Today's Blind Items - Going Deep Out Of Pocket - Kindness - Anniversary Month

This singer has nearly gone broke multiple times because of his generosity. I first met him way back in the day. He was just becoming a star. In his corner of the entertainment world he is probably a permanent A lister. He is foreign born and a multiple Grammy Award nominee/winner. He came to the US illegally when he was a teen. Since he has made it big, he has taken certain causes under his wing. Yes, I used the word wing because it is the day before Thanksgiving. Also, it is holiday related. Thanksgiving included. Our singer noticed that some of his cousins never made it to holiday celebrations. The reason? The owners of farms treated Thanksgiving as a normal Thursday. They might take off slightly early, but it was still a Thursday and farming needed to be done. Enter our singer. he started meeting with farmers and discovered that about half the farmers would actually be willing to not work on Thanksgiving and other holidays but that the workers wanted to work because they needed the money. The farmers couldn't afford to pay for no work being done. The profit margins were too thin. So, our singer stepped in and paid the salaries for about 100 farm workers that year for Thanksgiving and Christmas. From those humble beginnings, he now not only pays for about 2500 farmers not to work those two days, he also spends tens of thousands of more dollars to buy them all meals for their families for each of those days.

This is awesome. Farm workers break their backs to bring us our food and for a pittance.

  7. Ricky Martin is Puerto Rican, so he never was illegal; Luis Miguel didn't really go to the US until famous

I see some problem with this: Farmers work with animals, they may not need that day's income, but the animals need to eat, be cleaned and all that stuff. If the farmers do not do it, animals suffer and even die.

I was thinking Dave Matthews (born in South Africa) but I don't think he came to the US illegally. I could see him doing something like this, though.

Farmers do not all work with animals, many just grow crops. I don't think any animals are going to suffer, I'm sure if they do work with animals, they make sure sure they're being taken care of, since they are the source of income. And you call Americans stupid?

Along with blowing a few million dollars of on/off girlfriend Christine McVie's money... while at the same time fathering a child with cousin Mike Love's daughter.

Yanni and Ramtha probably don't care about the farm workers.

    I like Santana for this.

Luis Miguel, it says he has cousins that are farm workers, so he is likely Mexican or Puerto Rican, and Carlos Santa was famous long before Enty would have seen him be famous. Luis is very quit about his good deeds, so we wouldn't know about it.

If he came her illegally, how would he be Puerto Rican, they're American citizens. And it's nice that he wants to pay their days pay, but if they're not American citizens, Thanksgiving is just another Thursday to them. It's not a Mexican holiday.

  23. Mexican field workers do celebrate Thanksgiving. Although they do not observe the holiday in Mexico, they are very proud to be here and try to adopt our holidays. The field workers at the company i work for get the entire day off. The field supervisors plan their pick around the day off. The weds before thanksgiving is normally a longer day as they go into the next day's harvest. Friday is also a bit longer as they begin by finishing what they could not on Weds. The coolers where trucks load also observe this holiday. We plan for all trucks and customers not to expect any activity that day. I would love to know the name of this generous and giving soul. These employees deserve so much more.
