Early on in the nominating process, this organization which calls itself religious went all in on a candidate for President. This was their second attempt at trying to influence who becomes the next President. Just like in their first effort, their second was unsuccessful. Heck, it was a total bust. Despite basically paying for almost every expense through Super PACS and hard to track donations, the organization could not even get their candidate to register on the public's radar. To this day, even though it was this election cycle, you would be hard pressed to remember this man ran for President. And he was on the nationally televised debates too.
So, what to do? Instead of just propping up one candidate, the group has decided to go behind the scenes. It is what they do best. I don't think the candidate even has a clue they are doing what they are doing, but they are. First, they are funneling money into a Super PAC. Second, they are paying a tremendous amount of money to the person they first tried to install in office in the last cycle. She gets paid by the campaign already, but the organization is paying her hundreds of thousands of dollars each month so she can give her full-time efforts. They have also taken care of some recent family expenses. Not content to just have this person out there, they are also digging up dirt as only they can. Not on the candidates themselves, but the people who work for the campaign. Little stunts to get some organizing person in a state fired from their job. That sets back the whole process in that state. They also have talking heads who belong to their organization and they are giving talking points each day. This happens not only nationally, but also in local markets where the organization has members in the media. Spin things a little more towards their candidate. Ignore the others as much as you can. Tiny things that all add up. Coordinating all of this is a long time behind the scenes power guy who is the whip of the entire organization. Even the leader doesn't cross this guy. If you are just looking at one piece, you would never see it, but when you step back, you see it all working. Their whole purpose in all of this is to get more favorable legislation and tax breaks in the US, but to also get lower ranked appointees in the new government to get them recognized in other countries.

ReplyDeleteRub and tug time :)
ReplyDeleteMichelle Bachmann/Rick Santorum one of the teleevangelusts like the Falwells or Pat Robertson
ReplyDeleteJim Gilmore
ReplyDeleteI like *teleevangelusts* it stays and Im submitting it to Roget's Thesaurus
ReplyDeleteThe only "A" rating on godvoter.org is Duncan Hunter who last ran in 2008.
ReplyDeleteIn other news, there's a site called GodVoter and I've visited.

Hillary, oh dear.
ReplyDeleteI like where you are going! I too would think that considering the stuff they have done in the past.

ReplyDelete??
I think you got it, Kno. He heads the Free Congress Foundation, a conservative think tank that focuses on tax & economic issues, etc. He also took part in the "lower tier" GOP debates and is an occasional commentator on Fox News. The only thing I can't find is a tie to Scientology or some other "religion" (other than Methodists... although he and Hillary are both life-long Methodists. Hmmm...)
ReplyDeleteThis is interesting although Trump only gave $1k which is pretty much the equivalent of me dropping a buck or two in a donation bucket.
ReplyDeleteThis could be more than one group. How about George Soros?
ReplyDeleteOkay, I just stumbled down a rabbit hole...
ReplyDeleteGreta Van Susteren and her husband, John Coale, are well-known Scientologists. John used to head up Sarah's PAC. He also is friends with John McCain. However, he's also friends with Hillary Clinton and Martin O'Malley (who was the 3rd candidate in the Democratic primary races this election cycle.)
If this is Trump & Scientology, the previous cycle's candidate has to be Sarah Palin, which would explain her endorsement of Trump a few months back. The money Scientology paid out was the legal fees tied to Bristol's custody issues.
I need to get back to work but I'll be checking this out later tonight.
+1
ReplyDeleteAs corrupt as the day is long.
Like they're the only ones trying to buy the election!
ReplyDeleteThe big evangelical TV preachers are very involved in this. They aren't supposed to be talking politics either to keep their tax free status, but Kenneth Copeland puts on right wing David Barton on his show, telling people that they have to support these right wing candidates, John Hagee is even worse. He's constantly putting down gays and abortion, liberals. He's very political. Pat Robertson's law school is behind a lot of right wing legislation, Jay Sekulow, etc. Doesn't the IRS keep track of what they do with their donors money? I don't want money I give to go to these right wing nuts.
ReplyDeleteI will be trying to fit it into a conversation tomorrow for sure.
ReplyDeleteLDS (Mormons). The Romney family. The church has boo koo money onboard if they want to sponsor a candidate.
ReplyDeleteI hope it's not Gilmore. I met him once, and he was very nice and actually came across as very sincere for a politician.

ReplyDeleteI really, really doubt it is Scientology.
ReplyDeleteI spend a lot of time researching Scientology as an opponent of that cult (I comment frequently at Tony Ortega's blog and have contributed other work as well), and I've never seen credible evidence that they're significantly interested in Presidential politics.
They did support California's anti-gay Proposition 8, which was a big deal for them, but that resulted in some negative publicity that backfired on them (as usual). For one thing, their support for Prop 8 got Oscar winning screenwriter Paul Haggis to leave the cult, which led to Larry Wright's New Yorker article, which he then turned into a book and subsequently into an award-winning HBO documentary.
There are stories that Scientology cult leader David Miscavige, who spends a lot of time sucking up to Tom Cruise, at one point tried to egg on Cruise to run for President, figuring that if Schwarzenegger could get elected governor of California, then Scientology "tech" meant it would be easy to get Cruise elected President, since Cruise has all sorts of space alien-derived super powers. But I think such a discussion is at the level of a couple of 8-year-olds sitting in their tree house plotting to "take over the school."
I'm just taking some shots in the dark & have no idea who the organization is but I'll say Palin as the one supported last cycle, Huckabee as the one everyone forgot about.
ReplyDeleteThe Koch brothers have contributed more funds than both parties combined during this election. Guess they know that backing only one person can backfire, so they're hedging all of their bets. The only "religious" part that fits is they back right-wing candidates. But it's the last few sentences of this blind that fit them best, "Their whole purpose in all of this is to get more favorable legislation and tax breaks in the US, but to also get lower ranked appointees in the new government to get them recognized in other countries." The legislation is usually anti-environmentally friendly policy, and they want that world-wide. The other part that fits is that even the "party leader" doesn't cross them. Yikes. This is why people want money out of politics.

So true
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree the former female candidate is Palin, but I'm thinking the recent event were the medical treatment from her husbands accident
ReplyDeleteI don't think Sarah is receiving money from anyone.
ReplyDeleteSantorum rings a bell though.
Prove it. Otherwise, it is just a hateful attack that only reflects on you, not her.
ReplyDeleteA bot, since both comments are generic trash talk.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Sarah has always done it for free.
ReplyDeleteQuit giving them money then. The best and most effective way to use your money is to give it directly to someone in need, your hand to theirs.
ReplyDeleteMost people tie themselves in knots at the thought it would go to alcohol or drugs etc, etc, but they don't think twice about where it goes in a religious or charity organization
I keep bags of pop-top canned soup and fruit or applesauce in my car. If I see a homeless person, I stop and give it to them. They are so nice, it's like giving it directly to Jesus.
Greta has to live with that face for a trillion years? Gah!
ReplyDeleteIntriguing!
ReplyDeletePossibly Lincoln Chafee initially, and now Hillary?
ReplyDeleteThe Koch Bros are Libertarians, not Republicans. They have given massive amounts to Democrat causes, as well as Republican. People just don't look at FEC filings and use them as some sort of talking points. They fund stuff THEY care about vs. any particular political party. This sounds like the LDS vs. Scienos, but both fund a lot of political shit.
