This former A++ list mostly movie actor outlived predictions, but even he knows he is on his last legs. He wants one more moment of glory, so, much like Debbie Reynolds is auctioning off all his memorabilia so the world will reflect on his career.
Burt Reynolds
Burt was NEVER +++. It must be awful to live in his mind and look back to what could have been. Failed marriages. No biological kids. Bankruptcy. Losing home, acting school, friends. A sad, sad way to end a selfish life. It's all his own doing. He started believing his own hype. He was never an actor. He was a personality.
ReplyDeleteI'd say he was for a brief moment in time. Deliverance, Smokey & the Bandit, Longest Yard, Cosmo. He was BIG Box Office.
ReplyDeleteAre ya kidding?!?!? Of course he was! How old are you???
ReplyDeleteBurt was definitely A++ for a time. Anyone that doesn't think so wasn't around in his prime.
ReplyDeleteYou must be extremely young. At one time, Burt Reynolds was A+++. He was huge.
ReplyDeleteIt's true that he was never much of an actor though. Just kind of showed up and played Burt most of the time.
ReplyDeleteBurt was A++ for most of the seventies, but most of his success was in bad movies. He could have had a better career and done some decent acting but he went for the box office instead. No one was bigger in the tabloids than him , either. He was the prototype for this kind of gossip, drug addiction, famous wives and girlfriends, accused of being gay, dying, having AIDS, you name it. That he lived this long is amazing, even to him.
ReplyDeleteThis is NOT an accurate description of Reynolds in his prime. You just sound bitter.
ReplyDeleteThat man was so yummi... 70's....
ReplyDeleteHa, I always refer to/think of him as 'Mr. Burt Reynolds' solely because Blanche called him that so many times on Golden Girls
ReplyDeleteI was never a fan (too young) but even I think he was A+++ for brief time.
ReplyDeleteBurt Reynolds absolutely was A+++ for a loooong time.
ReplyDeleteI Remember his centerfold in Cosmo like yesterday. And I loved his tv show Evening Shade too. Burt WAS prob A++++++.
ReplyDeleteI remember the centerfold when it came out and we did see all the movies when they came out in the 70s. He did a couple of great ones, Deliverance and The Longest Yard. He was definitely The Movie Star at that time. He could do no wrong.
ReplyDeleteBut there came a time when the sequels started to insult his fans. They were simply a way too get his cronies together and make money with a ridiculous plot--stopped respecting him and paying to see his movies.
Did enjoy a Evening Shade as mentioned.
Feel sorry he fell so far but his ego and vanity led him to become a hollow shell of what once was and what could have been.
Man, how high is the bar now for having lived a great life and being considered A+++ list in one's heyday?? He was and is world-famous and women wanted him/men wanted to be him for the better part of the '70s and '80s. The man has 184 acting credits on IMDb. He made some good movies and some bad movies. He was good looking and funny as fuck. Burt and Loni were the it couple for quite a long time. Best Friends (w/ Goldie Hawn), Cannonball Run, and many others are still fun to watch. Then there's Boogie Nights, ffs! If you live as long as he has, you're going to have some ups and downs, in your career and in life. Having failed marriages and not having any biological children doesn't mean his life was sad and selfish. Guarantee he's lived 1000 times more of a life than most people.
ReplyDelete75. He was A+ but no +++. He was the first Cosmo Man. He dated Dinah Shore and Sally Fields for publicity. His closest friends were gay. His films were amusing but no Full Metal Jacket quality. They were spoofs. I like Burt. He was very close to the Mayor of my hometown in the 80s and everyone in Savannah loves Burt. But that doesn't make him a triple + and on the same level as Tom Hanks. Get real, guys!
ReplyDeleteOne of the biggest stars on the 70's.A++
ReplyDeleteWhen my cousins 80 year-old grandmother passed away, we found the Burt Reynolds Cosmo centerfold under her mattress, along with a few muscle-man magazines.
