Blind Item #9

This dadager who was probably the biggest dadager in the world for several years got at least one daughter (probably two) pregnant at varying points in their teen years. He has also sexually assaulted nieces and no one has ever tried to stop him or reported him.

Probably Joe Jackson. Does Aretha Franklin have sisters and female cousins?

  13. Just based on the phrasing of "1 daughter" and "probably 2" it seems to me this particular dodager has more than 2 daughters.

I'd tend to think it is Joe Jackson because he was absolutely first known primarily as their manager - only later, after his fame had been established, had abuse allegations come to light.

Lohan and Simpson, I feel, really only gained prominence AFTER bewildering observations thrust them into spotlight. So basically, I wouldn't think of either as being described as the biggest/most prominent in the field of managing their children's careers. We only know about them BECAUSE of the creep factor.

Jamie Spears represents one of the better celebrity fathers out there.

    1. Sure, if you think it's not abusive to have complete control over another adult's finances FOR A DECADE. It's fucking insane. Either Britney is too sick to be working as a de facto slave, or she is well enough to work and be free of her father's conservatorship. And I will not lie. Jamie Spears was the first to come to mind for this blind. The world had watched and let this happen to a woman and not only shrugged but said oh, how big of him, what a hero.

    2. @Amy,when you have a mental illness and been deemed by the Courts and Judges as unfit to handle your Finances, conservatorship is the best option. Please understand that there are 2 minors involved and letting their mom blow money on guys, ugly clothes and plastic surgery would only lead to homelessness. Believe me, if the courts say you need a conservator, it means you are unfit . The constant touring/working though is a bit concerning .

      Delete
    3. She agreed to continue the conservatorship in Court when the first order expired, before he took over she pissed away every penny she made. At least now she'll have a retirement and it's not like her money goes into his bank account, there are laws and procedures he has to follow.

      Delete
    4. @Plot and @sd Auntie - People need to go beyond Pyschology 101.If things are so dire that the courts declare a person mentally unfit to handle finances then the person is mentally unfit to do anything else.

Funny how Britney can earn a living but cannot handle the money she earns...

      Delete
    5. People still need to be active in life, have creative outlets and feel they have a purpose. Singing and entertaining is something Britney enjoys. Her dad makes sure she doesn’t push herself too far and works hard to allow her to do what she enjoys within the limits of what is mentally and emotionally safe for her.

Like most with mental health issues, she’s not a vegetable. By agreeing to continue conservatorship, she acknowledges her weaknesses. Think about it - someone who is bipolar blow all their money in a manic episode, but doesn’t mean they couldn’t function in their given job/profession.

Conservatorship is a safety net. Removes worry from her that she could be taken advantage of financially in vulnerable moment, and helps protect her and her sons for the future.

I found an 1991 article from the Chicago Tribune where LaToya is quoted that he abused Rebbie, while she was in the next bed & tried to abuse her...this was supposed to be in her Tell All book....siblings didn’t deny it, just refused to talk about it.ever.

  21. Remember the time Oprah was real, for once, and lost it on an audience member who said he wanted to manage his children's careers like Joe Jackson managed his? It wasn't her usual fake outrage, she was furious over the idea that any father would aspire to being Joe and what he did to fuck up his family.

'Course, that didn't prevent Oprah from featuring Joe on other shows, like Life with LaToya which Oprah produced.

  22. No it is not abusive in Britney's case at all.

She is not working as a slave for anyone. She is doing what she trained her whole life to do which has paid off a considerable debt she amassed during her breakdown and allowed her to be a professional. No small thing.

Your either/or is convenient for your own understanding alone. It has nothing to do with reality. Britney has NOT crashed and burned. She has NOT become a recluse. She is NOT living in a facility for the mentally ill. I credit her with rising above the usual tropes of a star who burns herself out through a combination of overwork and mental illness. Britney has survived, but her father was the scaffolding for her to rise up again.

Britney is thriving under this conservativeship which Jamie controls less and less with every court refiling. The trustees control it for the most part, which prevents Britney going into massive debt like she did before during her manic meltdown.

I think it's awesome that Brit is working, mental illness and all, and seems incredibly happy at the moment. Go girl!

    1. You have your opinion. Financial control over another adult is the ultimate form of control over another person's independence -- and Jamie Spears is scary in how he has wielded control over her life and refuses to let her be her own person. She's a mother. She's been a wife. She deserves her own life, her own choices, her own mistakes. When she kills herself you tell everyone how this was so good for her she was thriving.

    3. @Amy, life is not a one-size-fits-all. What@Plot states are facts. It is not solely her dad in charge, and he set things up with full transparency. Not the case for everyone in similar situation. However, in this situation his actions have undoubtedly saved her life and spared her other great harm and tragedies.

    4. I work as a guardian/conservator for incapacitated adults. There are a broad range of powers granted. At least here in NY, the court first needs to find that you have functional impairments (either physical or cognitive) and that you are unable to understand the consequences of those impairments. You may need a guardian of your person (who may make medical decisions or decide where you live), of your property (financial management), or both. It is always tailored to be the least restrictive form of intervention reasonably calculated to protect the person. It is quite possible to have a very limited guardianship, in which someone has certain specific powers but not the rest. For example, I have one ward for whom my only power is acting as a liaison between him and his landlord because his landlord just triggers his anxiety and rage. But he’s free to work, manage his health and finances, etc. it is absolutely possible that Britney can work but also need someone to make sure her bills are paid. They are not mutually exclusive. Because the constitution guarantees all Americans life, liberty, and property, and guardianship potentially takes liberty and property, the court is extremely careful to make sure that each person has every possible protection.

  25. @Amy

Jamie does NOT have control over Britney's finances. He never did. All he made out of the deal was some recompense for closing his business to take care of Britney when she was at her very worst. He had to monitor her 24/7 for years.

Britney's estate is managed by a board of trustees appointed by her banks. Jamie has no influence or controls there, except to petition for additional costs which he seems to have actually given up, handing those petitions over directly to his daughter now.

So you would rather see Britney make her mistakes for tabloid fodder????? Aren't you the humanitarian! Do you have any idea how close Britney came to total destruction and probably death, possibly taking her kids with her? No, you don't, obviously.

Britney's spiral out of control went way beyond mistakes. It is a nightmare dealing with a family member who was as mentally ill as Britney. But you would rather watch her, for every cell phone video cam, break down completely for your enjoyment. I wouldn't. I'm glad her father stepped into that chaos she created, banished her leeches who were making bank off her, and took over the situation financially. We should all be so lucky to have such a relative.

    1. While I agree with you 99%, it appears that her Dad and a lawyer still have complete control. Her Dad makes most of her day to day life decisions and the lawyer handles the finances. I haven't seen anything about a board of trustees anywhere?

  26. ".If things are so dire that the courts declare a person mentally unfit to handle finances then the person is mentally unfit to do anything else. "

    Bullshit.

Plenty of handicapped people continue to work even if their finances are controlled by others.

Trust fund babies have their finances controlled by others and they can do whatever they want with their lives.

The ability to make financial decisions has NOTHING to do with other areas of one's life, legally speaking.

She's very lucky and in a good place and it's for the best she is managed and protected to the degree she is.

Sadly nobody prevented her from the turnbill surgery on her mouth, still makes me sad every time she smiles. Khloe got the same surgery on hers but it turned out a bit different. Google it & you'll see.

  33. DO you ppl not understand Bipolar disorder at all? Britney was diagnosed with this, as was my husband. He is perfectly able to function in society, just as she is, They just have issues when it comes to handling things like money, and even sex. That does not mean they need to be called unfit to do anything. My husband served in the military, and is now back in college. He is an artist and a tattoo artist as well as being in a band. However, I have to control the finances, and I have to point out to him often that we are not made of money.
Britney was offered the opportunity to control her own finances, but chose to have her father continue as he was doing a great job. He is amazing and supporting, and allowing Britney to still live a normal and happy life as much as possible.
Calling it slavery is ridiculous. Having set things to do each day is very important for someone with bipolar. It keeps them focused, Britney has said herself on many occasions how much she enjoys what she does. Even her workout regimen is one she sets for herself, she works out hours each day because she wants to and needs to.
Just because you would not believe you would appreciate someone handling your finances, does not mean she doesnt. She makes her own decisions, and as long as she is on medication that controls her

  39. Britney Spears was abused from a young age, and it's been pushed in our face. From her first album cover, where she's down on her knees, looking up, to her first hit song which suggested being physically abused ("Hit me one more time"), it's just very sad.

Her meltdown(s) are the typical response of what happens to an abuse victim as they get older and it becomes more and more difficult to deal with the compartmentalizetion and split personality.

So considering her parents almost surely knew what was going on with their poor daughter, all the way back to the Mickey Mouse Club and maybe before, I don't think her father managing her finances is all that great for her.

  42. If Britney's dad was so worried about the health and well being of his daughter, he wouldn't have demanded such outrageous fees to be paid to himself for simply taking care of her. Parents of undiagnosed mental health patients do it all day every day for free. It looks like Britney is the family cash cow, and he wasn't about to miss his meal ticket. Once she was diagnosed and on her meds, with no more outbursts and a willingness to comply with her program, her slew of financial advisers could have resumed their job. She's had men in charge of her life since she was young, which is one of the biggest contributions to her meltdown. Imagine what being in control of her own life would do for her self esteem.

    1. The fees paid to conservators/guardians is set by statute and is generally a percentage of their income. Britney makes bank. Of course her dad would get a big chunk for managing her finances. It’s set by statute and approved by the court. He doesn’t just take care what he wants. 🙄

    2. He made $130k/yr up until last year, last year they added 5%. Does anyone here read the NYTimes?

      Delete
    3. Yes, that is entirely possible given how much she makes. It’s set by law. Everyone gets the same percentage, just not everyone makes as much as Britney. It doesn’t make him a bad person or bad dad. I have a ward with a lot of money. I stand to make tens if not hundreds of thousands when she dies. Her estate is also A LOT of work. She’s practically a full time job. That’s my job, and that’s how I get paid. I have a lot of responsibility. I make life or death decisions. I have a lot of liability if anything happens to them. $130k for someone with the complicated finances of Britney Spears? It’s not as much as you think.

    4. So it looks like my memory blows as of 2015/2016...

"Mr. Spears takes in about $130,000 a year as a conservator and is also reimbursed for the rent on an office he uses. His bills are reviewed and approved by the judge. He has sought only modest increases over the years, though he also requested 1.5 percent of gross revenues from the performances and merchandising tied to Ms. Spears’s Las Vegas show. The court, Ms. Spears and her court-appointed lawyer signed off on it."

      https://www.google.com/amp/s/mobile.nytimes.com/2016/05/08/arts/music/is-britney-spears-ready-to-stand-on-her-own.amp.html

Still peanuts considering what she makes. From the same article:

"As conservator, according to his court filings, Mr. Spears’s work has included “overseeing and coordinating Britney’s [redacted], business, costuming, personal, household stuff, and legal matters (touching upon entertainment, music, other business opportunities, family law issues, the litigation, trial and/or resolution of other disputes, and ongoing litigation and conservatorship matters).”

He negotiates business opportunities, such as her 2012 stint as a judge on “The X Factor,” as well as interviews and sponsorships, even the maintenance of vehicles and the custody arrangement for her children."

The Jacksons got too many demons as it is:

Jackie, Jermaine and Randy have been openly accused of domestic battery against their wives/girlfriends.

Tito stole TVs (not tires as I wrongly suggest) and other equipment.

Rebbie and La Toya were sexually abused by their old man (and a rumor has went around - but safely hidden - that Rebbie and Janet look too much alike, if you know what I mean by that...).

Marlon and Jackie were possibly the most physically abused by their father.

Michael allegedly was sexually molested as a child.

Janet allegedly had an abortion with her baby after her marriage to James DeBarge broke apart (La Toya recalls Janet saying she had to get James out of Los Angeles neighborhoods that had heavy drug activity) and it's alleged James physically abused her (apparently "What About" is about him but Janet doesn't reveal who she was singing about, it could've been inspired by some domestic abuse experiences she had).

Joseph is possibly the father of two other children (Donte Jackson and Brandi Jackson - both were adopted by Randy and Jackie respectively).

And of course we know about Michael.

Lest we forget, Britney's first video was directed by a porn director.

"Her meltdown(s) are the typical response of what happens to an abuse victim as they get older"

Not every abuse victim typically breaks down when they age, come on. Britney was also saddled with heredity. Her grandmother on her father's side was also bipolar.

"I don't think her father managing her finances is all that great for her."

Except it saved her life and gave her children a stable mother...

Jamie Spears was an alcoholic and/or drug addict who has been sober now for decades. He left his business to take care of Britney (as her mother proved to be some sort of trigger for Britney's episodes.) He has collaborated with Kevin Federline to make the best of a horrible situation for Britney and their kids (who would have guessed that KFed would be such a stand-up guy in the midst of all this.)

Whatever you want to foist on Jamie, imaging him responsible for everything that has happened to Britney her whole life, he came through when he needed to. Lawyers, trustees, and the courts review every single move made by her estate and Jamie set it up that way.

"he wouldn't have demanded such outrageous fees to be paid to himself for simply taking care of her."

$130 grand a year is NOT an outrageous fee! Okay, he gets an office and a modest house, too. But Jamie has set things up so that most of the funds from Britney's act and her tours go into her estate. She makes a ton of money right now and he has protected it for her exclusive use and for her children.

  48. @plot and @Truthseeker are right. Anyone who has lived their life with a bipolar or Schizophrenic knows Britney is better off under the now much looser conservatorship. Those of you who haven't been through it,please stfu. I really don't care about someone's degree. I was told I was "controlling" my mother,a long diagnosed schizophrenic, and the expert decided she didn't need her meds, she was too "normal". Of course,a near disaster occurred, fortunately, everyone knew better, she even had a moment of clarity when she wanted to be back on meds. Britney makes more money now,her Father doesn't get paid anymore than other money managers, and I believe he has to report to Doctors ,the court, and to others who really handle the money. If he is guilty of wrongdoing, there are checks for this, the world is watching. Trust me,what everyone saw,the reality was far worse. Nobody is involuntary committed without very good reason. Also," normal"people get taken advantage of by family, fake friends, and, professionals handling their money, Britney would be an easy target, but I suppose it would make good gossip copy if she was left to her own choices.

  53. Yeah, Jamie was a great Dad! Too bad about his drunken, abusive rages where he beat the shit out of his wife, in front of Britney and her brother, I might add. Oh, and the incessant gambling away of grocery money where the kids went hungry.
None of that could possibly have affected Britney, causing her extreme anxiety, night terrors and depression.
He finally went to rehab and supposedly quit drinking by the time Jamie Lynn was was about twelve. Supposedly.
Who knows what nasty shit he got up to when he was drunk.
Nah, he's so special that, I'm sure, all of the money he makes off of poor, disabled Britney is being put away for her, besides his sweet manager percentage. I'd love to see a court appointed CPA go over dear, old Dad's books.
The man disgusts me but if Plot says he's a saint, so fucking be it.
As far as bi-polar disorder goes, one size doesn't fit all, either.
Mental disorders/illnesses are as much of a dilemma as they always were. Many are painted with a broad brush.
Drugs are thrown at 'kids', usually by the discretion of the the parents, especially those with much to hide.

    1. I fucked it all up (see above for quote). I wasn't clear above that it was a percent of her earnings, I initially thought it was for merch +other deals he had a hand in. There may be another article out there (with 5% of merch+others) but from the NY Times:

He makes $130k/yr +an office. In 2015/2016 he got an additional 1.5% gross of performance and merch from just her Vegas show. The 2yr extension was for $35mil.

He did a lot of work for the 8 years he only got paid $130k, I don't think he's taken advantage of her financially at all. Imagine what that $130k/yr saved her if she'd been managing it all herself the way she did before he got involved; she'd be flat broke next to Willie and Tyson. Money well spent.

Adulthood sucks- Britney has it made. I want to just go to work, and let someone else deal with all the deadlines, and money management. She was raised being MANaged like a child robot. So was easy pickings for the user that basically was keeping her from her family, and draining her accounts. I don't think her dad had a choice, he had to step in and take responsibility for the lack of daily living skills she attained living in such a controlled environment her whole life. But again 130k is nothing I can't even imagine how many properties, bills, routine maintenance and repairs he has to manage.

  60. Britney's father was a fucking abusive, bloody bastard.
I didn't say that all of you said he was a saint.
To not take his behavior into consideration is beyond me.
Way beyond me. That man killed his children's childhoods. That man killed his wife's life.
What part of those scenarios do you not get?
And no, I'm not 'triggered'. That's an overly used meme. I'm just real.

  61. Jojo, he was her manager, the one who was in charge of her first video (mentioned above) that was produced and directed by a porn producer/director.

  62. And, why the fuck would you rather have your father take over you finances? That doesn't sound right, but to each his own, I guess......

  63. Joe Simpson, Culkin dad, or Carter dad?

  64. @mary lamb

Um, no. Britney's mother managed her early career and Larry Rudolph acted as the contact with the studios, directors and engineers.

  65. Um, are you a family member living in a trailer park? And no, Jamie was her manager. Nice try, though.
You're so fucked up. Every time you try to prove your bullsuit, you come up short. You annoy me and I'm sure anyone who has a grasp on reality.

  66. AND, you are much like Drumpf. Because you say it, it must be so.
    Pathetic.
Please, people, discern who you are getting your information from.

  67. @Mary Lamb-did you used to hang out on a GC gossip site about 5 years ago?

  68. Was thinking Joe Jackson but Culkin is a great guess and someone more people would totally forget about. But on a side note if love more info on how Joe Simpson was a family man and just one day came out of his shell. He even talks and acts totally different. Anyone have any scoop??

  70. @mary lamb, you don't seem triggered, you seem irrationally invested in this gossip item.

I know some CFO's who make about the same as Jamie Spears. I think his job would be full time if not more. I get that he was not a stellar father but he stepped up for his adult children while it seems her mother stepped aside.

  71. When I knew Britney her attorney was Larry Rudolf, ( my attorney was Rudolfs law partner, Steven Beer).
    Her manager was Johnnie Wright.
Her tour manager was my cousin, Kevin Antunes.
Her mother was always around; very involved, although I'm not sure how official her role was.
I was married to Britney's keyboard player, and half of her band was in my band before they toured with her.
    I spent time with Britney.
    She wasn't crazy.
I spent time with Jaimie Lynn.
She was just a little girl. Normal.
Britney's unspooling started right around the time her sister got pregnant. She had suffered the loss of her grandmother in 2001, then she was crushed over the breakup with Timberlake, then she got in with a bad crew,(drugs), etc... If my theory of what happened with Jaime Lynn is correct, I can imagine that would be a real crazy maker for Britney.
Max Martin is the foreign producer.
And I don't care if "Hit Me" is supposed to mean "Hit Me Up"... it's just wrong, and judging by the way they left the "Hit Me" part out of the title; They knew it was sketch AF.

  72. I did think it was Joe Simpson, but nobody's too afraid to stop or report him. Now Joe Jackson on the other hand...that guy inspires Ike Turner levels of fear.
