Blind Item #7

There is a lot of drama between some female former A+ list gymnasts. Apparently there is an abuse bill making its way through Congress which came about because of the sexual abuse suffered by gymnasts at the hand of the team doctor. One of the top 3 US gymnasts of all time is trying to stop the bill. She says she is looking at it from a business perspective and is perfectly willing to throw everyone else under the bus.

I hope I'm wrong, but she has stayed silent while her teammate (Dominique Moceanu) has come forward about her own abuse. And she holds the record for Olympic medals, so she is without a doubt top 3 of all time.

    1. ...not to say SM has been abused, but that she hasn't shown any support to the youngest gymnast on her team who she no doubt witnessed being verbally and mentally abused.

    2. Shannon doesn't owe Dominique Moceanu anything. They were placed on the same team over 20 years ago. They are not friends. Not a single member of that team has defended Dominique. What does that tell you?

Using Kim Zmeskal's daughter's name as your handle is disgusting.

  3. I don't understand this blind at all. She wants to stop the bill because abuse is good for business?

  4. No, probably more to do with the image of the Gymnastics overall and her branding and opportunities to shill products on TV.

She wants to keep it all quiet so people will think all is well and American as apple pie.

  5. could also be Nastia Liukin. her father replaced Martha Karolyi as the team coordinator, and she is still very involved in gymnastics.

either way I hope this is revealed.

  8. Hi @Glitter! I couldn't stand the new format and posting wasn't fun so I was just a sometime lurker. But as long as Enty stays with the old format timebob lives!

  9. I think it's Mary Lou Retton: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/29/sports/facing-congress-some-sports-officials-not-all-begin-to-confront-sex-abuse.html?ref=oembed

USA Gymnastics "...policies were solid and that gymnastics was a happy, safe place."
