I suppose it's not fair to call Scorcese a seventies director -- it's just that when I think of either of them I associate them first with that decade.
Scorsese's name is on the Polanski petition. wish somebody would put him on the spot and ask him about it. same w/alexander payne whose film downsizing w/matt damon coming out soon. JLaw's bf is on the Aronovsky petition, as is quirky animation indie dude Wes Anderson. Cuaron and Inarattu (spl???). spielberg's name isnt on the petition, so he wins.
Scorsese for reasons that may be specific to Fellow New Yorkers ... he gets it,films it, and ultimately-loves it...there is no mistaking his style, craft or edge.
Even though Goodfellas is my favorite movie i have to say overall Spielbergs movies have a slight edge over Scorcese - for me.

Spielberg
ReplyDeletescorsese, though if i could only watch one of them for the rest of my life i'd choose spielberg for the variety.
ReplyDeleteScorcese for this pair, but he's not really my favorite director. Or even my favorite seventies director.

ReplyDeleteBoth talented but will go with Spielberg
ReplyDeleteSpielberg. Not a single Scorcese movie I liked.

ReplyDeleteThis is really tough and close, but Scorcese by a nose.

Spielberg. I haven't found a Scorsese movie that I enjoyed yet.
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely Spielberg for me, although I'm not exactly a rabid fan of his either. It's just that I really don't like Scorsese or his movies.
ReplyDeleteSpielberg. Scorsese makes the same damn movie over and over. The women in his films are either whores or mothers. No thanks.
