Mine was yesterday. I went to dinner with a friend, nothing big. I tend to go out of town for mine though, and next week am going to Iceland for a few days to hike some glaciers and lava caves as my bday present to myself. So about the same as it has been since I turned 22 and am 36 now.
It's not a big deal to me anymore, I always go out for lunch/dinner with family or friends but that's all. People who have birthday weeks, much less birthday months - need to go away.
This one got me in the heartstrings. This was the first year that I didn't get to have my "Birthday Dinner" with my Dad. My Birthday was last week and I've always had the fortune to pick any restaurant for dinner. This year, I moved my Dad to Assisted Living on my Birthday. He can no longer eat or speak very well. So sad.
I celebrate my birthDAY not the year! My birthday is right before Halloween. I have had Halloween parties in the past. But this year a group of my friends are taking me to dinner tonight!
Yeah I'd like to celebrate it more, usually get too busy and just end up doing a restaurant with no planning ahead. Going to try and make a bigger deal out of it next year.
I celebrate everyone’s bday - just not the year for most. It is the one day of the year that is ALL ABOUT YOU! My family always did birthday months and we would call and sing happy birthday to the birthday girl or guy. Now my husband and I do it. Luckily we harmonize well together, and we have a small dog that just started singing/howling w/us...lol Yes, we are that annoying, corny couple. :-)
When we first got married, I bought a little crown that had 2 blocks and “dates til my birthday.” I didn’t know if my husband would remember the date, but I also did it as a joke.
Last year we bought wooden blocks for our son’s 1st year. It had days/weeks/months/years on one block, and 2 blocks w/numbers. A dear friend’s mum turned 80, so we brought them to her birthday and they did 80 years in all the pics taken. She LOVED it!! Last month, my husband brought out the blocks and started a countdown til my birthday. I hope he is planning something special - as I always go WAY OUT for his...we shall see...
I never celebrate it. I get a card from my mother. A 'happy birthday son" from my father and a call from my sister, which might be a day or two late. And they all know i don't mind. I hate fuss, I hate cards and presents even more, a waste off money they should spend on themselves.
I'm 52. I did mention it on Twitter a few years ago so some strangers remember and make a post, which starts the avalanche of strangers wishing me a happy birthday and me feeling obligated to acknowledge that. At nearly 4000 followers it can become tedious.
I never buy birthday cards for anyone. I do buy presents, or more usually, pay for that big something that someone needs that year even if it's the utility bill or car repair.
Until I hit 30 it was a free for all. Now I'd rather wake up the next day.

Nope. One of our kids was born two days after my birthday, so we have always celebrated his instead of mine, and I am just fine with that!
