Kim Jong-Hyun Of SHINee Has Died

The lead singer of South Korea's top K-pop boy band Shinee has died after being taken to a hospital unconscious.

Twenty-seven-year-old Kim Jong-hyun was found unconscious at a rented apartment studio in Cheongdam-dong on Monday evening, the Yonhap News Agency reported, quoting police.

Police arrived at Kim's apartment in southern Seoul after receiving an emergency call from his sister, who received a text message from his brother shortly before his death.

The singer was moved to a nearby hospital but was later pronounced dead, police said.

Kim arrived at the hospital under cardiac arrest and received emergency CPR treatment but failed to regain consciousness.

He was 27.

  1. Very sad. I hope it doesn't trigger copycat suicides. It seems like fans in Asia take their idols very seriously.

  2. Does a text message before indicate suicide? Cardiac arrest from drugs?

As an aside, does anyone find it ironic that the blog doesn't allow anonymous comments but the whole premise of blind items is anonymity?

  3. Carbon Monoxide poisoning.

  4. LMS, his texts to his sister were reported to say things like "Don't think badly of me," which would suggest suicide. However, the K-Pop factory is so controlling that they'd likely try really hard to hide any drug problems the performers had.

  5. @LMS said, "As an aside, does anyone find it ironic that the blog doesn't allow anonymous comments but the whole premise of blind items is anonymity?" Are we supposed to know who you are? I'm kinda new here, so pardon me if I don't recognize you.

  8. Most Asian people are hoping that K-POP's hype will be over with his death.

  9. Terri where do you get that from? If anything it's gaining momentum again with BTS crossing over to America and RM already having worked with American musicians, like Wale and Fall Out Boy

  10. Always very tragic when a person takes their own life. MH services in Asia should not be scorned and looked down upon. The pressure to succeed must have been too much. RIP

  11. Carbon monoxide poisoning. He lit charcoal in a pan. I don't see the big hype. They stood on stage like mannequins, all lip-synched, and still didn't know what they were saying/singing. I'm always open to new music but just can't see it let alone lasting very long here in US.
    My worthless two cents.

  12. @Cole Gate,
I dunno. His labelmates, Red Velvet, are pretty innovative. Their latest video, Peekaboo, seems to be set in 1980's LA during the worst of the serial killer era.

The girls are the killers of hapless pizza delivery boys. The bop is great but as for the vid; you have my word on it, it's strange stuff.

  13. RIP.

I can't believe some people still said something mean on this thread, a person just passed away.
