John Heard, the actor who portrayed Kevin McAllister's father in a pair of Home Alone films, has died at the age of 72. The Santa Clara Medical Examiner’s office confirmed Heard's death, Variety reports. TMZ adds that the actor was found dead in his Palo Alto, California hotel room, just days after Heard underwent minor back surgery, his rep said.
An Obie Award-winning actor before he came to Hollywood, Heard broke out in the late Seventies thanks to his role in Chilly Scenes of Winter, which was followed by starring roles in 1980's Heart Beat, where he portrayed Jack Kerouac, and 1981's Cutter's Way, with Heard delivering a remarkable turn as a conspiracy-minded Vietnam vet. Essentially ignored upon release, the film has since earned a reputation as a forgotten classic.
The early Eighties also found Heard in prominent roles in films like C.H.U.D., Cat People and Martin Scorsese's After Hours, where the actor played a seemingly sympathetic bartender. Toward the end of the decade, Heard found his niche giving depth to supporting roles, whether as Tom Hanks' nemesis in Big or Bette Midler's husband in Beaches.
However, Heard will be remembered as Macaulay Culkin's father Peter McCallister in the 1990 smash Home Alone and its 1992 sequel Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
"At the time, we didn’t know the movie was funny," Heard said of the role to Baltimore Media Blog. "We were playing the parents who lost their kid, so we didn’t how funny-stupid we could be."
Thanks to the success of the film, Heard would be referred to on the street as "Home Alone Dad," even though the actor's résumé logged dozens of TV and film credits over the ensuing decades, including roles in My Fellow Americans, Awakenings, In the Line of Fire, Pelican Brief, Pollock, Sharknado and an Emmy-nominated reoccurring role as a duplicitous detective on The Sopranos. Most recently, Heard appeared on the Fox police drama APB, although the actor was set to appear in the film Last Rampage that's due out in September.

A former Miss USA contestant from Kentucky is facing arraignment next week after being accused of sneaking drugs to an inmate inside an Ohio prison.
Kia Hampton, 28, of Louisville, Kentucky, was arrested May 26 in Allen County, Ohio, after she was caught smuggling marijuana into the Allen Correctional Institution for inmate Jeremy Kelly, according to an affidavit detailing the arrest, the Courier-Journal reported.
A grand jury indicted Hampton earlier this month on a third-degree felony charge of bringing drugs onto government facility grounds, which carries a maximum three-year prison sentence upon conviction.
Hampton was served a search warrant upon arriving at the prison May 26 for an inmate visit.
While listening to previously recorded phone calls, officers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol said they obtained enough evidence to obtain a warrant for a cavity search.
As she was questioned by officers, Hampton reached into a pant leg and pushed a white balloon onto the floor, according to the affidavit.
It was later determined that she was carrying nearly 3 grams of marijuana, Assistant Allen County Prosecutor Kenneth Sturgill told the Courier-Journal.
Hampton was indicted July 13 by an Allen County grand jury and faces one count of "illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse onto the grounds of a specified governmental facility" and is scheduled to be arraigned July 26.
Hampton was crowned Miss Kentucky USA in November 2010 when she was just 21.
A Minneapolis man and former musician with the band Owl City has pleaded guilty in New Jersey to lewdness with a child.
Thirty-two-year-old Daniel Jorgensen admitted he exposed himself to the girl, who was under 13, in Atlantic City in August 2013. He was initially charged with attempting to lure the child and engaging in criminal sexual contact with the girl on the Atlantic City beach.
A judge sentenced Jorgensen to serve two years' probation in Minneapolis.

That rejection cost her a bunch of scene reductions. The next time she turned him down her personal appearance offers begin to dry up and she was even in fewer scenes. Meanwhile, the producer found someone else to sleep with who was also legal but loved to roleplay super young. She was getting the good lines and scenes. She was being offered crossover opportunities and new shows were being developed for her. The producer also started pitting the cast against our actress. If you wanted your career to succeed you took the side of the producer. If you wanted it to fail, you took her side. The producer started spreading lies about our actress. He did so regularly. When the show finally ended there was no one out there who was willing to hire her because of all the stories the producer had been spreading. So, when she did get work and asked for anything or was a few minutes late from lunch or whatever, the stories would start again and getting work even harder. The only work she really can get at this point are product endorsement deals and doing work for companies. No one wants to hire her for acting. No one wants her for pretty much anything. She says that even though her career has gone into the tank because she wouldn't sleep with the producer, she doesn't regret her decision. She points to another actress of a show he produced. That actress slept with the producer and his friends and it didn't help her career at all. She is hoping that people will start to pressure the producer to let up on the comments and that other producers will give her a chance. She just wants to work.

Paul Nicholls, a British actor who starred in the EastEnders soap opera, was stranded for three days on a Thai island after he fell down a waterfall and broke his kneecap, a rescuer said Thursday.
Nicholls was rescued July 13 on the Thai resort island of Koh Samui after villagers noticed his rented motorcycle had been parked near the waterfall for days.

An impending auction of pop star Madonna's personal items, including a love letter from her ex-boyfriend the late rapper Tupac Shakur, a pair of previously worn undergarments and a hairbrush containing her hair, was halted by a judge on Tuesday.
Manhattan state Supreme Court Judge Gerald Leibovitz ordered Gotta Have It! Collectibles to pull 22 items from its rock-and-roll-themed auction scheduled for Wednesday.
The Material Girl had earlier sought an emergency court order saying she was "shocked to learn" of the planned online auction of the Tupac letter and had no idea it was no longer in her possession.
"The fact that I have attained celebrity status as a result of success in my career does not obviate my right to maintain my privacy, including with regard to highly personal items," Madonna said in court papers. "I understand that my DNA could be extracted from a piece of my hair. It is outrageous and grossly offensive that my DNA could be auctioned for sale to the general public."
Court papers said the Tupac letter was expected to fetch up to $400,000. Tupac, one of the best-selling rappers of all time, dated Madonna in the early 1990s and died of injuries suffered in a Las Vegas drive-by shooting in 1996.
Madonna, behind such hit songs as "Like a Virgin" and "Vogue," has sold hundreds of millions of albums. Other Madonna items scheduled to be auctioned were private photographs taken at a bachelorette party at her Miami home, personal letters and cassette tapes of unreleased recordings.
Madonna's court papers name Darlene Lutz, a former friend, art consultant and "frequent overnight guest" in Madonna's home when she was "not in residence," as behind the sale of the property.
A spokesman for Lutz and the auction house said the allegations will be "vigorously challenged and refuted" in court.
"Madonna and her legal army have taken what we believe to be completely baseless and meritless action to temporarily halt the sale of Ms. Lutz's legal property," spokesman Pete Siegel told the New York Post. "We are confident that the Madonna memorabilia will be back."

Everywhere I go I am followed by people screaming at me, paparazzi are scum suckers, they are the worst people in the world. It might seem like I am being harsh, but when you are tired or scared and you have a thousand cameras in your face and people demanding that you look at them and answer their questions, it hurts.

A Georgia jury has ruled in favor of Sarah Jones’ family in its civil suit against CSX Transportation in connection with the camera assistant’s 2014 death and awarded them $11.2 million.
The state court jury in Savannah, Ga., decided unanimously to award the family nearly $2 million for pain and suffering and $9.2 million for the economic loss from Sarah Jones’ life, according a spokeswoman for the attorneys for the family. The jury also assigned CSX 35% of the fault.
Jones was killed and six others were injured on the set of “Midnight Rider” outside Doctortown, Ga., on a railroad trestle above the Altamaha River after a train came down the tracks at 58 mph during production. The crew had less than one minute to evacuate the location and the train ran into a metal bed being used by the crew for a scene that was part of a dream sequence in the Gregg Allman biopic. Jones was struck by shrapnel that propelled her toward the moving train.
Jones’ family sued CSX, alleging that the railroad did not follow company policy. Filmmaker Randall Miller settled with the family in late 2014 and spent a year in jail after pleading guilty to felony involuntary manslaughter and criminal trespass.
The production company did not secure a permit from the owner of the tracks, CSX Transportation Corp. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration issued nearly $75,000 in safety fines. An appeals panel upheld the sanctions after they were challenged by Film Allman, the company that Miller and his wife, Jody Savin, set up to make the independent feature.
R. Kelly is being accused of holding women in a "cult" where he dictates everything from what they can wear and eat to their sexual behavior and controls any communication they have with the outside world, according to a Buzzfeed report on Monday.
Buzzfeed claims the R&B singer, who has homes near Chicago and Atlanta, houses up to six women.
A lawyer for the rapper denied the report telling TMZ, "Mr. Robert Kelly is both alarmed and disturbed at the recent revelations attributed to him. Mr. Kelly unequivocally denies such allegations and will work diligently and forcibly to pursue his accusers and clear his name."
Three people who say they used to be a part of Kelly’s entourage -- Cheryl Mack, Kitti Jones, and Asante McGee -- gave information on Kelly’s alleged lifestyle.
Mack told Buzzfeed that Kelly runs every aspect of these women’s lives.
"No. You have to ask for food. You have to ask to go use the bathroom… a master at mind control. ... He is a puppet master,” said Mack.
According to Mack, Jones and McGee, there was a 31-year-old “den mother” who recently vacated Kelly's residence. The women claim there is currently a 25-year-old woman, a 19-year-old model, a 26-year-old aspiring singer and an 18-year-old singer living with the R&B artist.
The mom of one of the women, who was not identified, spoke to Buzzfeed and claimed that her daughter was 19 when she met the now 50-year-old star in 2015. She hoped Kelly would help her daughter’s singing career. Instead, she alleges her daughter moved into the recording artist’s home. Soon after, the mother claims her daughter's contact with her parents dwindled to include only two vague texts -- on Christmas and Mother’s Day.
The mother told Buzzfeed she has not seen her daughter since Dec. 1, 2016.
The texts allegedly read, “I hate Christmas has to be this way this year,” and “Happy Mother’s Day from me and Rob.”
The mom, whom Buzzfeed identified only by the initial J., described the last time she saw her child.
“It was as if she was brainwashed. [She] looked like a prisoner. It was horrible. I hugged her and hugged her. But she just kept saying she’s in love and [Kelly] is the one who cares for her. I don’t know what to do. I hope that if I get her back, I can get her treatment for victims of cults,” J. told Buzzfeed. “They can reprogram her. But I wish I could have stopped it from happening.”
Desperate parents speaking to Buzzfeed said they contacted the FBI and two police departments. However, they claim a wellness check last December prompted by the parents revealed nothing was amiss at the Kelly residence.
In 2008, Kelly was acquitted of the charges of engaging in a sexual act with a minor which was caught on video.

#2 - This movie, which sounds like a two word call sign had a scene that was shot in Palm Springs at a hotel. The hotel has never allowed anyone to shoot there since because of the destruction the cast did during some time off. There was also talk of how they got some of the housekeepers and desk staff drunk and partied with them for several days straight. The hotel had to basically shut down because there was no one working.
#3 - This movie which is a superhero movie filled with a galaxy of superheros was filmed partially in a southwestern state. The legendary creator of the "Night of the Living Dead" zombie franchise, George A. Romero, died Sunday at the age of 77.
Romero died "peacefully" while sleeping after a "brief but aggressive battle with lung cancer," his manager, Chris Roe, said in a statement. The filmmaker was "listening to the score of The Quiet Man, one of his all-time favorite films" with his family by his side, the manager added.
Romero co-wrote and directed "Night of the Living Dead" in 1968, which went on to become a cult classic.
The movie was rare at the time of its release in that it starred an African-American actor in the lead role.
It also set the rules the creators of zombie flick remakes live by: Zombies move slowly, lust for human flesh and can only be killed when shot in the head. If a zombie bites a human, the person dies and returns as a zombie.
Famous fans of his work mourned his death on social media. Stephen King called him his favorite collaborator and said, "There will never be another like you." Movie director Guillermo del Toro said, "The loss is so enormous."
In 1999, the Library of Congress inducted "Night of the Living Dead" into the National Registry of Films.
The film, which was made for about $100,000, sparked the zombie film genre and spurred five sequels as part of Romero’s "Dead" film series.
Romero created "Dawn of the Dead" 10 years later, which film critic Roger Ebert called "one of the best horror films ever made -- and, as an inescapable result, one of the most horrifying. It is gruesome, sickening, disgusting, violent, brutal and appalling. It is also ... brilliantly crafted, funny, droll, and savagely merciless in its satiric view of the American consumer society."
Romero maintained that he wouldn't make horror films if he couldn't fill them with political statements. "People say, 'You're trapped in this genre. You're a horror guy.' I say, 'Wait a minute, I'm able to say exactly what I think,' " Romero told The Associated Press. "I'm able to talk about, comment about, take snapshots of what's going on at the time. I don't feel trapped. I feel this is my way of being able to express myself."
The celebrated filmmaker graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh in 1960. He learned the movie business working on the sets of movies and "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood.”
Romero was born in the Bronx to Cuban and Lithuanian parents. He is survived by his wife Suzanne and two children.
Martin Landau, 89, a character actor who starred in the 1960s television show "Mission: Impossible" and won an Oscar for playing Bela Lugosi in the movie "Ed Wood," died Saturday, his publicist Dick Guttman said Sunday night.
Landau died at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles following "unexpected complications during a short hospitalization," Guttman said in a statement.
Landau was born June 28, 1928, in Brooklyn and worked as a cartoonist for the New York Daily News before becoming an actor. Landau's career spanned the decades. In 1957 he had a part in the play "Middle of the Night," with Edward G. Robinson and ended up on the West Coast.
To the general public, Landau was best known to the public for playing master of disguise Rollin Hand for a top-secret spy team in the 1960s series "Mission: Impossible," in which his then-wife Barbara Bain also starred.
He was nominated for Emmys for each of his three seasons on the show and won the Golden Globe for best male TV star in 1968.
Landau and Bain left the series in 1969 in a salary dispute. His career suffered for about a decade and he was forced to take roles in now-forgotten movies such as "The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island.
He was nominated for three Academy Awards for best supporting actor, for playing Abe Karatz in Francis Coppola's "Tucker" in 1988; the adulterous husband Judah Rosenthal in Woody Allen's "Crimes and Misdemeanors" in 1989; and the aging horror movie star Bela Lugosi in Tim Burton's "Ed Wood" in 1994. He won the Oscar for the "Ed Wood" role.

This B- list mostly television actress is on a hot cable show. Unless you watch it, you have no idea who she is. She is kind of acting royalty. She is also a method actress which is fine if you are going to do some Oscar worthy film. It is just a pain to everyone on the set of a what is essentially a sitcom though when it takes you ten minutes to get in character and go through a bunch of exercises before every scene when you are shooting multiple scenes. New show coming for this B+ list mostly television actress who is now on her third show in what seems like four years. She would rather do something other than act. Anyway, she was recently out of the country and was very lucky a friend happened to show up at a bar where the actress was having a drink. Some guy had spiked the drink of the actress and the guy would have taken her for sure if the friend had not been there. The police were called but the guy managed to get out of the bar before the police arrived.
