Blind Item #2

There is a big fight going on right now between the members of this one named band who play a lot of easy to listen, never offensive music with a string of hits and big selling records. They are in the midst of the tour and the lead singer has threatened to walk. He says he is the band and the rest are just musicians so they need to give him 75% of the earnings of the group.

  3. I agree with Tricia - Coldplay.

Not surprised that his ego is as inflated as Goop's.

  4. Eagles are on tour right now. Chris Martin always splits everything evenly and his band members also sing some songs in the concert.

  8. My first thought was the Eagles and Don Henley but they don't tour till March

  9. Foreigner? Although, I doubt they'd be around this long and the lead singer would pull such a douche move.

    1. Lou Gramm had a stroke and doesn't your with them anymore. The guitarist wrote most of the songs anyway.

    2. @joshg g: Lou Gramm had a brain tumor, not a stroke. I remember him talking about it on Vh1's Behind the Music. He did not know it had been growing in his head since childhood. Doctors sent him home to die. He found out about a new treatment option when he watched a news show by chance. He looks nothing like himself and can't sing the way he used to due to all the medication he still has to take.

Here is another source of information: http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2013/05/15/foreigner-singer-lou-gramm-explains-how-drugs-and-brain-tumor-nearly-killed-him.html

  10. If it is the Eagles with Don Henley, I wonder what is going to happen when the wife of a Republican California Politician finally comes forward about the night he abused her and another underage sex worker. Enty claims she had the Polaroids and has been building a case behind the scenes.

  11. Peter Cetera - Chicago?

    ReplyDelete
  12. @Feisty maybe that is why Don needs the cash, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Ha! NOT Foreigner. If they said lead guitarist, I might could see it. Mick Jones IS the band. They could get a new singer (again).

    ReplyDelete
  14. Don Henley isn't the only lead singer of The Eagles. Joe Walsh, Deacon Frey and Vince Gill all do lead vocals. Plus, it's The Eagles, so two-word band.

  15. Journey is touring.

  16. This is a trick blind. This is 90% of mainstream bands

    ReplyDelete
  17. Not a lot of bands touring right now. They tend to do spring and summer.
If dates are announced and tickets on sale, does that count as "in the midst"? If so, my guess is TRAIN. Inoffensive is the kindest way to describe their music.
    Otherwise...

STYX is currently on tour. So I guess STYX.

  20. It was never "The" Eagles. Glenn Frey just wanted them called Eagles. It's in the Documentary and old interviews. As far as the lawsuit goes with Don Henley, she's got the pictures, everything she needs, the time is right, what's the deal..? I don't care who you're married to, if you've got the answers to a poor girl's murder, put on your big girl pants and get it done.

    Nigel Tufnel. Spinal Tap.

  22. Great job by everyone who didn't bother to check if the band was touring before posting.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Henley isn't "The Eagles," so he would have to be awfully full of himself to think that. To the kind of long-time fans who would want to go see them today, Joe Walsh is pretty important too, and Timothy B. Schmit isn't a nobody.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I agree that this is common. Didn't Kurt Cobain pull the same stunt with his Nirvana bandmates?

No, I'm not suggesting Nirvana as the answer to the blind.

    1. I've heard that, and that it was at Courtney Love's behest. As big of a Nirvana fan as I am, I believe it and I also think it was somewhat warranted considering how responsible he was for their sound and success.

    2. Had he lived, they would have faded away, fell apart, imploded, whatever. His death made him a legend. When he was alive, he was a hot mess, with a big mouth, who just pissed people off left and right. Sorry, unpopular view, but it's mine.

  26. @Nutty: yes, Cobain did this to Grohl and Novoselic. I thought then, and now, that this was a shitty move on his part. But in the end, Cobain's death was the best thing that happened to Grohl.

  27. Cetera isn't part of Chicago currently. (Hasn't really been since "16" I don't think.)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Peter Cetera isn't even in Chicago anymore.

And Don Henley is my least favorite Eagle.

Most bands posted so far are not CURRENTLY touring, and of the ones who are, none have the original/ iconic singer.

I'm sticking with Styx because they do still have Tommy Shaw, but I don't think it's cracked yet.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Eagles are already touring. It would fit if Henley has a clue about the other shoe dropping soon, but I don't see him doing this, especially not with Vince Gill on board. I also can't see him doing this to Joe Walsh or Glenn Frey's son.

  32. I just feel like if this was the Eagles, they would have been described VERY differently. Same with Coldplay or U2.

This sounds like a band that doesn't probably get a lot of blinds.

I could absolutely see Henley doing that, even when the rest of the band is better than he is. But this isn't them.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I absolutely loathe Coldplay, but my son has met Chris Martin a number of times and says he is a really nice guy. (My son is more of a Migos guy so it's not fan worship.) Not him.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I don't think the rest of the band is better than Henley as far as music. (Though Joe is fantastic). But I do think they are better human beings than Henley.

  35. Having had interactions with Dennis DeYoung, knowing what an egomaniac he is, knowing his behavior in the past...if Styx is touring, I can totally believe this is him.

  37. I saw Coldplay in concert and Chris Martin was really gracious to the band and involved them a lot in the show. Eagles don’t really have a lead singer so I’m going with Journey.

  38. @Unknown Uh, Grohl was the drummer, Cobain sang and wrote. Let Grohl have Foo Fighters and Cobain Nirvana.

  44. All I can think of is Queen, Toto, Yes, or Genesis. Right now my guess is Queen.

    1. Cetera got kicked out of Chicago in the 80s.

    2. Coldplay has not started their tour yet.

    3. I don't know if Phil Collins is touring with Genesis.

    4. I THINK Yes and Toto are touring. I don't know of any offensive songs.

    5. Queen has not been playing to a full house. I saw them last summer and there were a LOT of empty seats. Shame, because it was AWESOME! Brian & Roger are the only original members touring. Adam Lambert sang "Two Fux". The rest of the songs were Queen. Compared to everyone else Brian May wrote or co-wrote most of the lyrics and music. Queen has been known to argue over song writing credits and whose song goes on an album. According to Sascha Cohen one of them said the best part of the Queen movie is when Freddie dies.

  47. Henley and Frey always thought they were the only members of the band that counted, and treated the other members very shabbily, especially Don Felder. With Frey gone, I wouldn't doubt that Henley still thinks of himself as superior to his bandmates.

  50. I think this is totally the Eagles. The "never offensive" music, the string of hits. I have read articles recently that discussed the personal dynamics in the band, and Don Henley definitely thinks he's the boss of them. I don't have links to the articles I'm talking about, unfortunately.

I remember one quote from Glenn Frey, who seemed like an all-around nice guy. RIP. He said that "without Don [Henley], we would be Air Supply."

    ReplyDelete
  51. Idk
I'm reverting back to my original original guess.
I think Enty is fudging the details a bit (re: dates) and this is TRAIN.
Pat Monahan is the only original member left, and the only one with name recognition. So he can say he IS the band.

    ReplyDelete
  52. What about Weezer? They’re touring and they’ve stuck to mainstream appeal since their few departures weren’t as popular (though many argue they were better...).

    ReplyDelete
  53. To be fair, Henley is the most strongly identified with the Eagles after Glenn and he and Frey have done a lot of/the majority of the legwork to keep the name/legacy going. Joe is Joe and has his own audience and would do fine with or without the Eagles. Timothy I think is more dependent on the Eagles name. If Henley decided tomorrow he would no longer play with the Eagles, I believe that would be it.

  54. This made me snort in derision - it's already this way in Bon Jovi, Inc. Jon is the signed artist, and the band are his employees. Richie Sambora was right to GTFO when Jon pulled his primadonna diva act.

  55. Please let this be Coldplay! Dear God they're the soccer of music...they put me to sleep before they hit their third lyric in any song they do. Chris Martin has a beautiful voice but good God he is boring!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Train - interesting guess!

As boring as Coldplay is, one reason they have stuck together and toured is because Chris Martin is generous with the money and the praise of other band members, I hear.

It seems like the only band following the same template is Green Day - share and we all win.

    1. Agreed with Train. They are touring with Hall and Oats.

  58. you know nothing about the eagles if you think this is them.

and FYI, don and glenn pretty much wrote everything that band sang. they chose the rest of the band members . they did NOT treat don felder badly. he was a complete asshole and thought he was an equal in a band that was never a democracy, and never claimed or wanted to be a democracy. it was don and glenn's band. period. felder couldn't handle that.

this tour is very sentimental for them because glenn's son will be replacing him. no way don henley is pitching a big fit over money. this tour is for glenn.

  60. If it were the Eagles, the blind would read something like: "This permanent A list singer/ scumbag in a permanent A list band..."
If it were Coldplay: "This A list singer who apparently has the ego of his A list ex...."

    ReplyDelete
  61. Anonymous12:05 PM

Genesis is not a band at the moment. There has been speculation of a reunion, but nothing solid. Phil is touring solo.

Maroon 5's tour doesn't start until May.

Not Styx, they've had a hired singer for years.

Not Journey, Arnell is a hired singer.

The band in the blind is on tour RIGHT NOW. The Eagles are not on tour for two months. NOT THE FUCKING EAGLES.

No WAY Bono would get away with saying he's the band, the Edge would shove every guitar he owns up Bono's ass.

If Adam Lambert is dumb enough to think he's more about Queen than him and Roger...hoo, boy. I don't think it's him.

Weezer...could be. Be sad if it is.

My guess is Nickleback. Currently on tour, and that douchebag singer I could definitely see pulling a douchebag move like this.

    1. @Unknown- Hi! I was saying Brian May is the one making the diva comments, not Adam Lambert. I have seen them in concert and I can tell you Adam knows who butters his bread. I do not know who the subject of the blind is but I would not be surprised if it was revealed to be Brian May.

I recommend everyone see Queen in concert. They all sound better in person and the Red Special sounds amazing! Unless you do not like their music you will not be disappointed.

      Delete
  62. It's not Coldplay or U2- they share within the group and it's kept them happy for years. Not only would Edge take a swing but Larry Mullen would flatten him.

I like the Nickelback guess a lot. Y'all are so smart!

    ReplyDelete
  63. I saw Styx perform on Dec 30th. They did a concert for the military here in town. I was stagefront, because I always am at concerts. Who would you be talking about? there are more than 1 singers in Styx, Tommy Shaw sings, but the main singer would be Lawrence Gowan, he does sing the majority of the songs, then you have James Young, who sings. So I do not believe any of them would think they "are" the band.

    ReplyDelete
  64. This is not Coldplay, their tour is jst finished and those boys are like family.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I know I have the advantage of reading everyone else's guesses first, but so far I think Train is the best fit

    ReplyDelete
  66. I think it's Chicago but the singer is Robert Lamm. He's the keyboardist but also does vocals and he's the last remaining original member who does vocals. Lee, James and Walter are strictly horns. Chicago is currently on tour.

    ReplyDelete
  67. @Unknown,
I was actually trying to make Nickelback fit, but couldn't find tour dates. If that's the case, then +1000 to Enty for calling them inoffensive because that is awesome trolling. Everyone *HATES* Nickelback. But Chad is right, he could tour with a different set of musicians and nobody would know the difference.

If Nickelback is touring now, they are 100% my answer. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

    ReplyDelete
  68. Chris Martin was HILARIOUS on Modern Family.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Ugh, AGC listed Train and Nickelback as possible answers to this blind. Unless Enty is trolling, there is no way you can call Nickelback as never offensive. Trying running the lyrics to Animals, Figured You Out, or Something in Your Mouth by the local church group and see if they consider it unoffensive. I don't have a problem with the songs but just saying

    ReplyDelete
  70. @Lurky
Do I remember reading at some point that Enty has a soft spot for Avril Lavigne? Then he would definitely hate her ex. He's trolling Chad/ Nickelback so hard with that description.

    ReplyDelete
  71. "His death made him a legend"

In case you are talking about Kurt Cobain, you would be wrong. Nirvana would be a legendary band, whether Cobain lived or died. They are pivotal. Nirvana lit fires under the music industry that it took 15 years to put out. Finally now the music industry is at the point where they can continue putting out mediocre manufactured product for the masses and labeling it genius, as they were poised to do in the late 80s, oh they had it all figured out, before Nirvana and NWA smashed their template. The industry won't let that happen again.
