Your Turn

Is Harvey Weinstein a one time thing or is anyone else going down? I think it is a one time thing and that people will be working for Harvey in a couple years. If people can work for Woody or Polanski or Mel Gibson, than there is no hope.

  1. I think Harvey's brother will keep Harvey out of the business.i think there will be at least one more guy brought down but not right away.

  2. There was a kidnapping at the day care center I volunteer at this morning.

But I woke him up, and everything was okay.

  3. Oh things will quiet down for a bit but sure as there are fame hungry starlets things will go back to how they have always been. The casting couch is far from dead.

    2. Yeah, the thirsty ones who throw themselves at powerful men are certainly not helping create/shape a safe (and fair) workplace for actresses who AREN'T okay with casting couching (and it also reinforces the idea that they can force it upon us, when we refuse because it's some sort of "initial coyness", and if you force hard enough they'll give in—because the women who threw themselves at them the past time were 110% willing). It takes having to compete with THAT to understand women's role in this too. Some of us want to compete for job the meritocratic way like men, you know... But we need to start from ourselves.

  4. As much as I'd love to see more fall, I have a feeling Harvey will be it.

  5. The sad thing to me is that it seems fairly common knowledge that Harvey was the way he is. I hope that professsional courtesy will no longer be tolerated so that no individual has the opportunity to rack up as many victims as he did. I want a one and done atmosphere - ostricize these monsters. I pray, seriously pray, that the child predators are exposed. Please let that revelation unfold!

  6. I don't think HW is personally coming back careerwise inasmuch as he is dependent upon other people's money to finance films (and he hasn't been making them much money recently). All the financiers on his Board resigned and it is doubtful if new money will want the "reputational risk" of associating with him. It is true that Woody and Roman found money to continue making films but I doubt they could do so if the behavior had occurred today. As for the casting couch, I suspect that it will continue unabated.

  7. Hopefully the gay ones will go down,ie. Singer and Geffen. Two evil rich bitches along with that Disney guy. As far as Hollywood, I hope that recent Oscar winner is shaking in his boots. Ladies, don't resort to this type of activity. It will blow up in your face. Nicole Sherizrnger and yatch. loving ways is next.

    1. Yes, I agree with the, "BUT FIRST women have to start from themselves if they truly want to be able to compete for jobs, meritocratically, like men." sentiment.

  8. right now, momentum is hanging in the balance. I bet tons of money is changing hands to try to keep certain situations quiet. If the general public is willing to keep these crimes in thr forefront and refuse to patronize the criminals' products, things will change.

  9. Agree with @D Brown.
Money is more of an issue here. The others didn't lose lots of money; I think the Weinstein company may have to pay out a lot, between productions that may sue and victims.

  10. I don't think sexual assaulting actors or actresses will stop.

Somewhere, someone thinks they are above the law and can get away with it.

(IMAO, it's the height of disrespect to use sex as a weapon to get a role, get film/TV financing or whatever.)

But, that is just my opinion.

  11. Sad to say but I think the Weinsteins will be fine. The reincarnate their business. They will be away from the spotlight is all.

I've seen recently that people are aiming for K. Spacey's neck. He makes too much money for everyone to be brought down. Same with Singer.

  12. I think just Harvey. He pissed off a bigwig and this is his come up. This is not and never has been about the sexual assaults.

  13. after your reveal this weekend about Harvey and JayZ i think the rap world will be unravelling soon. Then the pedophiles at the kids' networks. this isn't going to stop and it shouldn't.

  14. First of all, Mel Gibson just yelled at his then companion who, we knew later, was not a jewel; and ranting shit to a cop while drunk. He is known to be a great person with his coworkers.

Now, hw has only been thrown under the bus because he has been failing for half a decade or so, and his friend Hillary was not elected and cannot help him with his crimes. There will be pos like him as long as the derp state of hollyweird stays, and I do not see anyone wanting to change it.

  15. I believe that more sexual predators will be outed as the months go by. I do hope that the pedophiles of the entertainment industry are exposed and prosecuted as well.

  16. I certainly hope this gives more women a voice to stand up and out their predators.

  17. women in Hollywood who are hit upon have to band together to expose this. There is power in numbers. I did wonder if the women coming forward now about HW had any idea who else had been a victim, it is not the sort of thing you talk about. You always think it only happened to you because of something you did or said.

    1. I make a point of talking about it all the time, in case someone says, "me too". I have about the same amounts of sexual harassment experiences in the industry as acting credits...

  18. You're right Ent, there is no hope. When it was revealed that there was a clause in Harvey's contract that pretty much states he can't be fired for his sexual proclivities, I thought that spoke volumes about the industry.

I would so love to see Dan Schneider and Bryan Singer go down.

  19. In a sane society, yes, then things would start to change. I hope that the pedophiles would be exposed and the parents who let their kids be hurt are dealt with as well. That said, don't think it will end until people feel comfortable that they won't be retaliated against if they speak up. It is an evil cycle.

  20. More people should have gone down years and years ago...

  21. The country elected a sexual predator and abuser as president right AFTER recorded proof surfaced, so there is probably no hope if the country continues to regard moral turpitude as excusably just part of being a guy.

    1. Also, sadly, I think the way humans are wired has profoundly changed now. We live in a Kardashian era now and the president of the United States was a reality TV host, FFS.

I just read that back in the day, when Ronald Reagan's first wife was asked why she never commented on the First Couple, she said something along the lines of, "because it's in poor taste/tasteless to talk about ex-husbands/ex-wives."

Now we've got Donald Trump's first wife writing a tell-all book with a dedicated chapter/section/whatever to his 2nd and 3rd wives and Ivana making outrageous "LOOK AT ME!" claims on telly to promote her book.

I don't mean to make it about politics, I'm just saying: society is trashy now. Now the women who throw themselves at men won't even feel bad about helping foster the behaviour that leads to other actresses being harassed/abused/assaulted.

They'll probably come up with a faux-feminist excuse like, "I'm assertive/empowered to use my sexuality to get ahead." Or some BS. (No, it's not "women's empowerment" when you put other women at risk just so you get ahead with your thirsty attention/fame-seeking, it just makes you a selfish asshole.)

It doesn't even make a difference what your politics are anymore: Both US présidence I used as an example of "classy" versus "tasteless" were/are both Republican présidents and HW was a Democrat donor.

  22. Hopefully, Schneider and Singer will be next. They're probably scattering like cockroaches now.

  23. Why hasn't anyone mentioned Corey Haim? Right before he died supposedly he was going to the press and outing many big names who were part of the Hollywood pedophile ring and they were sweating at wht would come out

    ReplyDelete
  24. I agree, I want to see Singer and Schneider go down next, and everyone else who pulls this type of shit.

  25. The only thing that I'm pissed about is that sexual harrassment occurs in every industry and society, not just Hollywood. We all need to stop yanking on our pearls and do something about it!

    1. It wasn't as bad when I worked in the offices, though (and that's saying a lot because the way office work is, you're in enclosed rooms/corner offices a lot more).

I had an acting teacher grind me in broad daylight, and it was caught on camera and the art community that hosted the class did NOTHING about it, and people still very much work that art community because they let organisations "use their venue for free" (plus, they have a media group supporting the place—at one point they even defended a rapist who impregnated a woman, and used for a PR campaign).

    2. I guess the point I'm trying to make is: In entertainment, men just assume all of us women are willing participants—BUT WE'RE NOT.

Some of us would love nothing but to compete for jobs the honest way, like men.

  26. I think it will blow over, unfortunately. More and more actresses may be speaking out, but as long as they refuse to name names, nothing is going to change in this industry.

  27. I think it's just a piece of a long and detailed investigation that will bring down many more in a giant house of cards. Best way to start the process in motion, after a lot of behind-the-scenes investigation, is to squeeze a piggy and make him squeal. Just because people think things haven't been reported to law enforcement doesn't mean they haven't been, and I'd be willing to bet there are informants nobody knows about. Undercover investigations can go on for very long periods of time.
