Wow, if this is really Catherine Deneuve i am VERY pleasantly surprised, she didn't strike me as a very generous person, so apparently cold and distant. But, as they say appearance may be deceptive?
Anyway, there are others french actresees that might be considered " French Meryl Streep", Jeanne Moreau Sandrine Bonnair..
That's most Cesar nominations/wins. That's what I think the Streep reference means. And Huppert (sorry about the b's in the original post) is very involved in a number of French charities.
I want to be her, but it's not happening. I clearly recall Johnny Carson making an off-color joke about her having small breasts. As probably a tween, I was vicariously insulted for her.
Marion Cotillard?
ReplyDeleteFrench Girl is this a correct description of her?
ReplyDeleteCotillard is a bit young, isn't she? Maybe Catherine Deneuve?
ReplyDeleteyeah she fits much better--I thought she retired but she seems to work endlessly.

Either Isabelle Hubbert (most nominations) or Isabelle Adjani (most wins)

ReplyDelete.....Isabelle Huppert...and yes, she does strike me as the person that would such a thing.

Adjani has always struck me as being a bit of a pill. Must be someone who's been around a long time, otherwise how would she live?
ReplyDeleteOne more name to the mix (though I think others are more likely): Juliette Binoche.
ReplyDeleteAs well you should have been. Unlike the cookie-cutter sameness of young actresses today, there is only one Deneuve.
ReplyDeleteThose old Chanel campaigns - she was flawless.
Between Huppert, Adjani and Binoche, Binoche is the most politically active (although they all are to some extent).
ReplyDeleteFor some reason I think it's Huppert but I couldn't really say why.
Catherine Frot was in Marguerite, about the same type of character Streep plays in Forest Foster Jenkins. Frot has two Cesars and 10 noms.
ReplyDeleteNathalie Baye is often called the French answer to Meryl Streep.
