This foreign born alliteration singer mistook kindness for flirting and hit on this foreign born A list mostly movie actress who is a multiple Academy Award winner/nominee. The actress turned her down cold.
Especially when you're brought up to be polite to service workers, but then they're so accustomed to being treated like shit by other customers, it blows their minds when they get one who's not mean for once.
What I don't like are delivery guys, because not only do they know where you live, they also have your number (some have no boundaries and will start texting/IM-ing you). Some of them have turned into stalking or "semi-blackmail" situations (where they won't leave the delivery with another family member/maids, they'll only hand the delivery if I accept in person—but you're not home all the time and you need the product, it's so unprofessional).
Neurotypicals are just going to flirt with each other to death unless they procreate to prevent extinction. Fucking dinosaurs should just fuck off from the earth anyway. Bring in the Vulcans.
But it's just acting, and she's a grown-up (I used to think that everything on telly was a "documentary" when I was little—not just stuff like "Golden Girls" and "Mister Rogers", like even classic "Star Trek" was real to me). People always mistake you for the roles you play and fall in love with that.
... And the Winslet character was revealed (about a decade ago) to be Ann Perry, hugely popular writer of Victorian murder mysteries. Her parents changed her name and brought her to England when she was released from prison.
Kindness is so rare, and flirting so common.
ReplyDeletei can just see Kate W saying "not that there's anything wrong with that".
ReplyDeleteI know the pain of unintentional flirting.
ReplyDeleteIn the past, while trying to be friendly with female business associates I'd find it very difficult.
It used to be, I'd say something like:
"Hi, how are you?"
And, they'd respond, "I'm married!"
Or, even worse, "When do you want to meet up?"
With age, I guess I've learned to stay distant, and that seemed to work.
I'll say, "Hi!"
They'd say, "Hello."
Then, I'd immediately proceed with the CRE business we were conducting.
Jesse Just must have seen the Kate\Melanie Lynsky movie from years ago and thought Kate likes girls. (heavenly creatures)
ReplyDeleteHeavenly Creatures, by the way, being an absolutely fantastic movie and one which I highly recommend. Heavy, though.
ReplyDeleteEnty tricked us and called Kate A list. Which of course, she is.
ReplyDeleteYES, heavenly creatures is an incredible movie (didnt even know peter jackson, lord of the rings director dude, filmed it until later in life)
ReplyDeletethough it freaks me out its based on an entirely true story..... :(
Kate Winslet is A+
ReplyDeleteNot here until this BI she has always been B+ or B
