Blind Item #9 - Kindness
Other than me including a description of the actor, I'm just going to post this as it was written by the person telling the story.
When a friend's son (who was, so tragically, dying from an incurable illness) made a wish: to meet this former A list mostly movie actor but was probably C- list outside that iconic franchise, it fell on me -- the only person the dad knew who worked in the film business -- to make a call. I called his agent and explained that this lovely boy watched the franchise every day and wanted to meet NOT the actor, but, rather, the actual CHARACTER that he played. The agent begrudgingly said he'd call the actor, but also said not to get my hopes up. 90 seconds later I got a call from the actor, who immediately said yes and gave me his home address. He not only met with the boy, but spent hours answering question after question (sometimes the same ones repeatedly), AS the character. Even posting this now makes me teary. He was compassionate, kind, and patient. And it literally meant the world to this kid and his family.

ReplyDeleteMark Hamill. It's also all over Facebook.
ReplyDeletelol the one kindness post coming out of Hollywood is a repeat.
ReplyDeleteMark Hamill does seem a really great person
ReplyDeleteSo sweet.
ReplyDeleteNice!
ReplyDeleteThat's classy Hammill. Bless you, and bless the parents and especially that boy. Big kudos to every person in the chain that made that happen for him. Big respect for Mark. You have any idea how hard it is putting on those costumes by yourself? And smiling while a kid grills you for hours as it rides up? lol. Glad Skywalker's still humble! He rocks.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Enty, for a kindness blind.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, given everything else going on right now, this one made me a little teary. <3
ReplyDeleteMark Hamill may be C- list for live action, outside of Star Wars, but he's a very much in demand voice actor, being for instance the voice of The Joker for years. That's also why he wasn't that much in shape when he returned for The Force Awakens. He could make a living in a wardrobe by just sitting in his office.
ReplyDeleteThat's Mark Hamill for you, always a class act. Agreed Angela, the man is a voice genius.
ReplyDeleteHey Everyone, looooong time (albeit only recently returned) lurker, first time poster here. It's great to see so many of the 'old' posters back (any sign of Libby and her armpits, though??).
ReplyDeleteLove Mark Hamill. This reminds me of a similar story about Colin Farrell. Many moons ago now, a girl from my school was diagnosed with an illness that would go on to take her life. She was a huge Colin Farrell fan so her family (I think) wrote to Colin telling him all about her and how much it would mean to her to meet or hear from him. Next thing you know, the girl gets a call on her mobile from Colin himself. It was his personal mobile number and he told her to call or text him anytime. He would check in on her every so often and she kept in touch with him until she passed away. <3

ReplyDeleteSo did he give his home address because the kid came to his house? That kinds of up the kindness in my little beady eyes.
ReplyDeleteMark Hamill appeared in character as Luke Skywalker to meet a young fan on "Jim'll Fix It" many years ago (in 1980, I think). I came across that just the other day.

(R2D2 and Chewbacca also showed up.)
Mark Hamill, this exact same story (from the perspective of the friend of the father to the boy) was on Reddit earlier today. Interesting that it was Enty!
ReplyDelete@AlexeiStukov can you post a link?
ReplyDeleteI fell in love with him as a kid and love him even now as an adult. One of the best. Wish more could be like him.
