This Oscar nominate/winning A list director has had very few bombs in his career. Not so long ago though he had a huge bomb. I actually think if it was released within the past week or two it would have done much much better. I also think what would have made it do better is if the director had not spent so much time trying to have sex with one of the actors in the movie. It was just a constant, never ending wearing down of the actor until he finally gave in. From that point on, he continued to give in rather than listen to more of the pleading.
Gus Van Zant?
ReplyDeleteSpielberg and Rylance. Just for the hell of it.
ReplyDeleteI want this to be Darren Aronofsky so bad😣
ReplyDeleteRob Marshall ("9" being the bomb)
ReplyDeleteSteven Soderbergh - Logan Lucky. Hard to figure which actor.
ReplyDeleteIf Logan Lucky then Channing Tatum? (please not Adam Driver...)
ReplyDeleteSoderbergh is on his 2nd wife (married for 15 years) and has two kids.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Todd Haynes/Wonderstruck-Cory Michael Williams (the actor?)
ReplyDeleteCory Michael Smith! Sorry just retreading thread and I never corrected his name....
DeleteI like Tricia13's guess. I'm going to say Director: Gus Van Sant, Movie: The Sea of Trees (It's about the suicide forest that was just all over the news because of that youtube kid), actor: Jordan Gavaris.
ReplyDeleteWith Matt Mc as the guy? I thought so too but he doesn’t seem like he would acquiesce to anyone.... also Gus likes younger guys/boys. Trust.
DeleteI heard that, too, Tricia. I dated a guy who lived in Portland and he said everyone knew he used to pick up young homeless boys to “help” them but it was really so he could do what he wanted to them.
DeleteElle Kaye- My Own Private Idaho was autobiographical (semi)....and yep:(
DeleteMet him one time in LA at the Sunset 5 and he was on a date with a 15 year old. No exaggeration.
DeleteI think I took a bleach shower that night and watched Bambi on loop or something
@The Heiress Good catch on the obscure clue!
DeleteThat's great, Moose, but none of that doesn't mean he doesn't want to have sex with men. Not saying it's Soderbergh, but a wife and kids don't mean he's not chasing man-booty.
ReplyDeleteSo many films 'bomb' that this is a hard one to even guess.
ReplyDeleteSounds like Gus Van Sant. Cant really think of many A list directors with recent bombs....Unless Scorsese has started doing stuff.
ReplyDeleteI had to Google him. He's American just with a very Dutch-sounding name.
DeleteIf Soderbergh, I think The Girlfriend Experience would be the movie according to the would have done better if released within the past few weeks part of the blind.
ReplyDeleteThe IMDB summary is "A drama set in the days leading up to the 2008 Presidential election, and centered on a high-end Manhattan call girl meeting the challenges of her boyfriend, her clients, and her work."
Jordan Gavaris in Sea of Trees
ReplyDeleteang lee and tay swifts bf
ReplyDeletei think van sant has had a lot of bombs. remember even cowgirls get the blues? also, sea of trees was panned universally, i don't think being released a year or two later would have made a difference regardless of relevancy.
ReplyDeleteThis Blind Item Revealed back in 2016 confirms McConaughey / Gus Van Sant
ReplyDeletehttp://www.crazydaysandnights.net/2016/02/blind-items-revealed-3_23.html
Bravo! @Steve
DeleteVan Sant, the movie Sea of Trees would have been more relevant today because of the Logan Paul stuff
ReplyDeleteLogan Lucky should have found an audience; it was really good.
ReplyDeleteI defer to the other guesses. Haynes seems to fit the clues the best.
I don’t think of Gus Van Sant as having very few bombs in his career. Maybe among his bigger studio films, but he has also made many smaller, more minor films.
ReplyDeleteThe first person who came to mind for me was Alexander Payne. Downsizing was an unusual disappointment for him. I think it got lost among the Christmas releases and could possibly have done better had it been released now.
However, I’ve never heard a word about Payne being gay, and I doubt he slept with Matt Damon! (Neil Patrick Harris?)
This is my first post but—as always in my mind—I defer to Tricia.
Enty's recycling an old BI but I doubt if McConaughey ever gave in to him. Gus is repulsive.
ReplyDeleteThis blog has been occupied by The Professionals.
ReplyDeleteAng Lee's movie with Taylor's fake bf would be a bomb at any time
ReplyDeleteI like the Gus Van Sant guess, and the movie, but I'll go for a younger actor - Jordan Gavaris.
