Today's Blind Items - The Show That Could Have Been

Someone wrote into to me and asked about a show that was canceled last year. It had such potential, so why was it canceled so soon they wanted to know. I actually wrote about the show in a different kind of way last year. There were so many moving parts behind the scenes that it had no chance of succeeding despite what it looked like from the outside.

It was a network show. Very short lived. it begins with the lead actress. An amazing person and an even better actress. Emmy winner/nominee. Multiple very popular hit shows in different formats. This was going to be her chance to be the star. Not just one of many, but the star. In her haste to be the star, she gave up another Emmy win/nomination. Plain and simple it would have been hers. Because she wanted to be the lead she didn't look at the fact that her male lead co-star was doing it for the paycheck, just like he does everything else. He is a workaholic. Tell him to be somewhere and he will be there and will show up on time and work hard. The thing is though, he only has one character and one tone to all his roles. That is why, for the most part his greatest successes have been as a voice over guy. Our actress got no say in the casting of that role. While working on the show, he also had five other projects and the producers told him he could do them all.

She also got no say in the casting of the guy who preferred to drink rather than act. This caused issues. Then, there were his what seemed like daily doctor appointments. There were two younger characters on the show, one of whom decided she was the biggest star on the show or had been led to believe that by her people so acted like that from day one. Plus, the producers and showrunner hinted she was going to be the focus of the show. All of this combined with another actress who was a bulimic and the whole thing was a disaster from start to finish. Canceling the show was putting it out of its misery.

Maybe Eva Longoria & Telenovela? With Zachary Levi being the 'voice' actor doing multiple other projects (he had a web series, video games, TV series, etc... and was demoted to 'recurring guest' despite being the 2nd biggest name on the show).

This makes more sense than my Eva Longoria guess. Warburton is everywhere as a VO guy.

  7. Yeah, Telenovela doesn't work - my understanding is she's good friends with Levi and wanted him there (so the "no say in casting" doesn't fit. He doesn't work consistently enough to be tagged a workaholic, though he was VERY busy at that time.

Oh Crowded makes so much more sense. Warburton voices everything my kids watch or play. I didn't think that show was great but the actress who played the wife was in a really great kindness blind a while ago (also amazing but not a lead onTbe Good Wife). I was going to say Grinder with Rob Lowe but Patrick Warburton has to be the answer with the kind co-star and younger cast members.

  11. Carrie is married to the amazing Michael Emerson. Just more proof that talent in Hollywood is sometimes secondary (or thirdary) to good looks and lack of acting skill

Miranda as the one who thought she was the star of the show, I'd guess, and Stacey Keach certainly looks like he'd fit as more interested in drinking than acting.

Thanks for read my message and posting that blind so fast, Enty

Feel sorry for her. She is just a nice person, and show has a lot of potential. I loved it. Some good episodes and she was always amazing. I’m a bit confused because I think that the younger actress who decided she was the biggest star on the show and the bulimic are the same actress. I can’t believe that a “nobody-knows” young actress thought she was the star of the show. I don't want to sound rough, but she was just showing her tits and nothing more. Colour me surprised.

Thanks again. You are awesome as ever.

    P. Warburton even voices a robot in the line for Star Tours at Disneyland...and he did the intro video for another ride...I forget which one. The guy is everywhere

    Definitely! Hits every point.
Really hope Carrie Preston finds something else. She's really a stand-out actress in everything she has ever done.

  18. Regardless. I watched the show. And I'll tell you why it flopped. IT SUCKED and its suckitude had nothing to do with the actors. Whatever was going on behind the scenes was not the slightest bit apparent onscreen. What was apparent onscreen was the most hack writing I've seen on a recent sitcom. It was total shit. I actually felt sorry for the actors trying to bring such hackneyed shit to life.

  20. Don't hold back, tell us what you really think! LOL You're completely wrong, BTW. The show was quite charming and should have been renewed. :)
