Blind Item #8
Not so long ago this singer/songwriter/musician was A list. All of you would sing her biggest song on the radio. In the last decade there has not been much to sing about and that is by her design. She does not want that levels of success for herself. She does however sell her songs using a pseudonym and has written almost a dozen top ten songs over that same time span.
Sia?
ReplyDeleteToriAmos
ReplyDeleteOr maybe Vanessa Carlton
ReplyDeleteNevermind, did not notice "last decade"
ReplyDeleteSarah Maclauclan
ReplyDeleteFiona Apple?
ReplyDeleteGood one too but she Foreign born... not that Enty is consistent. Michelle Branchs last actual album was 2007(only had extended plays of songs since). Could be her too
ReplyDeleteDido? Doesn't say foreign born, but ,you know Enty. What about his drinking buddy Duffy?
ReplyDeleteMacy Gray
ReplyDeleteSheryl Crowe or Alanis Morrisette?
ReplyDelete+1 badgebunny. sheryl crowe's who came to my mind. she's an amazing songwriter, had maybe too much of the publicity machine in her life thanks to lance armstrong and breast cancer.
ReplyDeleteNatasha Bedfingfield
ReplyDeleteDuffy
ReplyDeleteWhoever, she is smart. Because the writer makes more on the song than the singer.
ReplyDeleteSee Madonna or even Elvis for that matter.
Madonna knew she needed writing credit to make money, so she negotiated 25% of writing credit to sing a song.
Whereas, Elvis sang and made the songs famous but didn't earn a dime on them -- other than album sales.
Sade
ReplyDeleteColbie Caillat?
ReplyDeleteJewel?
ReplyDeleteLauryn Hill
ReplyDeleteSome of these guesses are hilarious. I have no idea who this would be though.
ReplyDeleteStill releasing records, her last one was great.
ReplyDeleteCarol king
ReplyDeleteElvis didn't get any share of that money because the Colonel cut him out of it. If you wanted Elvis to record your song, and you weren't the biggest of names, you had to turn over a piece of your publishing rights to a company the Colonel owned. Not that unusual a racket, except that usually the A-list singer owned a piece of the company or got a writing credit and a royalty check. Not Elvis.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like Sheryl Crow, the song being All I Wanna Do, If It Makes You Happy....etc. There were a lot. I know I blasted Picture a million times lol. She adopted her first son about 10 years ago, so probably having kids had something to do with her not wanting to perform anymore. She knows what she's doing and is set up for life.
ReplyDeleteDido.
ReplyDeleteCrowe didn't write those songs by herself...lot of help. Maybe Linda Perry
ReplyDeleteI don't think anyone said she wrote them by herself? But even being a co-writer of some sort gives her enough money.

I mean....I'd say she's decent songwriter, some of those she is the only writer credited.
And Mick and Keith started writing songs when they saw how much John and Paul were making for writing their own.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness. I fucking love her. I wondered where she went.
ReplyDeleteActually, I love a lot of the other guesses the other commenters guessed too.
Just to be different, I'm gonna say Cher because Serius Radio plays Half Breed and Gypsies Tramps and Thieves every single day.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like Liz Graham
ReplyDeleteI'm so curious who this is!!! It's not Jewel, she has all the big named writers on her music and has released like 6 albums? Sheryl Crow is about to release a new album next month. What about Tracy Chapman.. she had that one huge hit and I don't think she was heard of again. But I'm not sure if she even wrote that song
ReplyDeleteAlanis? Hmmm...
ReplyDeleteDuffy. She has said as much. Love her voice and wish she would sing more.
ReplyDeleteNorah Jones?
ReplyDelete+1
ReplyDeleteCarly Simon? She used to have panic attacks on stage.
ReplyDeletePink?? Although she is pretty much still out there just not so super busy. She writes too
ReplyDeleteLove her hits
