Blind Item #12

This foreign born A+ list basketball player is HIV+. It should have easily remained a secret, but events where he plays may bring his case out into the public.

  2. Is he bareback infecting others?
    Only reason to ‘OUT’

  3. Someone from the Milwaukee Bucks... None of them hit me as A+ list unless it's Jason Kidd who left a couple weeks ago

  4. Oh no, the Greek Freak.

An HIV cluster was reported in Milwaukee.

  6. In the 1980s, NBA basketball was about putting the ball through the hoop better than the other team, not about their sexual escapades, reality TV connections, and butthurt social media squabbles. Man, it was great.

  7. exactly Cail, that is precisely why I quit watching. thug mentality and showboating off the court is a drag. same for any sport really, and inserting politics into any of it makes it hundred times worse.

  8. as a side note to blind , shouldn't a player be made to disclose communicable diseases or is it against privacy laws or matter of treating any athlete/bloodletting as if one has infectious disease? for example a sport such as boxing or MMA where there is likelihood of blood is opponent's status known/disclosed?

Hope this blind is wrong. That’s a tough burden to get at such a young age.

  12. It's not the thug mentality, the tattoos or the drama that turns me off basketball. It's that it became both boring and corrupt with Michael Jordan. Pass to the center, pass to the center, pass to the center and naturally the center is the team's superstar. So fucking boring. The other team members don't even start playing until the last 10 minutes of the game, it's like they are jogging on a treadmill until then.

Do we have to go into how Michael Jordan corrupted the sport as well? Or does everyone know what I'm talking about? Travelling not called at all, gambling...

    1. You can't possibly have watched an NBA game in the last five or more years. Sharp, court-wide passing is at a premium. The game as you describe it hasn't been around for quite some time.

  13. They called it the Jordan rules for a reason

  14. Plot, you haven't watched an NBA game in 20 years have you?

  15. Sparsely, I have to admit. But I started liking the way Golden State played a few years ago (you know, like an actual team?) and have been seeking out their games on TV.

Jordan, and all his exceptionalism and entitlement, really did kill the game for me.

Jordan was a guard, not center. Pass it to the person who can score. When he was around, that was Jordan, Pippen, or Steve Kerr. They could win if Kerr or Pippen we’re out, but couldn’t (often) without Jordan. He made people who don’t usually watch basketball into fans.

  18. @plot, being a fan of the Bad Boys, y'all don't have to convince me that Jordan screwed the game up.

  19. Dirk Nowitzki? He's definitely A+

  20. The NBA has never been more exciting. It's filled with premium talent. Amazing players like Lebron, Curry, Durant, Harden, Westbrook, Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, etc... So much exciting talent. Anyone who thinks there's anything "thug" about the NBA in 2018 is just letting their own biases cloud their judgement.

  21. I agree with Plot and Mark.

  22. I will admit it has probably been a good 10years since I sat and watched an NBA game and closer to 20 as a regular viewer and maybe because my home town team has sucked in as many years has a lot to do with it but Tim the players you've rattled off? I know self proclaimed "king james" recently penned some bizarre self-serving egostroking letter to himself praising his accomplishments but that didn't even compare to teaser primetime press conference sit-down bonanza declaring where he's gonna take his talent to nonsense. and curry and Durant in not so distant past had some lowclass schoolyard/courtyard battle over who has better three hundred dollar shoes that no little kid watching could reasonably afford and harden has a past with a Kardashian or all of them and Irving is into some trade drama and dissing of teammates. I know all this bullshit yet I couldn't recite single stat or win/loss record for any of them. hell aside from lebron and Irving I don't even know who any of them play for and that's a problem when the personality and stories and drama outplays the sport.

as for game play I have no problem with ball getting fed to superstar who can pull points. I preferred defensive game but heck good basketball is fun to watch and I will tune into college games because I just like good sports in general, one thing I did despise was the last ten minutes of each game spent watching leading team at free throw line, fixed? but the lack of humility and ego at professional level wrecks game for me. I don't like the nonsense of it all. just like when Griffith came here I heard nothing of his play just hoopla and drama of whatever Kardashian he dated. even Verlander, adored him and I like Kate Upton but I hated hearing their goings on during the season and the tweets and pictures of them in new york and what upton was wearing to the game I found it distracting and frankly none of my business. all this garbage and massive paycheck is why a mom and dad with a couple kids can't go out to a game for less than a hundred bucks with smuggled popcorn, second mortgage for a program. heck they dont even pass out scoresheet anymore and I think all-star voting is all electronic these days. now I feel like I should call em all rabble-rousers, grab my shawl and sip lemonade on rickety swing with wad of tinfoil attached to transistor radio antenna that is of course if games are still broadcast over air or do I need Sirius XM subscription.. excuse me as I adjust my kerchief and stuff used Kleenex up my sleeve as it's now time to water sidewalk

    1. If all you can say about them is that they are proud of their accomplishments and success, that's pretty good. LeBron, Curry, Durant. These are all model citizens off the court. Charitable dudes who give back to the community over and over.

If you're not watching, fine, that's cool. But the NBA is in a great place right now with lots of good guys playing at a very high level.

  24. I heard about that HIV cluster on the news and thought Wow! Now I know why! How can u not know you have syphliss and HIV. Now his ass is gonna be In a courtroom. An acquaintance in the 80's would have random hookups on the subway, clubs..etc until she received a letter from the health dept about exposure to HIV. It was scary but she was negative.

  25. "He made people who don’t usually watch basketball into fans."

Yet in the long run killed the game for many others...and led exactly to the kinds of players we have these days who expect the same sovereignty and entitlement that Jordan had, the deference from the refs, a whole league willing to pretend Jordan wasn't suspended for gambling but he was just feeling too depressed about dead dad to play Basketball for EXACTLY 18 months.

We saw it all. We watched the refs let Jordan foul right and left without calling it, or traveling GOD we saw plenty of that!

And then there were the set-up "miracle" shots and the games that turned into stage performances worthy of the WWE because basketball needed a Winner, and that Winner was named Jordan!

It's too bad all the bullshit Jordan got away with because he was an incredible player. Too bad that is marred by the NBA's marketing which oversold Jordan through all kinds of manipulations.

And besides, Michael Jordan is a dick. Who needs THAT as an example to follow?

  26. Golden State has completely revolutionized how basketball is played. The Center is no longer the go to man. It's a team effort with the three point play no longer a novelty shot but part of a coherent offensive plan. The NBA East has been slow to adapt but teams with younger players are starting to use the new offensive form of play.

I was a big fan of the Bad Boys. I was also a fan of Michael Jordan.

I refuse to watch college basketball. Or college football.

If an NBA player is at the center of this cluster in Milwaukee that will hurt the league.

  27. Giannis is looked at as a guy who could be the best player in the league for a several year stretch. He's only 23 and a long way from his prime and he's already in the top handful. He's one of the most popular players, especially in the European market. So yeah, that would be a huge blow to the league if that came out.

  28. It should be PUBLIC knowledge if someone has a disease that can be contracted. But there are ethical issues of who should be protected in these cases. And it always seems to lean towards the people who have the disease.

  29. I've never really been into the NBA (I prefer watching college BB, specifically my alma mater Kansas), but I have to say it's pretty cool to watch Steph Curry and LeBron James. They have incredible talent.

I've often wondered about how sports at this level (or I suppose any level) have managed bloodborne pathogen protections. Theoretically it should be the same as any workplace and I don't believe you have to disclose your status to your employer. Hence him not likely disclosing that to his teammates, perhaps to the team doctors? HIPAA has changed a lot of disclosure rules, I know.

    1. The league came up with protocols after Magic Johnson where if a player is bleeding they stop the game until it's handled. I'm not sure about the disclosure side, but nobody else has been known publicly to be HIV positive.

  30. What we need is a social justice movement to get more short, white women into the NBA. They make up at least 30% of the American population, yet there are zero playing in the league. This is obviously sexism and reverse racism. Pass some laws. March. Scream. Wear a pussy/basketball on your head as you march into arenas.

"the NBA is in a great place right now "

This could very well be true. When Golden State first played a playoff game with Curry, I was watching at the gym and saw a marked difference in the style of play, something that had disappeared in the long years of Superstar Basketball.

Maybe this year I'll begin watching again.

  33. Jean Gray, I agree completely. Especially of they are knowingly putting people at risk for contracting these diseases, they deserve no protection and should be publicly outed as a means to protect the public. It’s infuriating! Imagine if one of your teens was one of these children who were infected. It is unthinkable.
