The singer's wife is making a money grab because the money train has come to a complete stop and an adviser told her if she makes a lot of noise she might get a quick check.
Just how much longer will Vicky be living in that expensive rented apartment? I bet she's looking at those dumb Birkins and wishing she had the cash instead right about now. Not to mention dear Mama in law whose golden goose has laid its last egg.
So why does the money train come to a complete stop?? I assume he has millions in the bank and will have royalties and residuals coming in for years. Did he have a prenup that says she gets cutoff and nothing if he dies?? That seems unlikely.
Interesting how a high profile ME has injected himself into this case saying it could be accidental. The same ME that testified for Casey Anthony. He appears to be in all these famous cases, and also appears to say whatever the lawyer who is paying wants him too. The wife's INSURANCE lawyer and her have probably paid him to speak out that it could have been accidental, and put doubt in everyone's minds
Because he had to do a lot of touring churning out old Soundgarden classics to keep the money rolling in. That was paying for the lifestyle the wife insisted on.
Because there are no royalties anymore. No one buys records. There is no money in streaming music. If you are a musician, you either spend your life on the road, or sell your back catalog for marketing. I don't think there is much future in "Outshined" tanning lotion. Or "Black Hole Sun" fruit drink. Plus, Chris Cornell had a decades long drug problem. That almost certainly pissed away much of the money he had already made. Finally, because it was a suicide, there is no life insurance.
Not neccessarily. Most insurance policies will pay for a suicide once the policy has been in place for a few years. Unless there was something in his policy.
Wow, the hate on Vicky. When the news first came out about Chris, I immediately thought auto-ashphyxiation gone wrong and most likely due to drugs. The toxicology report confirms the latter. Even if my loved one is dead broke, I wouldn't easily accept suicide unless there is a clear indication they planned it (giving away things, chronic illness, revising wills, letters, notes, etc.). Not so clear sometimes. So why is this a money grab? Maybe she is fighting to preserve a great legacy to not end like so I don't blame her one bit. The insurance money is probably nothing compared to his Chris's net worth so how does it extend his estate. She will live comfortably off his royalties alone. I get her efforts and I hope she does an inquest into his death and donate the insurance money to the homeless.
Please keep this story alive. There is a huge thread on Lipstick Alley about all this along with screen caps of the CC MIL's social media. She's gone berzerk there attacking people and also going after Eddie Vedder and his family. The fact that her daughter has not shut her down can only mean that she's the daughter's mouthpeice. Also someone in that thread posted something about CC's net worth. He did well but he's not on the level of Prince as far as wealth is concerned and also had a divorce take place right after he made most of the Soundgarden money in record sales. If you look, the lifestyle that was being lead appears to be beyond what he was really able to sustain. That had to be a lot of pressure to endure.
re: the life insurance- that's not always true. Some policies have clauses that state you can't collect for the first 2-3-4 years or something like that. After that, the policy will stay pay out even if the death is self inflicted. (Mine ins had a 2 yr suicide clause). I suspect the reason the wife and her mother are upset is because it is only natural when there is a suicide to point fingers back at the people who were around the person. So this harms their narrative of the outwardly appearing perfect family. Also there is a lot of chatter on the web about the phone call the wife stated took place between she and him right before he was found dead. Many people now believe that something bad took place in that phone call and that was the trigger that sent him over the edge.
I would like to think you're right, but I just don't. I think when Chris met her he was very vulnerable and she seemed like the light at the end of the tunnel. It seems from his last posts something was not right in their world. "I'm the shape of the hole inside your heart". I don't believe he posted the Mother's Day posts, she did. As others here have mentioned the rental in Miami for $30,000 per month for several years, her Birkin bags, etc. It was quite the lifestyle. He said he was tired and he looked exhausted. Again, I would like to believe in a dark world he had comfort at home and with his wife. He might have and all of us who are skeptical could be very wrong.
It was posted on the Lipstick Alley thread. If you believe these numbers, he was only moderately wealthy for a rock star and the bulk of that wealth was earned during his first marriage. One can only assume he paid out a hefty amount to his first wife in the divorce, so those amounts listed at the link are maybe even smaller because of that. Even without that taken into account, just from the outside, the situation he was living in with wife and her luxury lifestyle (lots of photos of many Hermes Birkin bags, luxury cars/jets, MIL with the same items, etc.) seems like it could very likely have been out of proportion to his actual means.
I don't understand your comment "The toxicology report confirms the latter." In the autopsy report, the medical examiner states, "These drugs did not contribute to the cause of death."
here is a screen cap that was posted on instagram. it supposedly originally appeared on reddit and the person claims to be a family member of CC - interesting stuff.
Agree -- and this is a razor's edge for her to be running back and forth on. Especially if she wants us to believe how much she loved him not just their lifestyle. Sorry for your loss and whatnot, but Vicki, you may have to sell some of your toys and get a job.
Also, there is often no indication at all a person would commit suicide.
The hate on Vicki started years ago,I came across a thread from 2004 where people blasted her. She is looked at like Courtney and Yoko combined, and a woman who stalked him was always trolling websites with hate on her as recently as last year, when she was arrested. Susan Silver, his first wife,is held in high regard because of her reputation in Seattle. This in spite of keeping his guitars, leading to four years in,court, and hiring someone that broke into his house and threatened his children. Vicki may be hooked, on the good life, but I doubts she wanted the father of her children dead. Notice all the down votes you have got, for not going with the Stans.
as someone else wrote earlier, he also got a divorce right after all the soundgarden fame when record sales were much more lucrative. it'll be interesting to see the estate sitch
The relative said, "I know for a fact Vicky was emotionally abusive. She attacked him in his worst moments and he couldn't handle it. It's really that simple."
That's one of the most, if not the most, cowardly/dishonourable way to kill someone. If this is true, we should hope he gets justice.
The MIL was always hilarious, remember when she used to pretend she was the same age as Susan? In fact Toni is 66 this year and looks every single one of those years up close. FACT! I always wondered how Vicky looked so ancient for someone in her "thirties" too. Does she knock 8 years off her age as well?
I can't find it anymore on Crazy Days and Nights, but here is a blind from this site months ago that gives a bit of a breakdown on the shadiness of Vicky.
Isn't it telling that after the funeral the whole of Soundgarden chose to go and be with Susan? They are all photographed at a restaurant and those guys had absolutely no problem with her and stayed close with her all those years. Please remember that Vicky is a publicist and a very greedy one at that, she went all out to destroy Susan and to leave her penniless and without even child support. The spite and bitching that came from Vicky and her awful mother over the years towards Susan has been dreadful and Susan just kept her dignity. Surely the fact the whole of Soundgarden continued to be on Susan's side speaks volumes. Cornell left his wife and young baby and Susan simply fought for child support and what she was owed like ANY abandoned wife has to. I mean....which woman do you see parading 20 grand handbags and blabbing lies to the press? It's not Susan is it?
Vicky is a publicist, dramatising and exaggerating everything, she tells a pack of lies to demonise the first wife. Someone going to their house to serve legal papers on Cornell for not paying any child support for the child he abandoned for years gets turned into "someone broke into our house and terrorised us" Uhhhh no lady, they served papers. You didn't like it because it meant less money for you to squander. But you spun it into a great big drama to demonise the first wife. Maybe he should have done the decent thing and just paid his child support in the first place then no one would have needed to legally serve those documents.
I suppose a screw you Vicky would have been easy to do, but I'm not looking for up votes and I don't follow the crowd so I'm not afraid to sit on left field while sipping some wine. I'm OK with that. I love debate which is sorely lacking in social media because if you don't go with the flow, you are simply wrong. If you down voted based on her persona, that's not good enough. I don't know of her so I will cede to what you guys are saying here. My main point is that this woman lost her husband to an apparent suicide and her motivation to change the classification of his death may be less to do with money and more to do with his legacy and the stench of suicide and how it will affect his children. When I was a youngster, one of my best friends committed suicide by self immolation. Decades later, I still think about it. It does something to you. Ask Frances Bean. I can't help looking at things from a humanistic perspective.
He was a drug addict and still on drugs, although what was listed is also prescribed. Drugs do things to you and saying drugs did not contribute to his death is one hell of a leap. But that's just my opinion. BTW, not Vicky.
i have a family member who failed at hanging themselves. Still alive years later, but every time this happens, especially with a musician, it causes a lot of grief and worries that it may trigger something {in this person}.I welcome the down votes, before we would be trolled and be called Vicki.Suicide forums on the internet are these days filled with people encouraging others to do it, and even giving instructions.
that thread on Lipstick Alley about the january blind reached over 200 responses and they had to start a new thread before it crashed their board. Apparently the MIL has gone completely batshit on Twitter again
Agree. I work in insurance compliance (writing contracts, to be specific). In general life insurance, after a contestable period of one to two years, suicides may be payable. More states are requiring that companies reduce or remove their contestable periods - meaning that suicides are payable. However, there might be different provisions for insurance covering specific entertainers or events. Here I am thinking of the guaranty insurance that filmmakers had to get on RDJ and Lilo when they were coming out of their drug habits. When you get into specialty insurance products for entertainment, racing, events, etc, that's a whole different ballgame because you're talking about jumbo policies - routinely over $1 million. Litigation over those policies (like the Michael Jackson/AEG thing) can go on for a long time.
Everyone asking about the money...not sure what happened in this case, but there is this:
"Additionally, the divorce settlement agreement included a handwritten provision that Cornell and Silver would each own 50 percent of the rights to works created prior to the filing of the divorce petition.
But Silver now claims she is the co-owner with the right to coadminister any music written or recorded by Cornell prior to the dissolution date."
Prince's widow?
ReplyDeleteChris Cornell's wife
ReplyDeleteShe has been pushing the accidental death (insurance money) over suicide (no insurance money)
ReplyDeleteJust how much longer will Vicky be living in that expensive rented apartment? I bet she's looking at those dumb Birkins and wishing she had the cash instead right about now. Not to mention dear Mama in law whose golden goose has laid its last egg.
ReplyDeletecornell's wife. prince doesn't have a widow and everyone in that camp has been pretty much silent.
ReplyDeleteCDAN please don't let this story die. Keep digging. There is more.
ReplyDeleteMakes sense
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking the same thing. She probably gets way more life insurance if his death is ruled an accident.
ReplyDeleteSo why does the money train come to a complete stop?? I assume he has millions in the bank and will have royalties and residuals coming in for years. Did he have a prenup that says she gets cutoff and nothing if he dies?? That seems unlikely.

ReplyDeleteBecause there are no royalties anymore. No one buys records. There is no money in streaming music. And Soundgarden wasn't even playing big venues. The Fox theater is only a 5000 seat place. Same as the other stops on the tour.
