Lenny Letter Blind
Here it is in full. Below are the portions dealing with the blind.
Last night, after wrap on location, Lena and I and a few co-workers went into town to eat. We ran into a small portion of the crew of another TV show that shoots nearby and introduced ourselves. Within five minutes, a producer/director of that show had cornered Lena. Though the rest of us were are all in vaguely separate conversations, we were able to hear what was said.
Or shown in this case: an iPhone photo of a mutual friend with a cock next to her face, ostensibly a still from his TV show but shown at a completely inappropriate time. It saddens me to say this isn't the part of the story that even upset me. This is fairly common behavior with strangers and Lena. In my most generous moments, I can see their nervousness, their familiarity with her frank sexual work, and their desire to make a connection. Our Girls writer Sarah Heyward said to the director, "Of course, that's the only kind of picture you can show Lena Dunham."
From here things really started to devolve. The director asked Lena to have dinner alone the following night with an actress on the show he works on. Not because he thought they should meet, but because he wanted Lena to persuade the actress to "show her tits, or at least some vag" on TV. Surely Lena could make a compelling argument. After all, he continued, "You would show anything. Even your asshole."
This is something a man felt compelled to say to a Golden Globe–winning actor, showrunner, and best-selling author who just happens to be female. So it's easy to speculate what might be said to women working with him, under him, dependent on his approval. Despite Lena's obvious discomfort, he then went on to critique and crudely evaluate the bodies of all the women on his show.
The Affair films some of their scenes in Williamsburg, somebody from that?
ReplyDeleteSteve Levitan/Modern family- maybe Ariel winter for the girl? The GG winner author is female?
ReplyDeleteSo, let me see if I get this right. Lena Dunham hangs her whole career on the shock value she can create by writing and acting lewd scenes . . . and then it's shocking that people think she might be interested in lewdness? Suddenly, she's transformed into a celebrated ARTISTE, a "Golden Globe–winning actor, showrunner, and best-selling author who just happens to be female" who is made uncomfortable by directors who want to film sex scenes?
ReplyDeleteok I'll go with it--Jeffrey Reiner--director
ReplyDeleteWitney-Julia Gordani Telles the actress (had to check her age).
SL is the show runner I meant
ReplyDeleteGad, that whole blind put me off my tea.
ReplyDeleteWhy would Modern Family show vag?
ReplyDeletei thought it was james franco's new show
ReplyDeleteI don't particularly like her, but that makes me feel so bad for her! This really needs to stop! She's a woman that writes a tv show where people have sex/are naked, it doesn't mean she wants to talk about it or see random cocks while she's out with friends eating dinner! Some men need to learn how to communicate better, this angers me!!!!
ReplyDeletetechnically not in this case, It was her producing partner who wrote this. Konner is talking about something she witnessed. Lena's opinion or reaction is not in this letter.
ReplyDeleteLemon Swizzle: What you do in your job doesn't give people outside your job permission to do anything.
ReplyDeleteI may swallow loads back behind the Burger King for a Whopper with Cheese, but that don't give you permission to touch my kitty if I meet you at the grocery store.
Lemon swizzle is on the $, as per the usual.
ReplyDeleteABC would certainly be taking their content in a whole new direction
ReplyDeleteSo some poor hapless director got stuck talking to Lena Dunham? I mean, sure thats a bad night by anyone's standards, but suck it up, Dude! Worse things have happened to people.
ReplyDeleteLol- no idea what i reading when I read it!
ReplyDeleteAll I got out of it was there was a Lena (I thought was an alias didn't it put it together with Dunham ) just know Levitan is a creeper...
:(
Surely Lena could make a compelling argument. After all, he continued, “You would show anything. Even your asshole.”
ReplyDeleteHave I understood that he told dungham that she would show her body? God assist us if her naked body is ever shown to an audience, That would result in that line from Roger Corman movie being repeated all over the world: "If thine eye offends thee... pluck it out!"
Please! Please! Please! Pay attention to me - Lena, actual author of letter. She's such a pompous bore. She learned everything she knows from Apatow (whiny white narcissists) and SITC (whiny white narcissists with a steaming side of borish in stupid sauce). The NAoOC got it right, the aholes have to be at least semi-conscious of thier faults. In fact everything JLD does gets it right. Bye Girl(s).

ReplyDeleteLena Dunham is beyond gross and obnoxious
That is an epically bad guess even for you. In such a hurry to answer first you did not even read the whole thing and are wrong. Again. Well done.
ReplyDeleteI keep saying "Manhattan b4 Giuliani: less white, more interesting". This medicore sociopath is a perfect example.
ReplyDeleteWoman in 'can't take a joke' shocker.
ReplyDeleteSadly it has already happened.
ReplyDeleteThe guy was treating Lena like one of the boys. Because she does nudity and over shares in her books and writing, he assumed he could speak that way to her. He would have spoken to a man this way and there is no story.
ReplyDeleteI didn't guess first, not in a hurry, so WRONG as usual yourself "Go Away"*snort laugh*. Rather have an "epic" bad guess once in awhile than be an "epic" miserable douche who has to resort to trolling people on a gossip site dear.
ReplyDelete:)
I can't bring myself to care about LD being offended. She's dreadful.
ReplyDeleteI just copied I'll read this later on my phone that's way too FUCKIN long to sit and read I'm sure it's a drama filled piece only someone in "I'll steal your soul" Hollywood could come up with
ReplyDelete"I was sick of protecting people from their own behavior, and I refuse to do it anymore." So why not say who it was?
ReplyDeleteAnd what Lena Dunham says/does is one thing, but to try to get her to convince another woman to show her tits on camera is another. That shit ain't right.
Perhaps this should be a lesson to Lena about the faux feminism that she's peddling. If this guy can get the mixed message, then the message ain't right. Also, the public knows her nudity is directly due to her father's "art," not a politics or feminism.
ReplyDeleteJune,
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous comment! Thank you saying this an putting it so well!
Have to agree with Lemon Swizzle on this one.
ReplyDeleteSuper +
ReplyDeleteThe fuck it does. Once ur established as a dirty whore, well. u a dirty whore. This here said nuthin bout touchin, aye june? Thems only words he used, no touchin. Now ur an advocate? Bitch plz
ReplyDeleteI don't care for Lena Dunham's works or the person. She does however strikes me as someone without boundaries and who behaves accordingly. I do however think the producer was wrong. When will she denounce him as a violator of her personal space and fine ears.
ReplyDelete@Tricia13 @Sandybrook don't take that asshat who trolls you both too seriously. It's Derick or his partner in fuckery Malibu. They are so bored after being called out here as trolls and such they desperate.
ReplyDeletePlus-Tricia 13 you guess most blinds right and so quick it's scary and Sandybrook you rule!
You are right Sandybrook, at the end of the original blind it says something about a lobster roll which is the name of the restaurant that the two main characters own on the show. And to all of you vile people going off on Lena Dunham below 1. She did not write the blind her director Jenny Konner wrote it. 2. If you read the actual blind she explains that there's a difference between a writers room where it is safe to be creative in your own way then having some sleazy director try and convince an actress to take her clothes off. Just because Lena chooses to take her clothes off doesn't mean she would want any part in convincing another woman who doesn't feel comfortable to do so. It should be up to the individual especially for a tv show where it wasn't in the script that she had initially sign on to do.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget admitted child molestor is part of her resume.
ReplyDeleteShe's quite a tool.
>be reading thread.
ReplyDeleteawww shit; Trump's winning this thing, isn't he?
*more crimeridden. 1970's NYC was notoriously bad.
ReplyDeleteJesus what a stupid fucking guess.
ReplyDeleteIf my entire career to date was based on having my tits out in every other scene of my show . . . yeah, I think I give up the right to be shocked -- SHOCKED! -- that another director would want to sidle up to me to discuss getting one of his actresses comfortable with nudity. The fact that her castmate, or whoever the fuck that is bitching about it, is pearl clutching on the GOLDEN GLOBE WINNING ARTISTE'S behalf explains so much about the special snowflake generation.
ReplyDeleteDuh- it was DEREK RUES!!
ReplyDeleteExcellent guess! Oh and we saw Josh Stamberg's business (actually I read in an interview it was a stand-in schlong - such a shame!) on that show, so they're down with the full frontal. I hope not though - it's my favorite show!
ReplyDeleteAgree, this could have been an open letter to this guy,she is protecting him while saying she refuses to do it.
ReplyDeleteYou do know that line is from the bible right? You must be the only one who knows who she is but hasn't seen her naked, .It can't be unseen, I never saw the show, but the pictures turn up in every story.
ReplyDeleteAnd you must be a john, to know a "dirty whore" when you see her at the grocery store, right? So we can name you and shame you in the store, the churge, your sons school, bracuse you are a john anywhere. Right?
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm the only one here who is shocked to learn that cock shots are nonchalantly referred to as "stills from a TV show", and not "stills from a hardcore porn movie".
ReplyDeleteI guess I shouldn't have gotten rid of cable about eight years ago. I never see that sort of stuff on PBS.
