This long running movie franchise is making noise by stating a replacement for the long running male character could end up being a woman. They don't mean what they are saying though. It will be a white male again and again. They are kind of like People and all their awards. They talk it but they don't walk it.
James Bond

James Bond
That’s a shame. I would love to see Thandie Newton as Bond
ReplyDeleteLoved her in Westworld, what a bad bitch
DeleteI think Cate Blanchett would slay as Bond.

ReplyDeleteMakes sense that James Bond is a man since James Bond is a man.
ReplyDeleteNobody seemed to have an issue when M became a woman
DeleteJust don't talk it in the first place and nobody gets mad. Well, they probably do, but still.
ReplyDeleteGosh, the lameness of Hollywood and of this decadent Amuhrica... What would be the sense now of making James Bond into a woman? You want to take James Bond down? Invent another character and make it even more famous! Why placing these little turds or draw mustaches on these fading icons of our past culture? What are we waiting for to cut the dick off Michelangelo's David, then?
ReplyDeleteAnd not seeing how ridiculous it is to get women to embody all the ugliness and arrogance and exploitation and narcissism of the very character that one wants to see defaced?
And all of this only because NOW we see things differently? Will we ever learn how everything is relative and everything passes (especially us) because the wheel always spins?
And while we're there, why going to these grotesque extents, just to deface men? Men are just as innocent as women of this alleged inequality (and it is such, maybe because we call it so) that has been going on for hundred of thousands of years, is deeply rooted and founded in biology, is a reflection of many aspects of our very evolution including the way we see art, poetry or humor (cf. The Mating Mind) and is something we are all born into and we feel in our bodies.
The way towards a more emancipated or civilized society, which is certainly welcome given all the scumbags who take advantage of the power they have, men and women, cannot, must not go through demeaning the other half of a duality which is the foundation of most of everything that is alive on this earth, like it or not. It must not and cannot essentially because it's a lost battle that will make everyone unhappy.
I can't believe I have drawn all of this from James Bond whom I care two shits about.
Two words.

ReplyDeleteJames is the name of Ryan Reynolds daughter... James can be a girls name.
ReplyDeletePersonally don't care if James Bond is black, white, Asian, female, male or someone in between - just want rid of Daniel Craig!
I've always thought of James Bond as a Codename, like M, Q, Moneypenny... if the can switch up the ethnicities, genders and ages of those characters I can't see how it would be such a tragedy to have a Bond that wasn't a white male.

DeleteLove your post and have thought the same.
DeleteAlso shout out to the earlier post who mentioned Dr. Who who have been great at changing up casting.
Is there a reason people can't create new shit? Why do people have a need to replace icons? It makes for terrible entertainment and sends the message to everyone that you don't believe women can carry anything on their own and need the cover of previous successful male franchises.
ReplyDeletePersonally don't care if James Bond is black, white, Asian, female, male or someone in between -
ReplyDeleteJames Bond is white, male and English. End of story.
I'm still holding out for Idris Elba.
ReplyDeleteHasn't "James Bond" 'Jumped the Shark?'
ReplyDeleteIt should because the last few have been crap -- IMAO!
And, I was a huge 'Bond, James Bond' fan.
End of story, Andrew? Weren't a couple of 007s Irish and Australian? Aiden Turner would be a good choice, and I believe he's Irish.
ReplyDeleteIf I was the producer, Tom Hardy, Aidan Turner, and Nicholas Hoult would be my top three screen test choices off the top.
ReplyDeleteEveryone (but mine) favourite Bond- and the one Fleming knew (of) - was Scottish. End of.
ReplyDeleteWhy not stick a “FACT”and “simples” on as well and you’d have the full Daily Mail trinity of stupid exclamations?
I think Andrew's use of the identifier "English" was intended to mean from the UK. That's how I interpreted it anyways.
ReplyDeleteYeah, a scot should be Bond.
ReplyDeleteRose Leslie could say "You knorr nuffin, Ernst Blofeld!".
Kit as Moneypenny.
(simples)
I'm all for Tilda Swinton as James Bond. That would be so awesome. Of course Idris Elba wouldn't be bad either. But Tilda would be quite something.
ReplyDeleteCome up with something new and awesome and authentically female.
ReplyDeleteWHY IS THAT DIFFICULT?
Stop trying to repurpose old characters and turn them into something else. This is (one of) the problems with Hollywood now - no original ideas.
How about a Scottish woman? Kelly McDonald?
ReplyDeleteJames Bond should identify as a Apache Helicopter.
ReplyDeleteJames Bond is a man, and his arch-nemesis' are everything under the sun! That's where Gender, Race, Creed, Color are all systems go, but James is a White, English Male...
ReplyDeleteIdris Elba tells you he's wonderful and you believe him. I do not.
Hollywood does this because they've realized that you can get away with just giving women something that a man owned previously and it quiets them down. And women don't ask for better, so why bother?
ReplyDeleteWhy would you go through the trouble of giving a woman something that is uniquely theirs when you can just give them a hand-me-down from a man and they're just as happy?
Didn't James Bond have dark hair? Funny Craigs is blond. So basically thay can turn Bond into what they want. None of you who are saying he's a white, English male don't have to go see it. I would love Idris or Chad Boseman.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was watching Hitman: Agent 43 recently, I kept saying Rupert Friend 007. He would be fantastic. He's much taller than Daniel Craig. I think he's 6' or more. He has an incredibly chiseled face. In top form. Not a lot of private baggage that I know of. Has Enty ever had a blind about him? Maybe when he was with Kiera Knightly. Rupert Friend should definitely be on the short list.
ReplyDeleteToo bad. I'd like to see a broad in the role to kill the franchise, like they did with Ghostbusters. I watched a Timothy Dalton one once, but other than that, i stick to Roger Moore and Sean Connery.
ReplyDeleteAt this moment in time, I’d take Andy Pandy if it meant Craig was gone
ReplyDeleteI personally would love for Idris to be Bond and have it spread out to new geo-political arenas. Africa is so ripe for plot, instead of the same old Russian mafia / mental megalomaniac tropes, which have been done better in the past.
I don’t have an issue with a female Bond per se, but women have a different way of spying, and I just couldn’t see a female Bond leveling half of Moscow by “escaping” in a commandeered tank a la the best Bond (FACT!... LOL, couldn’t resist).
We watch Bond for the whizz-bangery, not for realism or a satisfying spy thriller.
But Barbara Broccoli needs to do something with the franchise, FAST.
They made a female Bond movie and it was called "Atomic Blonde" and it was pretty good and not a ton of people went to see it.
ReplyDeleteThe recent uncreative trend to slap a different sex on an iconic character instead of creating an interesting new character is off-putting, cynical and culturally subversive. People flipped out when ScarJo became the Ghost in the Shell, and rightly so; James Bond does not need to be reinvented, particularly when a striking espionage film with a hard-boiled movie star heroine did not do 12% of the last Bond film's global B.O.
Instead of making Bond a woman, create a new character with a new back story. I'm sure they could make another double O agent.
ReplyDeleteForget a female Bond. Give me a Black Widow movie instead.
ReplyDeletei'm SHOCKED (I'm not)
ReplyDeleteThe dumbshits that think there should be a woman 'James Bond' don't go to Bond movies and wouldn't even if there was a woman Bond so why would the producers even consider it.
ReplyDeleteWhy not "James Bond:Transition"..first,announce the new JB will be Gilbert Gottfried...there will be wailing, gnashing of teeth, and hair pulling(during casting anyway). But in the first part of the movie,GG´s intensity, witty one liners ,and prowess with women will actually spur oscar talk. And you KNOW GG has an oscar in him(not sayin´how it got there..thats for another blind)..the second part GG's Bond announces he identifies as a woman..everyone laughs ..yeah right..the third and final act Gal Gadot comes out as the transitioned Bond(with Gilberts voice, just tuned up a few octaves)..im telling you,Oscars,Globes, and cike for eveeryone!
ReplyDeleteCoke!dingdangit
DeleteThe world isn't ready to accept a female James Bond... More brainwashing is required. #equality
ReplyDeleteThe next Bond will more than likely be Hiddleston unless he does something really stupid to screw it up. I wish it would be Idris too, but apparently the family (Cubby Broccoli's family, not Fleming's) don't want him and think he's too old or something stupid like that. Admittedly, that's info from a conversation that took place in 2016 and it could be out of date by now.
ReplyDeleteWhy not William Hung?
ReplyDeleteThe more Hollywood tries to ram political correctness down the publics' throats, the harder they will be rejected. People watch movies to be entertained, not to be lectured by rapists and pedos and whores about their newest pet activisms.
ReplyDeleteFun fact, christopher lee was one of the real life inspirations for bond since it was written by his cousin ian flemming. Lee was a WW2 secret agent. He wanted the part but only got to play a villain once.
ReplyDeleteThe blind is bullshit anyway.
ReplyDeleteBarbara Broccoli gets asked almost every time she's at a press junket or a press conference whether they would make the next Bond a woman or a person of color. There's always a liberal reporter to ask this question. And she always give diplomatic answers.
Would Elba make a good Bond? Sure, but we have Daniel for the time being, and he's the best for the part.
Would another POC work? Definitely, we won't rebuke anyone.
Etc.
Rightfully, few newspapers or website quote her on this, because these are among the lame questions she gets asked every time. But some idiot website, three weeks after the event, listens to her words, thinks this is a huge scoop, and publishes a piece about it.
It isn't.
So, why address these pointless claims?
