Blind Item #3 - Old Hollywood
Back in the day this actor was A++ list. He is still alive and still permanently A list. When this particular event happened, he was just getting to A list. Anyway, he was making one of the least memorable movies of his career. His co-star was a foreign born actress who is alive and an Academy Award winner/nominee was fending off a rape from a man she knew well and accidentally killed him. With the help of our actor and the police, the death was ruled a suicide.
Old Hollywood BI are my fave!
ReplyDeleteBurt Reynolds, The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing. Actress was Sarah Miles.
ReplyDeleteAt least he never raped again. Glad she got out. That's the kind of friend you stick with.
ReplyDeleteJust throwing this out there, but Kirk Douglas and Leslie Caron were in a movie called "A Letter To Three Loves" in 1953.
ReplyDeleteSounds like it is Oscar-nominated Sarah Miles and Burt Reynolds. From her Wikipedia page..."On 11 February 1973, while filming The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing, David Whiting, briefly one of her lovers,[8] was found dead in her motel room. She was acquitted of culpability in his death.[3][9] Miles later commented: "It went on for six months. Murder? Suicide? Murder! Suicide! Murder! Suicide! And, gradually, the truth came out, which I'm not going to speak about, but it certainly wasn't me. I had actually saved the man from three suicide attempts so why would I want to murder him? I really can't imagine."
ReplyDeleteSee this interesting take on Sarah Miles/David Whiting:

ReplyDeleteI remember that all the tabloids were going crazy over this event. My neighbors mom would bring the magazines home and I just loved reading it. Similar to OJ but more within the gossip rags.. Burt was a big deal and so handsome.
ReplyDeletethats who i thought off when i read this post, but its rumors on our fair shore - a story from staff in Ashford Castle.
ReplyDeleteWe treated her cat at a vets I worked in many moons ago. She would come in in her bathrobe shower cap and slippers!
ReplyDeleteJohn Wayne did die of cancer. My husband's uncle (swear to God) was his oncologist.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. If it was Burt, considering he's been known go not be so nice to his gf's he really stepped up in this case
ReplyDeleteI remember this "old Hollywood" item happening, I guess that makes me officially "old". Anyway kudos to Burt Reynolds if this happened.
