This former B+ list mostly television actor who recently had a big swing and miss in his return to television doesn't seem to be making it while in the closet, so he has started to open up more and actually went to lunch in broad daylight, surrounded by paps with his boyfriend.
Chase Crawford
ReplyDeletehope he comes out, I still dont understand why is still such a stigma for actors to come out, unless u are a big action star, but these Glee actors and broadway actors, I dont get it.
ReplyDeleteMatthew Perry? He used to be A list though.

ReplyDeleteIt has nothing to do with stigma and everything to do with 1) maintaining suspension of belief, esp for women (I understand this since I am a woman, but dont agree with enforcing that mindset) - great example, Dicaprio's blonde parade (he's gay) and 2) if you thought the US/UK was homophobic, try thinking of releasing a mainstream international movie like Star Wars with a gay lead or even co-lead. I think a newspaper did an article on this, saying if just 1 in 10 people that paid to see Stars Wars boycotted Stars Wars due to a openly gay cast member, it would mean a loss of $200 million. People think this is a social thing, a stigma about being gay, but it has NOTHING to do with that, and EVERYTHING to do with $$$.
Hollywood is a business, and they eliminate all potential 'risks' aka variables like an actor being gay to make as much money as possible. The world is still homophobic. Outside the US/UK, EXTREMELY. And most of a movie's money these days comes from abroad.
It isn't ok, but it's the real reason. Look at Taylor Swift. Happiest with gf Kloss but needs to play it straight and kill those 'rumors' to still be sellable.
and the reason the lesser stars, like small TV and Broadway stay closeted, is because they THINK if they play it straight, they'll have a better chance at becoming more famous and successful. Plus, they won't get more diversity in their roles.
ReplyDeleteI saw a pic of him with his "gf" though too, so idk how much he could be coming out, he's still going to things with her.
ReplyDeleteWho says a atraight woman can't drool over a gay man? I've done it. So what?
ReplyDeleteDo these ppl think they have a shot & that's why it bothers them? Well, they don't. So drool & move on.
Geesh.

ReplyDeleteOTOH, "losing" $200 million means you made $2 billion to begin with. So, there's a whole lot of greed going on and the destruction of people's psyches for relative peanuts, no?

ReplyDeleteI understand what your saying because I find a lot of gay men attractive but, viewers will always say 'he's gay' and how can a gay man relate to straight mens feelings towards women' etc

ReplyDeleteWho cares if all you're gonna do is drool??? :-)
ReplyDeletelook at how successfully Dougie Howser pulled it off. I know I should remember his real name but he'll always be dougie howser to me.
ReplyDeleteThe exception is if you have an 'edgy' persona like say, Rhianna or miley or cara, then you can be 'bi' and no one cares because it adds to your image.
