BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS

Naomie Harris, Moonlight

Haven't seen all the films but I'm thinking it's between Patel/Ali and Davis/Kidman.
ReplyDeleteI lean toward Viola and Deb taking it home though
Ali and Viola
ReplyDeleteDev Parel
ReplyDeleteNicole Kidman
Jeff Bridges
ReplyDeleteOctavia Spencer
if I was the sole voter, that's who'd win.
Haven't seen any of the films but I bet Dev Patel and Viola Davis.
ReplyDeleteAli/ Spencer
ReplyDeleteI've seen all the movies this year. Ali and Davis will win but it should be Patel and Williams. They were my favorite performances.
ReplyDeletePatel has gained major steam since the BAFTA awards. There are whispers that any of the Patel/Bridges/Shannon trio could pull the upset. Ali is and has been the favorite though.
ReplyDeleteViola Davis will not lose. Naomie Harris and Michelle Williams were great but not as good as Davis and just not enough scenes to make enough of a mark. Kidman is an 80 to 1 longshot and I did not find her performance to be anything noteworthy. Octavia was very good, but I don't see the hype over her performance or the movie itself. It was like watching Rudy. You knew the underdog was going to win. They told the story in a way that was "Disney-ish"
O/T but I will say it again... Manchester by the Sea is being unfairly hurt by the negative Affleck PR. If you want to punish him, so be it. The movie was the best of the nominees. I honestly didn't think it was close, but I am not an a-hole and can respect opinions that differ. It's going to win original screenplay as it should, but somehow it got pushed aside.
ReplyDelete@Cheese... If Williams won I would not be upset. My husband and I just finished #9 of 9 and I tend to agree with you overall on your top 2 for each side.
ReplyDeleteI have only seen The Lion and I was unimpressed. I just don't see this movie as nominee-material
ReplyDeleteThank you for saying that! I loved the idea behind "Hidden Figures" but then you had Kevin Costner doing super hero Kevin Costner things, and Octavia being the omnipotent techie who could walk past a circuit board and out-tech the IBM techs just because, you know, she KNOWS everything because she stole a 60-page Fortran book from the library and memorized it. Then the million woman march at the end was just too "Rudy". I did enjoy it. I just thought the story was powerful enough to stand on its own without all the over-the-top movie stuff.
ReplyDeleteI think both Mahershala Ali and Viola Davis are locks to win. Ali was very good in Moonlight but he was in fact much better in Free State of Jones which got critically ignored. He didn't really have much of a role in Hidden Figures. Viola's overdue though I was much more impressed by Naomie Harris in Moonlight.
ReplyDeleteNot convinced Patel's going anywhere. The BAFTAs notoriously favor Brits and he may be of Indian descent, but Patel's a Brit.
ReplyDeleteI have not seen any of the movies, but I like Jeff bridges and Kidman/MWilliams, so I vote for them.
ReplyDeleteAnd it is not that I dislike the others, I just do not know who the hell they are.
ReplyDeleteViola Davis/Jeff Bridges....
ReplyDeleteWhoever Jada Pinket Smith approves of will win.
ReplyDeleteIt just occurred to me that I have completely lost the ability to care about awards.
ReplyDeleteDev and Octavia.
