This soon to be A list mostly movie actress after spending the past few years relegated to A- list status has a new movie coming out which always makes me cynical about kindness items. Turns out though, she does the same thing every year, movie or not. She walks into a community center by her home and drops off a check for $100K. She has been doing it for almost a decade.

ReplyDeleteJust because you don't like someone, doesn't mean they aren't doing good deeds. Actresses in particular get a lot of flack either way, she's promoting her film, she's campaigning for an Oscar. If she doesn't, she's not doing her job and is a stuck up diva.

ReplyDelete@Derek Harvey, that is so right. You are not allowed to be all three, especially in Hollywood. The other thing is,she did this with no fanfare, while many others make up a charity for tax reasons, PR, and to put relatives on the payroll. I 'm afraid I'll attract trolls,but being Jewish doesn't help. Remember when Scarlett promoted the Israeli company Soda stream?
ReplyDeleteYup I remember -I do not see Scarjo in the same light as Nat (many reports saying she is the opposite of a girls-girl) but I respected her for defending her decision to promote Sodastream and not back-down on her decision. As oppose to say-Lena Dunham who says stupid shit w/out thinking and apologizes the next day for it- every. single. time...

SO irresponsible and close-minded.
And yet, tax break or not, putting a dent in her net worth or not, $100,000 is still a hell of a lot of money to donate, it's more money than anyone here is giving, and it'smuch more money than that community center would have had without her donation. It's called doing a mitzvah and it probably coincides with one of the Jewish High Holy Days.

ReplyDeleteI would love to see others (not just Hollywood, but anyone who has the means to do so) step up and do something similar.
If she does it for 1 place, who's to say she doesn't give to more places? If I was that wealthy it would feel good to give the same 5 or 10 times over.
ReplyDeleteI met her a couple of times, she's quiet, polite and she oozes class.
ReplyDeleteHer forehead is large, but that's forgivable, considering she's playing with a full deck behind it.
I think this is beautiful Everyone should do what they can, depending on their circumstances. To some $10 or $1 is huge. To others $100k is not going to impact them much (if at all). I do know, personally, that giving makes me feel SO GOOD. I feel guilty because the gift, I feel, makes me feel BETTER than it is even worth. (We had a discussion about this in a Psych class - whether people gave to give or gave to feel good - and the bottom line was it didn't matter). Kudos to her, and to anyone who shares their time or money for worthy causes. Whether it is 1$, 10$, $1million, or hours of your time, it is fabulous.
