Do you think celebrating Valentine's Day has jumped the shark? Is it on the decline?

It's never really been a big deal to me. If you show you care enough the rest of the year, one day really isn't that important.
No big deal.
Here in Russia my girl sure knows about it. And as a holiday it's on the upswing. And as an American my participation is expected.
acting up ?
If you are 18 or in the dating stage. Other than that, just another day, except for the chocolate, roses, and stuffed bears market.
Like so many other things these days, it is something that exists just in the msm's minds, most people could not care less about it.
I'm just happy my kids have aged out of giving valentines at school. That was a pain in the....
If it involves choco covered strawberries, I'm in...but none of the other crap
After nearly twenty years together (and two kids to deal with) it isn't a big fuss.
However, we may exchange cards. And Intry to get him a card from our cats!
It's just a commercialized day, much like Mother's Day and Father's Day.
It's a nice opportunity for those who do have a significant other to do something nice for them. Commercialized or not, a lot of people who are in love do look forward to spending Valentine's Day together, so I can't knock it.
Just don't buy lingerie, that comes with an obligation. A puppy works for me.
Pooh on you Debbie Downer. No boyfriend eh?
No. Just a husband and son.
When your in a relationship it's a big deal but when your single it's just another day
We celebrate it every year, but it's not a huge occasion. Nice day to remind your S/O you care.
We're going out this year! Not on Valentine's Day - that's for suckers. A restaurant that I've always wanted to try is having a 3-course dinner for 2 for $50 deal and then I have coupons for half-price movies. We haven't celebrated V Day in about 20 years, but we used to make it a point to do something with the kids. Now, they don't care either. L
This is all happening next Wednesday. :)
I used to absolutely despise it (except as a small grade school child because I'm Asian and I love stationery like a caricature of an Asian girl, and I love the pretty cards and the pinks). In fact I hated it so much I used to call it "VD" (this was before I knew better not to joke about sexually-transmitted diseases because it stigmatises HIV+ people).
But this changed for me in the past few months, and this is the first year I'm genuinely excited celebrating about Valentine's Day.
Who needs lingerie? Just be nekkid.
Only when I was teaching. So fun with little kids!
a place down here is having a black valentines party- friday nite 10p live music no cover wear black- i think maybe v- day ridiculousness has peaked, we are usually very booked up for "valentine's day weekend" but this year not so much
why the hell not? nice dinner out, cute gift, fresh flowers ( not from gas station, no giant idiotic tb, no stupid red velvet hearts), im fine w/ VD ...
Then you're lucky, you'll get two men doting on you!
@Jennifer BAH HAHAHAHAHA!!!
It's never been a big deal to me in any relationship, but I've always had boyfriends who were generous and we always went out and did things. The 14rh of February didn't hold any significant importance other than being one of those boyfriends birthday.
