Blind Item #6 - Kindness
This A list athlete seems to get injured every year but also seems to somehow regain the form that makes her one of the best athletes in the world every year. I'm not saying she has given up her thirst for publicity, but I will say that she spends a few hours a week during her season in different cities going to schools and talking to female students in their own language mind you about how they can achieve anything and doing other empowerment things too. She also hands out tons of free tickets and gear to teen girls to get them to try her sport. Oh, and although she gets her biggest sponsor to pay for the gear, she doesn't let them give any of their stuff to the kids. She also doesn't ever have any cameras around other than the cell phone cameras of students.

ReplyDeleteDoes ego hurt count?
ReplyDeleteIf so, Hope Solo, yeah right.
This line makes me think that the subject of this Blind is from a country where they (must) learn several languages while they are in school. (So, not anyone who is American.)
ReplyDelete"...and talking to female students in their own language mind you..."
So, my guess is: Maria Yuryevna Sharapova -- the tall blonde tennis player.
Besides, she is known for her charity work while recuperating from injuries.
Lindsay Vonn is in Europe quite a bit for skiing so I'll go with her.
ReplyDeleteLindsey Vonn (married name) speaks German, but neither Germany or Austria (Kraut is spoken is some parts of Poland, Hungary and others, but not too much) are exactly countries that need female empowerment, if this were her, good, but does not go to the most needy segment of population.
ReplyDeleteVonn gets injured every year. It's her.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking someone in a sport that requires minimal equipment, so either tennis or soccer. Skiing is a sport for the well-off. Just having skis won't do you any good if you can't afford lift tickets.
ReplyDeleteAlex Morgan? Totally sounds like her but I don't think she's multi-lingual. Nike gives her a ton of gear, she's written books for girls, the WNT has the "SheBelieves" tour.
ReplyDeleteSerena Williams. I know she also speaks french at least. She also has been injured a lot.
ReplyDeleteTotally Serena. We are talking about "the best athlete in the world". She might be talking to girls in France or French speaking African nations.
ReplyDeleteVonn. Always injured, always comes back, and her sport has a season. Tennis, like most other sports, is year round.
ReplyDeleteOn this site Serena would probably be referred to as A+ list or permanent A list.
