Blind Item #10

I think this A list mostly movie actress hates doing press. For weeks on end she has to answer why no one ever wants to work with her. She always has an excuse, but no one ever wants to work with her twice. She should never have given up the tv gig because her movies keep bombing and she is going to want to get back on those bridges she has burned. Sounds a lot like Katherine Heigl, but think recent and with more tv gigs to her credit and a lot of comedy.

  7. All this time I've been thinking her body got smaller. I guess her head got bigger and just made her body appear smaller.

  8. I've always thought there was more to the story when Gilmore girls didn't ask her back even for a cameo

    LOL!
Someone's in my office, I have my browser in compact view, I clicked through to this page and it scrolled down to only this comment.
I actually laughed out loud, which is sort of unfortunate - but funny!
Before I even read the item I saw Tub of Goo.
    Well played, Sandybrook.

Spy was a huge hit & she works with paul feig all the time. so she has an answer.

  15. Melissa McCarthy brought me back to the movie theaters when no other actor could. Not even Daniel Craig. It is so easy to download films or wait until they become available online. Why pay $13 a ticket (and more) even with Senior prices when for less than that you have access to Netflix et al. She is not only screamingly funny, but incredibly talented. Her timing is the best in the business. Not liked? By whom? Half-rate, mediocre or totally non-talented bimbos? I like to call them The Couch Casting Crowd. She is in one hit after another. The American people love her and can't get enough of her films. She's wasted on TV. She will be around decades after the big names of today are long forgotten. Leave this lady alone!

Tina Fey. Her last movie bombed and Sisters didn't do that well.

  18. Tammy was unbearable but Spy was surprisingly funny.

Tammy sucked because of Sarandon. OMG was she TERRIBLE. Plus it wasn't funny. Hate films that are marketed as comedies but aren't. liars.

  21. Sisters came out against Star Wars. It had a $30 million dollar budget & made $105 million worldwide. The studio made $75 million off of that movie, so I'm sure they're happy with it. And other people work with Tina, like Amy Poheler & people on shows she produces & writes like Kimmy Schmidt.

I'm guessing this is about Melissa McCarthy, but Paul Feig seems to love working with her so the part about people not wanting to work with her isn't right.

I agree- she is EXTREMELY talented with excellent timing. I will go see anything she is in.
Ironic. The same people who are fat shaming her in this comment thread are tsk tsking others on any given day for similar offences.
And so my opinion of the CDAN Crowd stands- jealous, petty and rude bitches

  23. SO wrong about McCarthy. First of all, she's worked with the same people several times. Second of all, she and her husband write and produce a lot of her stuff. Third, her movies don't bomb. Like, ever.

  25. One of Melissa's "people" used to live next door to me. I had no idea who she worked for until months later. What I can say is that she was very loyal to Melissa and Melissa was very good to her. She had worked for many A and A+ list celebs and was very much in demand but would always work for Melissa. If Melissa was such a nightmare, I would be shocked.

Yeah, Spy only made $230 million off a $65 million budget. What a bomb!

Hello, OKay. Could you please prove your statements that 1) her movies never bomb 2) she works with the same people multiple times

  28. Spy, The Heat, and Identity Thief all did well. Also, Melissa McCarthy has only had one well-known tv gig right?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Not OKay4:04 AM

I'm not OKay, but I think I can answer for you. I'll start with your second question.

Allison Janey has worked with Melissa on Spy & Tammy.

Rose Byrne has worked with her in Bridesmaids & Spy.

Kristen Wigg worked with her on Bridesmaids & is in the new Ghostbusters with her.

And Paul Feig has directed her in multiple movies. Spy, The Heat, & the new Ghostbusters.

So several people have worked with her more than once. Now your first question about her movies bombing. I think people use the term "bomb" wrong on here. Her movies don't lose money. St. Vincent was never supposed to be a giant hit, it was an indie movie made for peanuts & made $54.8 million worldwide.

I'll leave out the hits of hers that she wasn't one of the two leads in like Bridesmaids. She was in the Hangover 3, but that was a cameo. Then you've got a bunch of movies from early in her career where she's like the best friend in a romantic comedy. There's like a J-Lo one & a Josh Dumel/Katherine Heigel movie. The movies that she is the clear star of are Identity Thief, Spy, & she got top billing with Sandra Bullick in The Heat. I already talked about St. Vincent, so the numbers for the other 3 are $174 million worldwide for Identity Thief, $229 million for The Heat, & $235 million for Spy. All those movies don't have super high budgets either so they're extremely profitable for movie studios. If she does have any bombs it's in movies she wasn't the lead of. Most of those are early ones when she wasn't real famous, or movies where she's the best friend of one of the leads. The movies she's lead of have all made money.

That's way more info then you were looking for!

I was not a fan of Melissa at first, but she was excellent in St. Vincent and Spy.

Tammy was awful. I like her much better when she shows range and isn't just trashy. I hope to see her in more diverse roles.
