This A- list mostly movie actress who is an Academy Award winner/nominee has spent most of her career trying to convince the public and studios she was one person. Apparently though, according to her own words, she is the exact opposite. As a result, she has almost zero work lined up as studios figure out what kind of career she will have moving forward.
Anna Kendrick
so is this regarding she's made out to be a sweetheart and is really a cold-blooded bitch?
ReplyDeleteShe's been pretending to be "hot".
ReplyDeleteNever heard of her being rude or bitchy. But then again, I don't read blinds every single day and may have missed a negative blind about her. I think she should be in comedies. Kendrick is funny! Maybe they thought she was more musical, but instead, she's more comedic? I have no idea. Saw her on WWHL though and she was fun - totally going w/ the flow.
ReplyDeleteROFL!!! Best comment of the day.
ReplyDeleteSounds as if the completion bond insurance companies have told the studios that they won't insure any productions in which she's involved.
ReplyDeleteThat, my friends, is an Instant career killer - if that happens.
Her career will be middling and underwhelming regardless.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I gathered from the original thread and the couple people who read her book, she gives off "sweetheart who is down to earth" and is pretty self-absorbed and may define earth as something different then the rest of us.
ReplyDeleteI read a book review that basically chalked it all up to "typical millenial word vomit that rapidly approaches TMI"
Although Kathy Griffen slams her in her book for being a bitch so who knows
Oh, do explain "completion bond insurance" if you would...never heard of it before
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I think her choice to turn down the big studio offers post "Up in the Air" because they were too much like her character in that was a huge mistake. JLaw proved that you do a few of those, studios see you're reliable, and the other roles come flooding in and THEN you can take you pick
ReplyDeleteNever bought that sweatheart polished image and not many did too! Im glad she thinks she is a psicho bit*h. At least the reality is not boring like her movies!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't know anything about her personality, but she isn't much of an actress. She is in the same category as Emma Watson and Dakota Johnson. I am always baffled they somehow find work. They're not super attractive (by Hollywood standards) and don't sparkle on the screen as Emma Stone or JLaw do. Totally agree with middling and underwhelming assessment above
ReplyDeleteDoubt if that't the case with her. Isn't that for the serious addicts & alcoholics?
ReplyDeleteNot everyone would agree that JLaw "sparkles" onscreen.
ReplyDeleteIs it true that "Go Troll Yourself" is really No One You Know? Just curious. Why did you change your name, KnoOne?
ReplyDeleteKendrick is not hot enough to get away with acting like a bitch. No wonder she is peddling her book, she knows her income will dry up soon.
ReplyDeleteI highly doubt she announced she was a birch and didn't want to play the sweetheart anymore. Possibly gay? What other roles are there for women? Maybe she wants to do music? She has an amazing voice
ReplyDeleteShe looks like a human and a hawk had a baby.
ReplyDeleteThere's a story that just came out this week where Kathy Griffin recalled a very rude encounter she had with Anna. And when you add that to the part in her book where Anna openly admits that she shit talks co-stars behind their backs on set, well, you can see the cracks are beginning to show.
ReplyDeleteHer fans will still love her no doubt, because she IS nice to them. She treats her fans well. But if you're a regular bloke, don't expect to ever get a warm reception from her. I think she even openly admits this. There's a whole segment in her book where she says she doesn't aspire to be nice.
There is some good in the book. She does open up about drug use, and how she's pretty clean in that regard. ie: she's never done coke and even quit weed a few years ago. So she does have a clean lifestyle, it's just that... she comes across so unlikable, and VERY full of herself. I've heard people call her relatable, well, yes, I'm sure Anna Kendrick is relatable if you yourself aren't a very nice person.
Personally, I don't care if someone is that nice or not. When you got people kissing your ass 24/7 it probably gets annoying at times. The problem (getting back to this blind) is that Anna has built up a career on being that super sweet girl next door, and she is not that. I came away from reading her book realizing I had no idea how massive her ego was before. She uses self-depreciaton as a mask to cover that. But make no mistake about it, this woman loves attention and has a very high opinion of herself.
I think her roles are much the same. I don't mind her. I know she was feuding with someone on Pitch set. Regardless, she's made enough money this far that she wouldn't need to work again. She's in a LOT of movies this year. If she's a bitch, so be it. That's on her and shows she has some issues. Why is she never dating anyone??
ReplyDeleteHola Poe,
ReplyDeleteWant to caveat this before asking because text does not convey tone, this is an inquiry not a trolling or slam.
Can you explain more how she comes off unlikeable in her book and the massive ego comment? I'm not intending to shell out 20 bucks to buy her book so some context would be nice
She does date. She doesn't like it to be in the public. She dated the director Edgar Wright for 3 or 4 years & she's been dating a cinematographer she worked with right after Edgar for 3 or 4 years. There's been a few times the paps get a shot of her out with the boyfriend, but she tries to go to places where that's less likely to happen. The person she was feuding with on Pitch Perfect is Rebel Wilson who doesn't seem to get along with any person she's worked with.
ReplyDeleteShe's flat out said she doesn't want a music career. She likes to sing in musicals, but she doesn't want to do an album. The only people that think Anna's gay are her large lesbian following that decided that 1 of Anna's characters was gay, so now they want Anna to be gay. She's only dated guys, but they won't accept it so they keep talking about her being gay. It's like they think if they talk about it enough Anna's going to come out & say, "Well I wasn't gay or bisexual my whole life, but you fans have talked me into it!"
ReplyDeleteShe's never really been a "sweetheart" either. She's always taken parts where she's playing a crazy character or somebody that's a little antisocial. The sweetheart type of actress is somebody like Julia Roberts or Meg Ryan in the 90's. Sweet isn't the girl that talks about subjects that are not sweet things to talk about. I have a little more free time than most people get, so I know a little bit more about her than most, but there's always a chance she's never showed the world what she's really like, but I don't hear many stories about her being a bitch or being hard to work with. I've only been hearing that since a feud with Rebel Wilson started getting articles published about it. Below I say why that isn't proof that Anna's a bitch. Rebel doesn't get along with anyone she works with. If there's feuding going on Rebel is likely the reason for that feud.
There were quite a few things that made her seem unlikable to me. The smack talking co-stars behind their backs thing, the constant humble bragging and name dropping, the way she treated people at times in her life, always thinking the world revolved around her and not taking into account other people's feelings. She comes across immature. She even says at one point she's lazy and immature and well, she's right. It just didn't feel genuine to me. It felt like she was boasting most of the time for how awesome her life is. Just my feelings anyway.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I do agree with is that this isn't a reveal. I do think that early in her career, Anna was marketed as the sweet girl next door, and she does "sometimes" play off that when it suits her needs. I think it's safe to say that since the Mike & Dave press tour, that sweet girl next door thing should have been killed off for good, yet I still see articles referencing her as that. Why? I don't know. But we can all agree this isn't a revelation. So in that sense this blind without question is fake.
ReplyDeletesweetheart vs. bitch: make up ur mind, anna...
ReplyDeleteSome people are irony and snark impaired. She's great, talented, and her audience gets her.
ReplyDeleteAnna's time as the sweet girl next door wasn't very long. She's been talking the way she talks in interviews & tweets the way she's tweeted since 2009/2010. She can't control how a writer decides to describe Anna when they meet to do an interview. I think some people are under the impression that Anna sat down & decided she wanted to make this public persona, but my brother has said that any publicist, any manager, or agent would not make such a crazy risk to tell their client to say the things she says or act the way she does.
ReplyDeleteMy brother said the odds of that being successful are so low that no "team" would allow their client to do that. They would quit so they are never associated with that person when it all falls apart. I'm not sure if I'm explaining this well. The point is that I think we see a pretty close version of the real Anna. Like anyone that becomes famous she's probably being careful about some stories she doesn't want the world to know & trying to hide some qualities of herself that she knows no one else is going to understand or like. She may know there's qualities about herself that people would not like, but I don't think she's going as far as to try to create an image as the girl next door.
Anytime I've watched an interview & the reporter calls her something like the girl next door she might give a half hearted smile, but it's always looked to me that she doesn't like being referred to that way. I don't think she's ever thought of herself as a sweetheart girl next door. That's all magazines, talk shows, & probably some marketing people at a movie studio. I do think you should try to listen to the audio book. I'm sure there's ways to download it without paying.
Anna Kendrick is perfect in "Mr. Right" with Sam Rockwell. THats all I know. She is probably pegged to be sweet and all that just because she is tiny and cute and quick. But in this movie, she gets to be herself, kind of.....quirky, smart-assy, deadly, and beautifully sexy. I love her in the movies. Don't care what kind of private person she is. She is great, paired up with kooky Sam Rockwell!
ReplyDeleteAnna and her mom must be extremely bored to be commenting so much on this post.
ReplyDeleteAnna has always come across like a c u next Tuesday to me. But the painfully thin lips and rabbit teeth don't help either.
I don't know that I'm ready to discount the blind based on something a friend of mine calls "speed of corporate recognition". Her context is much different but she's a major revenue driver at a HUGE company. Basically, the phenomenon is the speed at which a corporation or corporate culture realizes that something is "a thing", either for making money or losing money.
ReplyDeleteTo give an easy example of this, take South Park and Simpson. Simpsons has a huge lead time per episode so they don't do many timely jokes or event relevant jokes. South Park has a really short lead time and the ability to modify quickly so many of their jokes are within a couple weeks of relevance.
Movie studios are amazingly slow at this, and have the added hinderance of having a lot of voices to answer to. There is a difference between "girl next door who is a bit weird and sarcastic" and "typical millennial spouting off and closing in on TMI". If the studios start to lean towards the latter and start classifying Kendrick that way the cost vs benefit analysis shifts away from her favor.
Looking at her movies of the past couple years, there is a clear shift in roles she takes (or gets) towards indy crapfests. She still scores musical roles, and she has a couple bigger movie roles like "The Accountant" but they are smaller and not really career makers.
If the book includes things that would lead the execs to think she's not the sort for those bigger movies, I could see them start to dry up. Also, to what Yep's brother was saying, Kendrick's people don't seem to have much control over her choices or even influence..."Digging for Fire", "Happy Christmas", "The Hollars", these are "well I have nothing else to work on" choices not "OMG this is the role for my career" choices.
I have to wonder a bit about that just because it's one of the areas where things she says don't always match up.
ReplyDeleteI was reading the Times and there was an interview where she talks about her favorite books, one of which is basically an anthropological position paper about why people shouldn't be sexually monogamous. Basically, they split out sexual fidelity and social fidelity (social being who you are in a more-then-sexual relationship with).
One praise I saw about her book is about her addressing "The number conversation" (the fixation of dudes on the comparison of how many people you've each slept with) and how she refuses to discuss it and instead focuses on discussion of monogamy/fidelity/relationship goals/etc. [I note that I agree with her stance because the number conversation is some bullshit]
If I was a studio, that would red flag when combined with some of the spurious rumors that have gone around (specifically the Twilight set and the Affleck cheating rumors). Nothing makes a production bog down and start to suck like that sort of drama. And society seems to not be ready to accept poly as okay. So her reservations about sharing her dating life could be a hinderance on this front (like how they cause so many people to think like Sherm does that she doesn't date when she does)
"Completion Bond" is an insurance policy that the studio buys before putting a film into production. Since the studio is forking over tens (if not hundreds) of millions of dollars, they want to be covered on the back end - in case "something'' happens the halts production.
ReplyDeleteAnd, yes the insurance companies maintain a list of "actors" they will NOT insure if they are involved. (That's for Rebel below.) These would be actors, directors, producers with known drug, health problems.))
When "Prizzi's Honor" was filming in the 1980's, John Huston was directing. The Completion Bond Insurance company required the studio to hire and keep on set a back up director just in case John -- who was very old and in ill health at the time -- wasn't able to complete the filming of the movie.
PS: Absolutely long postings on this blind item!!
Thanks! And "completion bond adjuster" sounds like the sort of position that should lead to tell all memoirs...I mean, the crap these people must know.
ReplyDeleteTalented actress with smarts and a sense of humour, might be a closet case though.
ReplyDeleteThe book you're talking about is Sex at Dawn, and Anna never said it was one of her favourite books. Just that she read it after someone recommended it to her. She actually called it dense. She reads a lot. She's read books on Nazi's and Charles Manson, does that mean she agrees with their philosophies? Of course not. She's been with a total of two guys in the last 7 years. The Affleck stuff isn't even a legit rumor. One fringe clickbait site made that up and even admitted so. And it was right after that when the nanny stuff broke. Anna's bf was even in town shooting The Accountant with her. There was never any truth to that. I never heard any Twilight rumors but I imagine they're BS as well as she talks about that in her book and how she was only on set for a couple of weeks and spent almost all her time locked in her hotel room reading The Shining.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that's made clear in Anna's book is that she has a strong set of rules that she lives by. This comes up quite a bit throughout her book. Her love of rules and how square she is. She also wrote at one point that she will never put herself in a dangerous situations that could get her in trouble. ie: you'll never see her involved in a cheating scandal, or getting caught with drugs, etc. I've been critical of her in some ways (being unlikable at times, too self-absorbed, etc.) but one thing I'll say about Anna is that she's very smart. For whatever flaws she has in her personality, she does have a good head on her shoulders and is very aware of the trappings of Hollywood and knows to avoid them.
She seems obnoxious. Not interested in her beady eyes AT ALL.
ReplyDeleteAnna Kendrick is going to be fine. She has PP3 lined up and will get good coin from that movie alone. She doesn't appear to live a high expense lifestyle so PP3 gives her financial leeway to do what she wants to do. We should all be so fortunate.
ReplyDeleteHer book is authentic and honest. Yes, she can be an asshole just like anyone else can be. A fully realized human being. Imagine that! The only people complaining seem to be the ones who want her to be something she is not. (Quite frankly, no one truly is)
So take your "wife material" crap and go home. She's got her own money, career and life to lead.
