this is must be bad off if makeup could not cover it.

    1. She doesn't wear makeup, refuses

  14. I heard the day before that Sandra Bullock showed up for rehearsal despite "having the flu"...

"There’s Sandra Bullock, saying she's four days of antibiotics in. (Even Hollywood isn't immune to flu season; across town, Armie Hammer had to skip the Spirit Awards due to the flu.) She nails her lead joke, which is so casually delivered, it takes a moment to realize it’s actually scripted from the teleprompter.+

    1. @Unknown - If Sandra said she is taking antibiotics for the flu then she is a liar. Antibiotics are prescribed for bacterial infections, not viruses. Viruses have to run their course but symptoms can usually be managed.

    2. Right? That’s not only stupid, it’s irresponsible.

      She did look crappy.

  15. Jane looked okay in stills but way off when presenting. She seemed disoriented and the way her head kept jerking around was more than a little odd.

  16. Jane is 80 though - we all forget that because of the work she's had done.

  17. Fonda seemed stiff/shaky as she walked toward the microphone to present. I remember mentioning that she looked like walking was painful.

  18. Jane looked kind of pissy last night. If she wasn't the subject of that previous blind (antiSemitic actress getting called out) and seething over getting called out, then maybe she does have some (other) ailment she's dealing with.

  19. Lily Tomlin, didn't hardly recognize her. She looked really thin and frail on the red carpet

  20. TW -- Tamiflu is a five day course for the flu, and doctors recommend that you stay home for at least 5 days. Maybe she just mis-referenced Tamiflu as antibiotics.

    1. @Do Tell - I am told Tamiflu can make you loopy. Hopefully this is what happened.

  21. Hanoi Jane looked like shit. Also said on Stern a couple of weeks back that she was dealing with something.

  22. The ratings were probably so low because they announced that they were going to tone down the politics.

If they'd just let loose and gone full bore, really telling us what our politics should be and what we should believe in, I think the ratings would have gone sky high.

I mean, who cares about a bunch of last year's movies and the craft of acting?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Most people do not want to see politics when they watch the Oscars, which is why hiring Kimmel last year brought ratings to a 9 year low. They hired him again this year, and lo and unsurprisingly behold, ratings for this year were down *another* 16% from the previous year.

The program was tepid, unfunny, preachy, tedious and lame. Oscars used to be entertaining, now it's seen as an opportunity to use the entire broadcast as a condescending platform for didactic lecturing.

Maybe they need to have Gilbert Gottfried host next year.

    1. 100% agree!! Just accept your award. Even when I agree, I don't want to hear it at an award show.

    2. Who’s “most people” in this scenario?
The Oscars have been “political” for many decades, only the butthurt is new.

  24. Ellen D is a much better host.

  25. @Do Tell

I think Kimmel is perfect for the Oscars.

They have already chased away most viewers that do not share their politics. If they change the formula now, they'll just chase off the audience they DO have.

If the Oscars want to capture a much larger audience, this is a multi-year project and would start with Hollywood making a lot of very different kinds of movies.

But this really isn't in the cards.

I expect Hollywood to appeal to more and more of a niche audience.

    1. Right now, it’s tweeners, people who never outgrew comics, and those who love remakes, prequels & sequels.
I doubt plot, character development, and dialogue will ever come back to US cinema. We’re far too stupid now.
There were some decent films nominated this year, but they had limited theatrical release.

  26. McDormond always looks like shit, but she looked way shittier than normal last night. I like the Fonda suggestion...and I do hope she's sick. Miserable bitch.

    ReplyDelete
  27. No more reverence for that idiotic show. Many are disenchanted with Hollywood. I would say Streep due to all the backlash she is going through for her close associations with rapists and pedophiles

  28. I think Kimmel was extraordinarily dull and a total failure as host. Turns out last night's ratings sank to an all time low for an Oscarcast. If Billy Crystal was willing to do it again, he should be brought back. Or Dana Carvey. Someone who is universally enjoyed, not divisive, and actually entertaining for a change. Kimmel ain't it. IMO.

  29. Jane Fonda. And, Sandra Bullock did not look like herself.

The Oscars were the best they've ever been. Remember the fiasco with Ann Hathaway and the dude? Excruciating. Jimmy Kimmel was funny, he kept it moving, and the stage was modern and elegant.
Rita Moreno was fabulous in her dress! The Oscars used to be horrible.

  30. I like excitement and Kimmel does not do it for me. Give Dave Chappelle a chance or Ricky Gervais, commenting on Cdan is super fun.

  31. Anonymous8:17 PM

Give me Tiffany Haddish and Maya Rudolph. I like Jimmy Kimmel, but I would have preferred to see a woman or women given the job.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Jane Fonda. I didn't recognize her when she walked out, she looked a little folded in on herself as she walked, as though she was in pain.

I didn't think Kimmel was that bad, it was passively entertaining. Word around the coffee pot today was that most people there didn't watch it because they didn't have any feeling for the movies that were nominated. Why waste their time on something they didn't care about in the first place, and in many cases hadn't seen.

  33. Margot doesn't have an Oscar

    ReplyDelete
  34. Personally, loved Kimmel as host. Didn't make it about him, no stupid song and dance routine. Just went straight to the awards.

  36. When Jane Fonda was presenting with Helen Mirren I thought she seemed stiff and like she couldn’t catch her breath or something. I think this blind is about her.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Viola Davis appeared to limp to the microphone when she presented. I think it was her who I remember.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Are you serious, yepthatsme, with your 'guess' of Margot Robbie??? Jesus fucking Christ can people please READ THE FUCKING BLIND, then REREAD IT TWICE MORE, before guessing?

Margot Robbie for PERMANENT A list? Margot Robbie for ACADEMY AWARD WINNER? When and what Oscar did she win exactly?

    ReplyDelete
  39. jane's waist was cinched for the gods. she was probably laced up within an inch of her life, i'll bet that's why she was "folded in on herself" and "couldnt catch her breath". i mean, it's not as if she isnt svelte on her own but that perfect little curve was obviously like the highlight of the dress
