Today's Blind Items - Sex Fiesta
This movie was big. Did it cross the $100M mark? Nope. Do all of you know it? Yep. It is just one of those movies that has a very very long life. Back when they made it they were having some soundtrack issues. Actually a lot of soundtrack issues. The producers hated some songs which were going to be on the soundtrack. Loved some that were going to be in the movie but couldn't get on the soundtrack. Oh, and they also hated their composer. So, I went and visited the set for a couple of days to hash some of it out. I have seen a lot of sets before where people were having a lot of sex. Generally, they pair off and stayed paired off with the same people throughout the whole shoot. This one was completely different. This was one big party where filming was a break from the partying that was going on nonstop. A bunch of 20 something year olds who were all about to hit it big. Seriously, like a handful in the next year would be A list or close to it. There is a now A+ list mostly movie actress who was in it. She did a ton of partying but stayed away from the drugs. Drunk? Every second she could. The thing is she would pass out. If she passed out and the co-star she was hooking up with was still ready to party, he would hook up with any other co-star who was willing. There was a foreign born A- list actor in it. He had sex with three of his co-stars. Two of the female co-stars were dared one night to make out and they ended up doing more than making out. One of them would go on to be an A list television actress. The other probably peaked at A- list. She had a lot of issues after this film was made. I think this film actually introduced her to booze and drugs at a level she had not encountered and it has taken her a lot of years to get over it.
Empire Records?
ReplyDeleteAnthony LaPaglia FB actor
ReplyDeleteRenee Zelweger A + actress
Robin Tunney TV actress
Liv Tyler other actress
Mean Girls. Lindsay, Rachel McAdams, Lizzy Caplan and Lacey Chabert?

ReplyDeleteNo the actor doesn't fit so something else
ReplyDeleteThe Brat Pack movies of the 80's - before my time but The Breakfast Club and St. Elmo's Fire are two I can name.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise I'm thinking American Pie?
Haven't seen it either.
Cruel Intentions: actor Ryan Phillippe A+ actress Reesie
ReplyDeleteTv actresses Selma Blair and SMG and Tara Reid as the drug addict.
Dazed and Confused
ReplyDeleteNever Been Kissed -
ReplyDeleteDrew Barrymore - A+ (?)
Michael Vartan - foreign born A -
Molly Shannon/Jessica Alba/ Leelee Sobeski - among the other stars
My first choice, but Phillippe was born in Delaware.
ReplyDeleteOk add Joshua Jackson to the list, take out Phillippe and everything fits
ReplyDeleteDoes that make Joshua Jackson as the "foreign born A lister"?
ReplyDeleteI guess so it doesn't specify movies or tv, just A lister.
ReplyDeleteCruel Intentions
ReplyDeleteA+ actress Reese
A list TV actress SMG
A- list Selma Blair
Foreign born actor Joshua Jackson
That was my guess
ReplyDeleteI like the St Elmo's fire guess.
ReplyDeleteNevermind. Cruel Intentions works better.
ReplyDeleteTitanic?
ReplyDeleteWet Hot American Summer - Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper, Molly Shannon, Paul Rudd, Christopher Meloni
ReplyDeleteTitanic didn't make over $100 mil in box office?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
ReplyDeleteHow dare you leave out Elizabeth Banks!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGood guess but don't think there is a "foreign born A- list actor" in the movie
I think you got it. According to the Wikipedia page, there were a bunch of songs in the movie that were left off the soundtrack and they switched composers.
ReplyDeletehttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cruel_Intentions_(soundtrack)
IIRC, I thought the Verve also had some problems with not having rights for the sampling in Bitter Sweet Symphony
Movie also had Tara Reid right before American Pie
ReplyDeleteOr I guess Sandy posted first. Sorry Sandy
ReplyDeleteThere were only two actresses in The Breakfast Club- Molly Ringwald & Ally Sheedy. No foreign born actors.
ReplyDeleteNever heard of this film
ReplyDeleteamerican psycho?
ReplyDeleteAlso Demi Moore.
ReplyDeleteanything with enty's friend renee zellweger is a good guess on this site!
ReplyDeleteI don't remember Empire Records having any original music. I don't think they had a composer.
ReplyDeleteIn addition, Empire Records only made $273k in the US. Cruel Intentions ($38.3) makes more sense.
ReplyDeleteOff-topic: Renee was insanely hot with that apron.

No A+ movie actress.
ReplyDeleteYou forgot Amanda Seyfried!
ReplyDeleteyoure right, but I was just taking them off the top of my head and then went to find the actor, and I couldn't and I knew this was the wrong movie.
ReplyDeleteno problem. Reading backwards isnt good I wish Entern would make the default view oldest instead of newest.
ReplyDeleteI agree but man those ratings. To me SMG is an A+ TV star and Selma Blair on her best day was never more than a B movie actress.
ReplyDeleteStill, the thought of it . . .
The soundtrack on that one was excellent! ?
ReplyDeleteBest. Song. Ever.
ReplyDeleteAnd most satisfying ending to go with it.
Cruel Intentions. I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often.
ReplyDeletenot Cruel Intentions because it wasn't filmed in one location. the cast were rarely all together. SMG and RW only filmed one scene together at the end. and JJ was only on set one day to film his scene. plus SMG has never been the party type.
ReplyDeletethis fits more with Dazed and Confused.
It also says they were about to hit it big. SMG was already massive in 1999. She had Buffy, Scream 2 and I Know What You Did Last Summer out. She was on the cover of every magazine at the time. She peaked from 97-99 and would never get bigger than she already was.
ReplyDelete"Seriously, like a handful in the next year would be A list or close to it."
Who does that apply too? Not SMG (as stated above), not Reese, as she wouldn't become close to A list until 3 years later when Sweet Home Alabama came out. It could be argued she never was truly A list until Walk the Line in 2005. Selma was never A list, neither was Ryan. I too think people are reaching on it being CI. Reese was the only one who truly got bigger after CI came out, and that wasn't for many years.
Scott Pilgrim?
ReplyDeleteBrie Lawson
Chris Evans
Aubrey Plaza
Anna Kendrick
Really? SMG has never been the party type? That genuinely surprises me because I always thought she was a big ol' coke head as that would have explained those rumors about how weird and bitchy she was/is.
ReplyDeleteAlmost all of this fits with Dazed & Confused.
ReplyDeleteLinklater spent a fair bit of the budget on securing songs to use but couldn't get them, especially Led Zeppelin's title song. The sex romps are also documented online if you look around, the only thing that doesn't fit is the foreign born actor thing.
