The 80's
In this horror remake of a decades earlier film, the lead actor who is still A- was stuck in a pickle. He was juggling a real life romance with his still B+ list mostly movie actress co-star and another co-star in the movie he has a sex scene with. When the B+ lister found out, he dumped the other actress and lived happily ever after for a few more years with the B+ lister.
Jeff Goldblum/Geena Davis/The Fly
Dumped Laura Dean? Wow she's had some shi##y luck w/ guys.
ReplyDeleteI can't muster up any pity for Laura Dern. Ben Harper was married when they got together. She and his wife were even pregnant at the same time.
ReplyDeleteLook at Jeff Goldblum banging all those chicks despite being ..Jeff Goldblum.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone else's crazy detector go off when they hear Derns name? She's done some impressive work but idk..I wouldn't try crossing her.
I'd still do Goldblum. I agree about Dern, though.
ReplyDeleteHe has a weird nerd hot thing. Loved him on SNL with Will Ferrell...time to YouTube it. ☺
ReplyDeleteThanks for reminding me...totally forgot.
ReplyDeleteI've also always found Goldblum oddly bangable.
ReplyDeleteReally? I'll admit, I have some pretty funky taste ...but it stops at the Goldblum.
ReplyDeleteI've never really looked up any past articles on Derns personal life- if there are any.
Patricia Arquette directed(?) a documentary and she was interviewed. She seemed pleasant but she also was very odd. Like she was going for normal but was white-knuckling it
Whoopsie ..that was my opinion and not Reese's
ReplyDeleteYou too?
ReplyDeleteWho knew? I have learned that JG is a desirable actor today. Makes me sitting here, doing absolutely nothing, a little more meaningful.
Well, her father's not a paragon of normalcy, so there's that.
ReplyDeleteIs she dating Common now? Bit of side-eye happening there.
Reese would never say whoopsie unless she hadn't stabbed you hard enough.
ReplyDeleteHa!
ReplyDeleteMaybe if I dawdle long enough, I'll absorb an interesting fact.
I was young when this came out- too young to "view it" but eventually did and it's one of my faves. Agree that soundtrack is awesome and Jason Patric was everything!
ReplyDeleteIt's the nose. Love a prominent nose on a man.
ReplyDeleteGeena had a small stint on Family Ties before The Fly. After TF, she would start hitting her stride, Beetlejuice, The Accidental Tourist, Thelma & Louise, etc.
ReplyDeleteGoldblum from the neck down - in the 80's - was absolutely bangable. What a body!
ReplyDeleteJason Patric was just another cool guy ruined by Julia Roberts along with Benjamin Bratt, Keifer Sutherland and Lyle Lovett.
ReplyDeleteI will *never* understand why Laura Dern was a thing. To me, she was the Tater-Head Willis of the 80's. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
ReplyDeleteI second that.
ReplyDeleteIf I had the chance to do both Geena Davis and Laura Dern I would definitely go for that.
ReplyDeleteI loved Goldblum during his brief time on Law and Order Criminal Intent. He was great in Indeoendence Day too. Sexy as hell.
ReplyDeleteHey! Lurker here just piping in to say the actress Jeff Goldblum had a sex scene with in The Fly was Joy Boushel. Remember the trampy bar slut he tries to put into the morph pod, leading to Geena Davis catching them and telling her "Be very afraid!"
ReplyDeleteGoldblum must have had a blast filming that scene! He is a player for sure and still looks great.
Haven't heard much about Laura Dern is the last 15 years, but I have heard that Jeff is "strange" and "nosy" to work with. He also stares at the female crew's bums without trying to hide it at all.
ReplyDeleteLaura Dern nowhere in the pic in 1986.
ReplyDeleteThere was a gal he was screwing in the movie.
He won her in the arm wrestling contest.
That, I think, is the costar he dropped.
For Ms Davis.
I feel like I'm ancient compared to most ppl who comment here, lol.
ReplyDeleteWhen I think early Goldblum I'm thinking of Death Wish, Buckaroo Bonzai, The Big Chill...all before The Fly. Geena Davis, how come no one ever seems to remember her sitcom,Sara??
Bill Maher, Alfre Woodard, Bronson Pinchot, Martin Lawrence were all on it, and it was actually pretty good, just a bad time slot, from what I remember. Rare show for the 80s in that it had gay main characters. Also, Tootsie & Fletch both came before her bigger roles, Beetlejuice & Earth Girls Are Easy. Laura Dern is a really good actress, she had a lot of good roles, back in the day. Wild At Heart, Rambling Rose, Fat Man & Little Boy, Mask, Blue Velvet...my favorite roles of hers were Bastard Out Of Carolina, and The Baby Dance, with Stockard Channing. It wasn't that great of a movie, but the both were great in it.
I made my (younger) boyfriend watch the 1978 Invasion of the Body Snatchers to see Jeff Goldblum and Donald Sutherland in their glory days. I remember Sara too, but just barely. I remember thinking "oh that rpretty girl from Tootsie got a show!"
ReplyDeleteMet JG at an event two years ago.. The man def has swag and looks great!!
