Your Turn

How old were you when you had your first drink of alcohol. Got drunk?

  1. We had quite a scare last night. Wolfie swallowed some coins, and had to go to the hospital to have his stomach pumped.

When I called his nurse and asked about his condition, she said "No change yet".

  2. 13 - me and a friend got drunk (and later puked) on sloe gin fizzes.

Sober 25 years now. Should have been a warning sign at the early age.

  3. My parents let me sip the foam heads off of beers poured into a glass. They had a party I sipped, I got drunk, I was about 2, and that idea stopped right then.

  4. 14. SPENT the night at my friend Tersesa's house while her parents where in NYC. Raided the Liquor cabinet. Drank every green, yellow and red concoction we could find. Never more sick than the morning after.

  5. 16 after Junior Ring Dance. Got drunk off of 3 vodka lemonades and blacked out. Didn’t drink again until high school graduation parties. College was one big drunken party, though.

  6. 1st drink was a sip of beer as a young child. 1st time drunk was sometime in the 90s. I can't remember exactly when because the 90s was a decade for many many 1st's, including the club kid/circuit party insanity, and most of it is all stuck together as 1 huge confusing memory.

  7. First taste? I used to get a sip from my parents' beers from time to time as a kid. First time drunk? 18, the end of my first year of college.

  8. First taste: we were allowed wine (diluted with ginger ale) with meals since I can remember.
First drunk: 13, my friends parents were away and we made a disgusting concoction from the liquor cabinet.

  9. About 13- a friend and I were babysitting and got into their liquour cabinet.
No one found out, as far as I know so no harm done.
Since then, no one was ever allowed to bring a friend while they babysat MY children, lol.

    That's a VERY late bloomer for a Wisconsinite. :D

  11. First sip at 10, my marine uncle's beer and I spit it out LOL. First time drunk NYE age 14 had no idea rum balls and whiskey shouldn't mix - at a friend's, passed out and barfed in every room of the house. Woke up after midnight and I was on restriction for three months. Marijuana was much less destructive ;)

I was five years old, all the adults were drinking a small glass
of wine with dinner, as most Italians do.
I wanted some as well, but my mom wouldn't give me any.
So, I climbed up on a chair to get a juice glass, fell off with the
glass still in my hand, had to be taken to the ER to get 3 stitches
And have always remembered the incident all my life.
I still like wine occasionally with dinner though I have always
    drank in moderation.
And, have always been very independent and stubborn.

  15. 16.

Massachusetts had just dropped the drinking age to 18 in 1972.

I was with friends and we went to the town's "Package liquor store."
I drew the short straw so I had to 'Go in!'

Behind the counter was a senior in high school who knew I was only 16.

    He asked what I wanted?
    I said a 6 pack of Schlitz!
    He said, '$1.69!'
I dug $2 out of my pocket as he retrieved the beer.

I left with a six pack in a brown paper bag, $0.31 in my pocket and a sh!t eating grin on my face!

    Good times, back then.

  16. Sipped my dad's beer from very young age. Don't remember how old. Had my first real beer the day I graduated high school, two months past turning 18.

  17. I was 10. My parents had some moonshine (no lie, still made, my dad is a country vet and sometimes got paid in goods, not cash). My cousins paid me a dollar to take a swig. It was like drinking hell fire.

My first drunk was in college with Boones Farm (yes, I have sophisticated taste). I drank half a bottle and passed out in a phone booth. Woke up a mess and did not drink again for years.

  18. The first and last time i really drank was when I was 21. It was lame.

  19. Don't remember the first time I tasted alcohol, but i was 15 first time I got drunk. Some kid raided his parents booze cabinet and mixed everything together! I got wasted and missed school the next day.

  20. my parents are immigrants so the whole 21 to drink thing never happened in my house. Starting around 11-12 my parents would allow me 1 drink per event we were at for the whole night. Never got drunk till I started hanging out with friends in high school. Never had the urge to go crazy with it ever. I think because my parents didn't make it so taboo. Now when they found out I was smoking pot, you could have told them I was smoking crack and selling myself, same thing to them LOL.

  21. 15 - at a friend's parents' party. Her dad decided to get me drunk on red wine. I loved it that day but looking back I find it disturbing. My new hobby became getting drunk every weekend on sloe gin fizzes (hi Moose, lol) My dad was alcoholic and I'm lucky to have avoided that, tho I've been stimulant and opioid dependent most of my life. (22 mos. sober today.)

  22. First taste if liquor as a baby...the Irish teething cure. The joke in the house as we got older was the parents would say swish and spit, we'd swallow and say spit what?

Didn't get drunk till I was 18. It took a whole 6pack before I felt tipsey.

  23. First taste of alcohol, 6 weeks old. Poor choices, people!
First memory is slugs of my dad’s beer when he mowed the lawn.
First time drunk, probably 14 or 15. I rarely drink now-just don’t have the taste for it, thank God.

  24. Toddler age - from my (baby) bottle
10 or 11 - brought home in a police car, falling down drunk and puking

The 70's were hard on a kid

  25. Just sayin'....

Gawd, I didn't know if they still made sloe gin, let alone someone still drank it.

Congrats on your 22 months. Keep fighting the good fight!

  26. First started drinking when I was 14 years old and going into pubs (UK minimum legal drinking age is 18.) I dressed older and wore make-up so I could pass for 18. First time drunk was in my 20s at a work do, celebrating our bookstore opening, so free brandy and champagne cocktails were available. I remember being sick in the store's toilet more than once, but I can't remember getting home, and I hate the taste & smell of brandy. Now I hardly drink at all.

  27. I was 15 and my friend & I raided our parents liquor cabinets, taking gin, rum, vodka & mixed them all in a tupperware with diet pepsi. Guzzled it as we walked to our school's Senior Night & we were lit before we even made it up the hill!! My friend had to prop me up, walk me home, & make sure I made it in the house. I had severe hiccups & had to walk past my parents watching TV in the living room. I hiccuped my way past them as my mother commented, "What's the matter, are you drunk or something?" Woke up the next morning & the room was spinning! LOL

  38. 13. My dad was a state senator. Our next door neighbor was in the FBI and his son was a secret serv agent. The agent bought us a case of schlitz beer and we had to promise not to drive anywhere. I don't think I have had schlitz beer since

  41. There is a lot of sloe gin fizz barf in this thread. I must shamefully admit that I, too, got beyondbeyondbeyond shitfaced on them in high school. Unfortunately, that was prior to my first time vomiting from too much alcohol. I’d rather taste barf than another one of those things.

And to whoever had Boone’s Farm Strawberry Fields-that’s what was put in my baby bottle at 6 weeks old. Oh, well, it was the 60’s, so really, my first “taste” of alcohol was as a fetus.

  42. Stole a can of beer at 8 then it was Boones farm and Annie Green Springs my friends older sister got us at 14

I got drunk for the first time when I was 19. I felt really self-conscious because I get the Asian glow and would always feel paranoid about it.

  44. 11 years old. my uncle who loves and supported my crazy single mom dearly wanted to get me away from my everyday existence on my birthday as a very poor kid and took me to see my first hollywoo blockbuster at a mall and took me to one of those chain faux- americana grillhouse after to teach me how to drink beer and be confident as poor slum kid. he bought a pitcher and my aunt went nuts when he brought m home drunk as a priest who moonlighted as a judge.
