Back in the day this actor was A+ list. Heck, he has been dead for decades and he is probably still A+ list. An Academy Award winner/nominee but only when a lot of the people who hated him had already died. I’m trying to think of a more racist actor from back in the day and I can’t think of any. The guy made a ton of movies. Well over 200. That is a lot. Most of his movies had a lots of extras. Our actor was always a huge supporter of white power movements and anything that would keep African American people down. He directly funded a lot of these efforts, but managed to get the studios to also give them money. How? He would hire a lot of these white power people to be extras so they could pay their bills and locations would be places that were owned by these movements. They were usually out in the middle of nowhere and the studio would pay a fee to use the places. Plus, little pop up type stores would show up all run by the organizations and all charging huge markups. The cast and crew were stuck out there and forced to either drive a long way or buy these items. The fact that this guy is considered a hero drives me nuts. People love this guy and think he was the greatest. He was a racist a-hole and basically kept these hate groups funded for three decades practically all by himself. Apparently the studios turned a blind eye because the movies made money. No one would stand up to him. They did subtle things when they could which is why the whole Oscar thing happened so late in life.
John Wayne
His wives were Hispanic and obviously a contradiction. One of his descendents is a Tea Partier in oc and keeping the beliefs alive.
ReplyDeleteThat's a shame he was such a jerk... The Quiet Man is one of my favorite movies
ReplyDeleteThis is a great blind! Way better than bani baloney
ReplyDeleteWho's surprised? Not me.
ReplyDeleteI never liked him, never got his appeal, have never watched a John Wayne movie voluntarily.
ReplyDeleteNot even The Quiet Man.
KWU--I second that emotion. My parents worshiped at his feet. Every John Wayne movie that came out became a walk to Lourdes. The first JW film I was allowed to see was The High & The Mighty which was, I am sorry to say, a wonderful film with tons of famous people in it and a great music score. My parents were the farthest thing in the world from bigoted and if they were alive they would be stunned and appalled. We mere mortals have no idea what these men and women are REALLY like, do we? We didn't have Enty back in those days to set us straight. Long may you rule Big E!
ReplyDeleteSo true! I sometimes think I preferred not knowing, but that could only be true now if no one knew. I wouldn't want to be the only one who *didn't* know - but I don't think that's even possible anymore.
ReplyDeleteJohn Wayne was a wedding guest when an acquaintance of mine was married years ago. She danced with him, thought it was a wonderful experience and I'm sure it was. I hope she keeps that memory because the marriage turned out to be total crap. ;-)
I know it's fun to "play pretend" and all but does anyone here actually believe this crap. Like someone mentioned before here, we don't live with these people and we don't know them or their beliefs. John Wayne is dead and gone and unable to defend himself.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy what he left behind celluloid-wise and forget the rest.
What complete bollocks!
ReplyDeleteYou stupid leftwingers believe this kind of stuff only because it confirms your own bigotries.
John Wayne's life is a public record and has been for 80+ years. There is so much evidence to contradict this, it's not even remotely believable. Then again, the Saul Alinsky/communist wing of the democrat party just can't help themselves. They simply MUST continually smear all of their enemies, even after they've passed on. It's actually sad that so many leftwingers have to resort to post-mortem ad hominem attacks.
Now if you'd have said Bill and Hillary Clinton were racists, then I think you'd have been onto something... There is lots of evidence that this is true!!
The original blind had a lot of quotes from
ReplyDeleteWayne himself that can easily be researched so dead or not his words back the blind.
My grandfather always said this, and we balked and shushed him.
ReplyDeleteI believe this NOW. there have been too many folks saying this.
Black people have known he was a huge racist FOREVER. This is just news to the rest of you.
ReplyDeleteWhy did they re-name the airport in Santa Ana after him? That makes no sense if this is true.
ReplyDeleteIn a May 1971 interview with Playboy, John Wayne comes across as an outright racist and homophobe. In university I once had a button that read "John Wayne died for your sins" it was common knowledge Wayne was a racist jerk..unfortunately most people drank the hero koolaid.
ReplyDeleteJohn Wayne was one of the first major investors in Orange County, CA.
ReplyDeleteHe would buy up 1000's of acres of Orange Groves and then flip them to housing/commercial developers.
The John Wayne Airport in Orange County was built on land once owned by John Wayne.
Well he's long dead and unable to defend himself from your gossip accusations so now's the perfect time to suddenly get offended.
ReplyDeleteSorry, just because he'd dead doesn't mean he wasn't a racist. It's not difficult to find his interviews that prove this. Here's a news flash for those who seem to confused, you can be married to a POC and still be racist trash.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe this one. If he said dumb stuff in interviews, it's because he's an actor and people expecting actors to be intelligent or noble just because they have a platform are a little naive. It just means they got breaks and have star power. But I don't believe he was racist or part of white supremacist groups, or else he wouldn't have picked all Hispanic wives (who were truly Hispanic, not white people with Hispanic names or one Hispanic parent).
ReplyDeleteI don't see any actors as heroes, but rumors ripping a person about many years later without factual basis (that they can't even defend themselves against) isn't cool.
I think Hollywood wasn't kind to African Americans in general though, but Hollywood isn't kind to anyone. Like John Cusack said, Hollywood is a whorehouse.
You seriously believe John Wayne WASN'T a racist asshole? LOLOLOL Come on. From the time I was a kid I got seriously icky vibes from that dude. He es no bueno.
ReplyDeleteThis is so defamatory
ReplyDeleteMy grandfather who is black was one of John Wayne's assistants
John Wayne was a wonderful human being and treated my grandfather with respect and kindness
His children are all Mexicans
I hardly believe a white power person would be breeding Mexicans and Indians
Why are are people allowed to defame white people for being white? A lot of whites have struggled and came from countries where they were discriminated.
My grandmother was irish and my black grandfather said she suffered from more discrimination in Ireland by the British than he did in America
My black grandfather worked for him and John Wayne was NO racist
ReplyDeleteHe married dark Mexicans and Indians hardly a racist
never never liked the guy and never could understand why all my brothers thought him the hero.
ReplyDeleteAGREED.
ReplyDeleteThis is no secret to the objects of his hate.
Also....Jeff Bridges fucking shut Rooster Cogburn down. John Wayne was a hack.
You are a liar and you are not black.
ReplyDeleteThat was to Carolina. If you were black you would say you were, not "my black grandfather" over and over again.
