Blind Items Revealed #6
December 24, 2015
This B+ list mostly television actress on a hit network show is plugging a charity big time this holiday season. First, she is getting paid for it which is ridiculous. Second, she has not even given one dime to the charity so she must not believe in it all that much.
Sarah Hyland/Toys For Tots
Not everybody who gives time to a charity gives money to the charity. I didn't when I did some volunteer work in NY back in the day. Of course Sarah isn't exactly doing volunteer work.
ReplyDeleteIt's all for show -- 'she's acting' like she cares about underprivileged children.
ReplyDeleteSame here. It was understood that in lieu of money I was donating my time which, I felt, was worth something. Without volunteers, most charities would be up grits creek and they know it. Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?
ReplyDeleteAnd she has the disposable income to make a good donation if she wanted to.
ReplyDeleteShe's just a See You Next Tuesday.
I have never, EVER heard of a charity paying a celebrity for an endorsement, and I've been in the non-profit industry for almost 20 years. Therefore I have difficulty believing all these stories of pay-to-play. They would certainly have paid her travel and expenses, but I am sure she received no other compensation for her time. Also, Toys for Tots is a very reputable charity. I don't see them needing to "buy" celebrity endorsements.
ReplyDeleteI've read that many celebrities don't give money to charities they are associated with. They feel that lending their name is enough. However, being paid to endorse a charity is another matter.
ReplyDeleteWhen a celebrity is associated with a charity, it helps the image of the celebrity as well, so frankly, they should NOT accept money for it (at the very least), and if the workload involved to tape, promote, etc is so much that they want to be paid, they should take less and/or donate some of it. Otherwise, stop pretending to care for publicity points.
ReplyDeleteNo, most celebrities actually give money to charities they believe in or that have touched their lives in some way, often quite generously. Not everyone makes a big show of it or calls the paps.
ReplyDeleteThe ones who think "lending their name is enough" are miserly assholes.
Right? I can't imagine it would be very difficult for Toys for Tots to line up any number of celebrities willing to donate a bit of time for endorsements around Christmastime. And if they had made the decision to pay somebody to do it, wouldn't they go for a bigger name than Sarah Hyland? I don't believe it for a second.
ReplyDeleteNow THAT you may actually know something about. Being a miserly asshole, that is.
