This up and coming "band" is nominated for a handful of Grammy Awards this year. Everyone is worried the lead singer will commit suicide before the awards because he is that depressed and not allowed to take meds.
Definitely Tyler from TOP. Tried to commit suicide before I believe. Ultra Christian family. His lyrics focus on mental health a lot and the way he feels torn about his religion. I like him/them a lot and I hope he gets better.
Oh wow. They are at the top of their game right now. I hope this isn't true.
sidenote twist to this blind: wasn't it twenty one pilots that was banned from award shows because they revealed the truth about award shows (basically, bought, bargained, favored and paid for).
I suffer from depression, take meds, and am a Christian. There's never been (that I've found) anything prohibiting me or shaming me from medicating. Odds are, this is Christian Science doctrine which doesn't advocate medications/treatments. Which is sad. I pray and do the best I can with it and I've found medications helps as well so there's never been any shame or stigma heaped on me for doing so. I sincerely hope he receives the help (in whatever form or fashion) he so deservedly needs before something drastic happens.
is he allowed to smoke/eat pot at least? it's technically not medicine and is natural. ...sometimes just getting yourself in a different mindset helps put things in perspective. you know...lil' attitude adjustment. /grin/
"Christian Scientist" is Scientology - not a Christian religion at all. They've banned anything to do with psychiatry (or psychology), including medications, since L Ron Hubbard was diagnosed as Narcissistic Personality Disorder (think that was the dx.). Sounds like a fairly accurate diagnosis to me!
Yes he spilled the beans on the American Music Awards. But the Grammys are only voted on by industry members. Which is why having a grammy is so important to artist. They want the recognition from their peers. Which is also why it was so funny Justin Bieber get so butt hurt over being passed over. He acted like sales was a reason to win not quality of the music. the Grammy's I believe is still a legit award to win.
I have some first hand knowledge of the Joseph family and they are not against medication per se, they just believe that your faith in god should be enough to get anyone out of depression and that medicating means you don't have faith in god. From what I've heard Tyler has been torn in half for years about his faith and wanting to go his own way. He's tried to commit suicide before, that's true and his family was equally devastated and disappointed in him.
This is sad. Holding On To You has always been my favourite TOP song, even though I'm not a Christian. It's a beautiful song about trying to hold on to your faith while suffering depression and trying to turn your life around instead of ending it. I think it's fairly obvious to those who follow Tyler that he's more than mildly depressed. Hope he gets through it.
I mean, the band name is literally a reference to a man who commits suicide after causing the deaths of twenty one pilots. Arthur Miller's "All My Sons".
Twenty One Pilots Tyler Joseph
ReplyDelete"Band"- Theres only 2 people in the band.
He's very religious. Maybe Christian Scientist?
This was my guess too. I was trying to figure out what religion might play a role.
ReplyDeleteLukas Graham
ReplyDeleteTwenty One Pilots have 5 nominations, Lukas Graham only has 2 nominations.

ReplyDelete"Christian" "Science" would prohibit him from taking medication.

ReplyDeleteChristian Science has absolutely NOTHING to do with Scientology.
ReplyDeleteChristian Science is NOT Scientology.
ReplyDeleteChristian Science is far less deviant than Scio...but no less dangerous.
ReplyDeletePlease please please don't be Tyler Joseph, I adore him and he is much loved. There's help out there, Tyler, don't struggle on your own :( xxxx

ReplyDelete@snark: what a wildly uninformed comment. Read a fucking book or something.
ReplyDeleteIt might not be exactly like scientology, but sounds exactly like a religious cult, nonetheless.

ReplyDeleteIt's the music that is getting him through all of it. If Tyler didn't have music he would not be here anymore.

ReplyDeleteThat's just sad. Meds do help. Religion isn't the answer to everything.
