Blind Item #10 - Oscars - Himmmm

This (former back in the day A+ list mostly movie actress) sneered while looking at (this A list celebrity/athlete): "What is SHE doing here? Are they stooping that low now? This is supposed to be for elite professionals in our craft."  The lady beside her (A-/B+ list mostly movie actress from an acting family who is also an Oscar nominee/winner) looked as if she wanted to crawl under something and hide.  When I complimented her on her dress and her 'date' for the night, she said with a very sheepish grimace: "You're welcome to take my place if you want".  Don't think it was her idea for the PR reunion.

  8. Mira Sorvino for the nice girl. Always loved her and her Father.

  9. Yeah, I'm in agreement on the why are athletes there thing. The seats are very very limited. The "lesser" nominees have trouble getting family in. Let the non-Hollywood celebs go to their own industry galas.

  10. It's never going to be an event for "elite professionals" in the craft when the likes of Jen Garner are there.

Totally Mira Sorvino, Sciorra and Lindsay Vonn. Judd isn't an Oscar nominee.

What the hell else has Lyndsay Vonn got going in her life. She washed up at the Olympics after too much boasting. She is just trying to be relevant and keep her Q rating up so she can hawk stuff on late night TV.

  13. @LooLoo - It didn't say the Former A+ was an award nominee/winner; her "date" was. Totally Judd, Sorvino & Vonn.

  14. Judd's face was looking HORRID. She has entirely too much filler in her cheeks. Not a good look for her.

I think they had athletes there because it was a mediocre Oscar show celebrity wise. Very few A++ listers were in attendance as they had been in previous years. Not enough star power for ratings sake so they accepted several z listers to the mix.

    1. She looks better now than a few months ago. Aging sux y'all, especially if one has relied heavily upon their looks in the past. I noticed that Allison Janney was botoxed to the point of hardly any movement in her face. Can't wait for the last minutes on those TX before an event. Maintenance.

  19. I'd guess athletes go because they get invited, and as a type of celebrity themselves, it's a chance to expand their stardom. Apparently there's a lot of crossover between sports celebrities and acting celebrities anyway, at least in terms of who's sleeping with (or bearding for) whom, so it seems natural they would mingle.

  20. I don't know why she was there either but that comment was hilariously snobby.

  21. Wait, was Jack Nicholson not there?

  22. Ashley looked like shit last night. Her face is so full of fillers, it looked swollen, especially her profile.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think the back in the day was Faye Dunaway- you can just tell she is a mean, snobby person- plus Bette Davis said she was so that seals the deal for me

  24. I didn’t even recognize Sciorra. When I heard later who it was I couldn’t believe it. Why do that to your face. She was so interesting looking when she was younger and now she looks like Ashley Judd’s sister. I think Jen Garner has had a face lift too.

  26. Mira Sorvino looked like a knockout last night. Wow. I'm assuming she had some work. And the person that did that work will be in very high demand now. Amazing.

  27. Sciorra knocked her role in The Sopranos out of the park. Tremendous opportunity and she grabbed it with both fists. Because of that, she will always be in my good books.

    2. Harvey is the common demoninator. Annabella came out months back about being viciously raped by him & withdrawing from Hollywood as a result. Ashley & Mira were both burned by him as well.

  31. Sciorra already came forward in the NYT. Was a big event. +1 for the Judd Sorvino guesses. I hate that Judd had the experience she did with Harv but that's separate from her legendary pretentiousness. I always thought that's what kept her from becoming a bigger star, but now we know the truth.

  32. I can see Ashley Judd being that pompous and elitist, although why, I don't know, She didn't have that much to do on the Twin Peaks revival, and she doesn't seem to be doing much of anything acting wise these days.

  33. I usually feel so sorry for celebrities, because they are surrounded by sycophants. I cannot imagine a life in which no one is there for "me," but rather what I could do for them.
However, comments like this just make me want to cringe. At what point do they forget that they are people just like the rest of us?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Re:Judd
I haven't spoken to her since she went Hollywood but as a young woman who was only the younger family member of the Judds, she was down home and low maintenance. We all change through the years and sadly, sometimes it us not for the better.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I also should admit that when Enty posted Vonn's picture, I groaned and no kidding, said what is SHE doing there? lol

    ReplyDelete
  36. Thanks everyone. I read the article just now (no clue how I missed it), absolutely terrifying. No wonder she was so uncomfortable on stage. Poor thing seemed still scared.
    Harvey is a monster.

  37. @Sign Name Below

I know someone who grew up with Ashley (while she lived with her father which was most of the time) who says the same, that she was delightful and low key and funny as hell. Ashley used to write her hilarious letters about her Hollywood experiences, too.

  38. Vonn for the athlete, for sure.

Ashley Judd for the one criticizing her. Mira Sorvini for the mortified one.

LOL. Ashley...you are literally at the bottom barrel of your craft. The only reason there is because of your Weinstein story. please, you dont have the level to even be there without the movement. Ashley, I feel sorry for what you went through, but you're still nuts.

  39. Saw Annabella at a lecture panel that was supposed to be about film and she talked over the other actors with tale after tale about burning bridges because she "stood up for herself" and "questioned directors" she came off like such a pain. Also it started late because guess who was late.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Sounds like Jane Fonda.

  41. @beebop Was Ashley Judd ever "A+"? A, maybe...

    ReplyDelete
  42. You all got jokes but Ms. Judd envisions herself as a future senator from one of two states . . . .

She would qualify as a "back in the day" A+ with a string of big movies in the mid/late 90s, plus having a very famous family.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I totally got a Faye Dunaway vibe for this but her only reunion date was Warren Beatty. Who is Annabelle Sciorra and what’s the reunion with M Sorvino?

    ReplyDelete
  44. The thing they have in common that remains relevant (beyond being crime victims) is that Hollywood erased them at the height of their careers because Harvey blacklisted them. Directors like Peter Jackson recall checking their references with Weinstein/Miramax and getting reports of seriously unprofessional behavior that tipped the balance.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Lots of people are missing the blacklisting part, which was Harvey’s Phase 2.
These women were destroyed, both personally & professionally.

      Delete
    2. What "destroyed" Ashley Judd 'S career after the Weinstein incident that happened in 1997, was the three big budget movies she toplined between 2000 and 2004 I believe, that went nowhere (1) and lost tens of millions of dollars (2). Remember Twisted, worst reviewed movie of 2004 that lost $25 million on a $50 million budget?

She got plenty of opportunities for years after the HW incident but her movies sucked and studios finally realized she wasn't a bankable star. She didn't need any help from Weinstein she tanked her own career!

  45. Lindsey Vonn's dress was HIDEOUS

  46. Yes, we know that the reason Ms Judd didn't pursue her senate ambitions in 2013 was because, she claimed, all sides sabotaged her. Maybe she will convince herself that things have changed, who knows?

  47. Ashley Judd (she used to be so pretty, wth happened)? Mira and Lindsay Vonn.

  48. I can see Amal Clooney saying something like this to Angelina Jolie upon spotting her at the UN.

But an actress? At the Oscars? Come on now. Stop taking yourselves so damn seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Yes. I believe they're called "seat fillers"?

Some local Asian celebrities from where I live like to go to Hollywood and pretend to pursue a career there to "up international", they rarely last long in LA tho (the standards for actresses are very low here where I live—most of them got their start by having their parents buy roles for them, the university I attended for undergrad was literally dubbed "Celeb Campus" because it produced so many celebs and the professor would go through attendance call and it would be a regular occurance for students to miss class for filming... BUT if you think it's because we're a performance arts school, YOU'RE WRONG: it's actually only because spoiled-types attended our school and they'd have access to "start careers" in entertainment). It's not like in America where any person from any social class can just hop in a Greyhound be a "struggling actress" with a waitress/catering dayjob. You get the idea.

Well, these actresses from where I come from don't need to go to acting classes. They can by without the skills. So they're used to the easy life which is why I imagine it must've been a shock for them to try out a Hollywood audition.

Well sometimes these actresses/singers whatever come to Hollywood for show, get a seat-filler's gig and pose on a red carpet and their PR will spin it to mislead the media/public like they got an INVITE. Then they come home and people treat her like "SHE MADE IT OVERSEAS" and is greeted with massive endorsement deals.

People from my country are very vulnerable to that crap (they'll all flock to a Hollywood film just to see a 10-second appearance of "one of their own" as an EXTRA). And they all paid full price tickets to Hollywood. It makes me incredibly sad for my people...

    ReplyDelete
  50. *GO international (damn autocorrect).

    ReplyDelete
  51. I mean don't get me wrong. I get it. You want to see someone from your own country. My Kenyan friends go BONKERS for Lupita. But at least Lupita's the REAL DEAL.

  52. Anyway, sorry if I sounded like a snob myself (in my responses to Movie Midget).

FWIW, I don't think what the subject of this BI was right—I think she was self-important and pretentious. But I'm talking about a from-a-formerly-colonised-country perspective (one whole other extreme, beyond the snobbery spectrum). It's just that self-inflicted/internalised racism is something that makes me angry and sad...

  53. I used to love Ashley Judd's acting, but this is her, in my mind. She surely has a pretentious streak -- law school, political dreams. She seems to always be trying to prove that she is smart and not just a "pretty face."

  56. If I remember correctly Annabella Sciorra was in "The hand that rocks the cradle" which was a pretty big film in the early 90s (late 80s?). She was also very good as Gloria in the Sopranos. Was that role before or after Harvey though? Her relationship with Tony Soprano was quite violent.

  57. I’m originally from Scranton. That’s not how it worked. They invested 500k. INVESTED. There was no legal venue to get that money back. It’s not on Sorvino it’s in the horrible politics of that area that have plagued them for years. The city is a wasteland.

  58. AshleyJudd name dropped Harvard in her red carpet interview with Mira Sorvino, saying they were both Harvard graduates. OMFG. MS looked embarrassed.

Mira Sorvino went to Harvard for four years snd graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Asian Studies. She speaks fluent Chinese! Ashley Judd went to an 8 month vanity program for rich people that doesn't even require that you have a BA, and she needed freaking tutors to get through the course work. But suuuure, Ashley, you're both "Harvard graduates."

As for Ashley Judd being at the Academy Awards, she hadn't been invited AS AN ACTRESS for over 15 years. She only got an invite because this is the year of the Harvey Weinstein whistleblower. Ditto the Golden Globes. Next year she'll be watching it in her PJs from her couch in Tennessee like she has every year since 2003.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Oh GOD! Did Ashley really claim to be a Harvard grad next to Mia? That IS embarrassing! Poor Mia.

  60. Daaaamn. Every fucking time I post something about local celebs from the country where I'm from, CDAN stops working (like it won't load and stuff and I can't comment properly unless I've turned proxy on).

Last time this happened was after I posted on that Salma Hayek thread... I think the government blocked it because yesterday the government also started blocking Tumblr!

  61. The phrase "elite professionals in our craft" pretty much narrowed it down to Ashley Judd. Nobody does pretentious like Ashley Judd.
