This aging former A+ list singer who one could argue is permanent A list is using every excuse in the book to cover for his drug addiction. Pills mostly.
Daryl Hall(who I love and is perm A to me is touring again. Last tour he announced he had Lyme disease(which he may) but said it made him really tired and hard to perform sometimes. Or Brett Michaels maybe who is touring and just "had his cell phone stolen while onstage"I dont think he's perm A and I'd think it would say "in a band/group" for both he and Daryl, but ??
Boy George and CC are on tour too. My friend saw them in New York the other day and said he was a little off. Not sure that means anything or its him, but he was slurring.
I know George had surgery on his vocal cptds within the last few years (polyps). His voice had changed a LOT. Not sure if it's close to what it used to be.
Be careful of painkillers. If you start taking mild painkillers in your 40s then you run the risk of being a full-blown addict in your 50s. Doctors realize that people build up immunities so offer stronger and stronger doses/medications. There are guys in the twenties addicted to street drugs, and middle-class women in their 50s addicted to oxycotin, morphine, etc.
Just my thoughts...the following people are not "arguably" permanent A list. They are legends:
The Boss Rod Stewart Billy Joel Steven Tyler Elton John Perry Como
Bryan Adams is not arguably permanent A, neither is Daryl Hall (at least not without Oates). I doubt Meatloaf or Boy George would try to hide anything at this point. They've been a mess for most of their lives.
I think Brett Michaels might be on a lot of prescription meds resulting from his head injury a few years ago, but again, he seems so in-you-face about everything, I can't see him hiding anything.
Billy Idol and David Lee Roth are possibilities, but again, their images are based on being rebellious, so I doubt they'd feel the need to hide anything, either.
Well...That's what we all said about Prince, and look how wrong we all were. The fact is, prescription addictions are easier to hide than alcoholism or illegal drugs.
(FYI: I don't think it's the Boss because he's definitely permanent A+.)
The Boss
ReplyDeleteGeorge michael?
ReplyDeleteMeatloaf.
ReplyDeletePhil Collins
ReplyDeleteBilly Idol?
ReplyDeletegood one--he would be having access to painkillers given he can barely walk anymore.
ReplyDeleteHe doesn't even drink and just played back to back four hour concerts last week.
ReplyDeleteThe Boss
ReplyDeleteRod Stewart? But he is definitely permanently A list, not arguably.
ReplyDeleteOr...Bryan Adams?
ReplyDeleteJust an out of the blue thought.

Phil Collins or George Michael gets my vote.

Everyone mentioned in this thread can be considered at least A list without an argument, IMO.
ReplyDeleteA few others:
Sting
Morrissey
Lenny Kravitz
Jon Bon Jovi
The Boss @Mad?
ReplyDeleteYou're crazy.
*chords ;-p
ReplyDeleteI'd dispute Steven Tyler as being permanent A.
ReplyDeleteI like the Billy Joel guess upthread.
