BEST ACTOR Casey Affleck, Manchester by the Sea Andrew Garfield, Hacksaw Ridge Ryan Gosling, La La Land Viggo Mortensen, Captain Fantastic Denzel Washington, Fences
I agree with longtime reader-Casey was sort of astonishing in a role that if played differently, would have been far from aggreable/like able- he breaks your heart(Williams did too on her brief role). I think he's got it.Gosling was great as always, and brought slot of depth... didn't see others yet
Andrew was amazing in Hacksaw Ridge & Silence. He should have been nominated last year for 99 homes and should have got nominated for The Social Network but he got snubbed.
I thought Andrew was nominated for the Social Network (maybe Golden Globe?) He was great, liked all the acting in that movie. I've only seen 3 of the 5 best actor, Casey, but the reveals in the past few months could sink his chances. I remember Russell Crowe in A Beautiful Mind, Denzel won that year and while he did a great job as the bad cop, RC was amazing in that role.
CA doesn't deserve the oscar. Sexual predators need to be shut down. And btw, a sexual predator who chooses a role designed to bring him everyone's sympathy, totally leaves a bad taste in my mouth, as it should everyone. There is nothing more despicable than evil hiding behind a mask of legitemacy. Denzel should win.
it's never just about the best. Politics always play a role. So let it fall on the moral side. If BOAN is disqualified, then CA needs to be as well. I'm not talking about someone who is just a drug addict or is a diva or is a sleaze or anything like that. This is about someone who has crossed the line and used his influence and power to gain sexual advantage. When we have a chance to out one of those, they need to be shut down.
Casey gave the best performance by a mile, but the rumors surrounding him could give it to Denzel. Fences was good, but what Casey did in manchester by the sea was phenomenal, he deserves it.
I'm really really hoping Affleck pulls out the win. Mostly so Kenneth Lonergon's movie gets the recognition it deserves. But also because I'm sick of the attempts to destroy individuals for crimes they've done in the past. Both Nate Parker and Affleck allegations were in years gone by and other had no further occurrences. Parker lucked out with an ignorant jury and Affleck's accusers accepted the payoff. Neither man has committed the same acts since. What happened to second chances for people? Leave these men alone!
Ryan Gosling
ReplyDeleteCasey was just stunning in manchester...he maybe an utter dick but props to his acting.
ReplyDeleteBecause I hope Casey Affleck loses, I'd like to see Denzel win, not Gosling.
ReplyDelete+1000000 Gosling was horrible in that mediocre garbage Meh Meh Land and I want CA to lose as well so anybody but those two.

ReplyDeleteLa La Land is the only one of these films I've seen. Viggo Mortensen is amazing and seemingly unaffected by celebrity, etc. I'd love to see him win.
ReplyDeleteCA was astounding in Manchester. I feel like Denzel could upset, and he definitely won't win but Viggo was very touching in Captain Fantastic!

ReplyDeleteI like Denzel as a person, therefore my vote is for him.
ReplyDeleteLots of glass houses here.
ReplyDeleteBest Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role is the category. Not least jackass or most moral individual.
Affleck had the best performance. Manchester was the best movie. But people are voting like this comment section this year.
If anything, Viggo was a close second.

ReplyDelete@shar Amen. If I had a vote I would give Manchester a sweep in actor, director and picture
ReplyDeleteViggo Mortensen. Just to teach the others humility. The man has always done his job without wanting the celebrity. Art for Art's sake. Kudos
