August 27, 2016

This stand up comedian was considered the founder of stand up comedy. He was also perhaps the most racist person to ever achieve A list status.

But back in the 20s racism and anti-semitic behavior was a lot more common and acceptable in some areas than the shit that had been hiding in the shadows until the last 3 or 4 years in America.

Later married to Barbara Stanwyck. Their marriage is sometimes rumored to be the inspiration for the classic "A Star Is Born".

And he was also allegedly Stanwyck's first "beard" marriage, although they may have been bearding for each other. She later famously married Robert Taylor of course - bearding for each other again! - at the direct order of MGM head Louis Mayer, whom she count NOT afford to cross. The publicity stories about their "torrid affair" etc are as phony as the endless Tracy/Hepburn stuff.

Not likely. He was a wife beater, some on the original blind said they were bearding each other, and between that and Barbara being a more valued star, the powers that be got rid of him.

@Sandy. That''s probably the ONLY good thing to come out of this election. The skeletons coming out of America's closet are eye-opening for a lot of folks who thought this was looooong behind us. oh well....

Also they were married in the late 20s, when Stanwyck was quite young.
