This permanent A list dual threat actor who has starred in some of the biggest television shows of all time and has starred in some very memorable movies too is near death. He has two caregivers with him all the time and only ventures out in public to visit his doctors.
dick van dyke?
ReplyDeletedick van dyke?
ReplyDeletedick vandyke
ReplyDeletedick van dyke?
ReplyDeletedick van dyke?
ReplyDeleteMel Brooks? Or Carl Reiner?
ReplyDeleteI'm not great on Old Hollywood, but other than The Dick Van Dyke Show, what other biggest television shows of all time has DVD starred it?
ReplyDeleteDiagnosis Murder was one of those shsho that was a huge hit for many years, but never watched by anyone under 60.
DeleteOh yes! Forgot about that.
Delete@Eric - that is not true. I was a tween when I watched it. I occasionally watch the reruns on MeTV.

ReplyDeleteBurt Reynolds
One can only hope its Burt Reynolds. Good riddance, asshole
DeleteSupposedly he’s got a tell all book that’s to be released after he dies. It’s supposed to tell of all the men who made him do sex acts for movie parts when he was just starting out.
DeleteBurt reynolds has been at death's door for past 4 years, but never dies!
DeleteBob Newhart
ReplyDeleteBurt's a good guess as well.
ReplyDeleteMiddle-aged person complaint. It's so damn hard to search social media when every damn body names themselves after celebs. How many Burt Reynolds are necessary. The main one is more than enough. I also hope this blind is't him, not that I want it to be the others named either. So, my guess is James Woods
ReplyDeleteYeah but what television shows was Burt Reynolds ever on, besides guest spots? I'm going to go with Judd Hirsch or Alan Alda.
ReplyDeleteEvening Shade, in the 90s.
DeleteWasn't he on Gunsmoke too?
DeleteWilliam shatner
ReplyDeleteRobert wagner
ReplyDeleteVan Dyke and Alda have been active recently, so no. Is Tim Conway permanent A? (Burnett Show and McHales Navy, plus Disney films)
ReplyDeleteMichael j fox
ReplyDeleteIf it was Michael J. Fox Enty would likely say foreign born. He's from Canada.
DeletePlease dont be michael j fox or bob newheart. Please.
DeleteBob Newhart...is he still alive?
ReplyDeleteYes. He's 88.
DeleteBob Newhart appeared in Elf, Horrible Bosses and Legally Blonde 2. Plus he had the two sitcoms. I think Conway is a great guess but not sure his films were as memorable. Either it's sad for whomever it is.
DeleteTim Conway is perm A List to me. The Carol Burnett show (syndicated reruns, of course) was one of my biggest influences as a child that made me want to be an actor. Every episode was amazing and new and hilarious, especially when they made each other break character and showed it's ok to not be perfect, and enjoy not being perfect. Tim Conway, and all of the main cast are perm A List to me. And Tim was Dorf, for goodness sakes. How is that alone not worthy of legend status.
ReplyDeleteI'm just reminiscing now because thinking about any of the greats passing is sad.
Agreed. I will have to take time off from work when Mel Brooks passes.
Delete@cheese and Don Agreed on Tim Conway, and I’m not prepared to even think about Mel Brooks no longer being with us. I’m still unwilling to fully wrap my mind around the loss of Gene Wilder.
DeleteLosing the remaining Pythons will likewise be a punch to the gut. Brooks and MP shaped my early sense of humor. It’s served me well ever since.
Dan August was Burt Reynolds tv show. He also was on Gunsmoke a lot.
ReplyDeleteBob Newhart would be my guess.
ReplyDeleteBurt Reynolds
ReplyDeleteShatner still books appearances. Conway was unable to make it to Carol Burnett's 50th anniversary special a couple months ago, so may be a good guess. But "some of the biggest shows"? Other than Carol Burnett -Mama's Family & McHales Navy? Enty has had Burt Reynolds at death's door for quite a while.
ReplyDeleteSadly there's not that many old Hollywood folks around.
ReplyDeleteKirk Douglas?
ReplyDeleteIt could also be Newhart because he won several grammys for comedy albums, as for the dual-threat.
ReplyDeletecant believe he was in his mid-50s when the Bob Newheart show debuted, and hit fame. Always thought he was younger
I'm (sadly) jumping on the Bob Newheart bandwagon...
ReplyDeleteHe's one celebrity I wish was immortal
I agree. Never heard a bad word about him and I hope I never do.
DeleteWouldn't a dual threat be acting and singing, not movies and tv?
ReplyDeleteDuel threat in Enty-speak is TV and movies.
Deletethis really could be any of them, they're all getting up there in age.
ReplyDeleteNot Alan Alda.
ReplyDeleteHe is still active, and doing a public speaking/ workshop thing at UC Davis.
And commercials with other tv doctors.
DeleteI hope whoever this is, is also the one who gets the 'massage therapy' I'd like that think they get a ray of sunshine or Susie sunshine (if preferred )
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's Bob Newhart. He has been pretty active on Facebook. His posts on his beloved Cubs are great.
ReplyDeleteI meant to add, Bob Newhart is still touring as of the end of January!
ReplyDeleteThat's good news!
ReplyDeleteDiogenes of Sinope. He was in some of the original Aristophanes productions, and is a noted philosopher. But it would probably say foreign-born, so maybe not.
ReplyDeleteNow that's old school.
DeleteNOT Dick Van Dyke. Peeple who are active don't linger waiting to die. Active people just drop.
ReplyDeleteDVD has always been active as a dancer. Someone else.
Not Reynolds because he was THE biggest movie star in the 70s so the wording of this doesn't go. Some of the other guesses make sense. Very sad.
ReplyDeleteWhat about Clint Eastwood? He started out in TV on Rawhide and is certainly a dual threat as an actor/director.
ReplyDeleteEastwood is def mostly movie actor.
DeleteI haven't seen Bob Newhart in public in a long, long time.
ReplyDeleteIt can't be William Shatner, he's still doing that goofy TV show where he travels around the world with those other old guys, and he still does SciFi convention appearances.
Christopher Loyd maybe? I hope not tho :/ He is suppose to be on the new Roseanne reboot i think.
ReplyDeleteI have Burt Reynolds in a 2018 celebrity death pool so I hope it's him.
ReplyDeleteWell, Carol B. did say that Conway wasn't able to appear on her 50th anniversary special because he was "under the weather."
ReplyDeleteI don't ever want to hear anything bad about Bob Newhart. :(
ReplyDeleteI love that The Big Bang Theory uses Bob Newhart occasionally , I don't know when his recent work was though on the show . Burt Reynolds just did a recent interview with someone and is looking pretty bad but still alive , hopefully not Tim Conway .
ReplyDeleteDual threat to me would be acting and singing, which would mean Dick van Dyke, who is also a great dancer. He had 2 big TV shows (DVD & Diagnosis Murder) and did well in the movies, (Mary Poppins & Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.) The only thing throwing me off is "some of the biggest tv shows of all time" which to me would indicate more than just 2.
ReplyDeleteI thought Dick Van Dyke
ReplyDeleteI don't think it is dick van dyke. enty surely would have referred to him as triple threat, his PSAs were legendary. I think he is still rolling.. Smokey never got over it and somewhere an Indian cries
ReplyDeleteDick Van Dyke is rehearsing today for a performance with his jazz band: https://www.facebook.com/alauradesign/videos/1752104071515506/
ReplyDeleteBoth Judd Hirsch and Bob Newhart have re-occurring, recent roles on The Big Bang Theory, with Newhart appearing quite often on the hit series.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, he won his only prime time Emmy for TBBT, rather than Newhart or The Bob Newhart Show, which boggles my mind.
Not either of them.
I wonder if this was David Ogden Stiers?
ReplyDeleteJerry Van Dyke
ReplyDeleteMy Mother The Car
The Dick Van Dyke Show
The Ed Sullivan Show
The Judy Garland Show
Coach
Stand Up Comedian famous for preforming at air bases all over the world/Playboy clubs around the country
Guest starred on about 2 dozen shows over the years
Bob Newhart is still doing ok. He is currently touring.
