After years of being the biggest supporter to a charitable organization and their spokesperson, this B+ list mostly movie actress married to an A+ list mostly movie actor dropped all of her support and her $2M annual contribution because they would not elect her as the head of their board. For the first time in a decade she was absent from their big annual event.
Jennifer Garner/Ben Affleck
If she wanted to be the head of a charity, she should have started her own.
ReplyDeleteSooo... Was she unhappy with how the charity was being run and thought, as head of the Board of Directors, that she could make a difference, or is this simply a case of sour grapes/bruised ego so she picked up her marbles and ran home?
ReplyDeleteHandling big donors (and one who is your spokesperson, to boot) is an art. Someone's head will roll.
ReplyDeleteA simple Google search shows she publicly supports 21 charities and another 22 causes. Probably not all about ego.
ReplyDeleteVery true, and $2M annually is not chicken scratch.
ReplyDeleteUh, shouldn't you reveal the name of the charity?
ReplyDeleteMaybe she knew the marriage was about the hit the fan and realized she needed to hold on to some money. Maybe this really happened but Enty made up a reason for it.
ReplyDeleteNope, but all tax breaks.
ReplyDeleteNewsflash: All major donors at charities are ego cases. The only ones that aren't are the anonymous ones who give you large annual fund donations every December, fulfill their multi-year pledge payments without being reminded, and remember you in their will. All the rest are in it for the social status and tax breaks.
ReplyDeleteAt least she helps out...which is more than can be said about several other celebrities, who only donate to a church owned by their mother.
ReplyDelete-I remember this..i can't think of the Charity right now though. It was the first time in many years she didn't attend their annual Gala & she hasn't gone since.
ReplyDelete-This is NOT 'Save The Children'... i do know that.
just to clarify, I don't know if Jen was trying to get elected as the Head of their Board or any of that part but I do recall that she stopped being the 'face' for them & didn't attend their Big Gala because she was disatisfied about how they were handling something..
ReplyDelete+1. It's the Taylor Swift argument. Sure, Taylor wraps up gifts for her fans and then delivers them to her homes. Taylor holds a 1989 listening party at her house and bakes goodies to handout. Nice things, except she records it all and broadcasts it everywhere on the planet. Major pats on the back. The dumb this is that she doesn't need to. People will be posting pictures and fawning all over her, even if she didn't plaster her 'kindness' all over the internet. Steve Buscemi helping out secretively on 9/11 was a true kindness.
ReplyDeleteIt's all about image and how things appear with her.

ReplyDelete^^ this!
ReplyDeleteThe notion that actors are better people than us, is ludicrous. They are usually worse.
If she's donating that much, I can see her wanting to have influence on its direction. It sounds like the person who wanted to be head in her stead has an ego, willing to lose money so they have the power or prestige instead (and maybe get their hand into the cookie jar and line their own pockets- there is a lot of fraud in these charities).
ReplyDeleteAnd her being in charge probably would have brought in LOTS more donations because of the publicity. Sometimes these groups need to think of the bigger picture to help those they are raising money.
Give it a rest Damon.
ReplyDeleteI think it's St. Jude's. I remember when I was living in the hospital for months 2015-2016 I was bored out of my mind when done for the day, & I was reading a puff piece ( I believe that's the term they use, no?! Hehe ) that stated how they not only get a lot of " support " , but there two biggest mouthpieces are Jennifer squared, ( Aniston, & Garner ). If so then that's just plain wrong. These kids, & families life's are truly changed from this charity, & really hope she didn't leave them high, & dry
